  1. No, this is the old original Scion with the magnesium body. seems nice, but like I said, the flipping switch isn't really a flipping switch, I can't imagine its broken to where it works this way perfectly, and I haven't been able to find an owner's manual online. I don't like it enough to fish over the Matrix IIs that I use for just about everything, and I haven't found a reel reason to switch to anything newer in fresh water.
  2. Didn't I see KVD asking about braid vs flouro for his MH setup recently?
  3. Anyone still using this reel? Question about the flipping switch, does it work differently (essentially like a reengage button) than a standard flipping switch? I just got my hands on one, anyone want it? I think I'll stick to my Matrix IIs.
  4. 8 and 10 lb mono on spinning, baitcasters 10-20 (mostly 12 and 15) mono for nearly everything, 50 braid in heavy cover sometimes, and 65 braid for frogs. I can't deal with not trusting FC knot strength and retying all the time.
  5. I hear they are changing the name of the game from Simon says to KVD says...
  6. Sure, why not...
  7. I find I use more bass lures in the salt than salt lures on bass, but I'll do it both ways. I've only had 1 fish ask me if the lure was "technique specific" before biting it...
  8. There are other colors?!
  9. The Potomac for the most part doesn't lend itself to finesse fishing, particularly while tournament fishing. I find the fish there chew, if you are on them they'll bite. a 5" senko and a 3/16-5/16 t rigged creature are the smallest thing I usually find myself reaching for. Lipless, cranks and spinnerbaits are usually required in the arsenal as are frogs, and punching baits, depending on the time of the year.(oh and bring at least one jerkbait and popper). I live in Waldorf for those that are familiar with the area, and the local ponds and lakes are loaded with bass (I won't say how big, cause you wouldn't believe me anyway) and in those finesse baits do work best a lot of the time. Let me know if you ever want to go out and compare notes.
  10. The guppy version of that catches me a lot of fish. I like bouncing it on hard bottom in like 4-8 ft of water in all but the very coldest times.
  11. When its cold and tough, I'm only tying on: Suspending jerk bait Blade bait slim senko type thing.
  12. Fish don't know how much you paid for a lure, as far as hardbaits go, if you are fishing even a few times a week, you will loose or break it in a matter of a season or two. Here's a few of the "cheap" lures that work for me. Bandit 100 and 200 (and the footloose, but shhhhh....) Fat free shads (not the shallow one) KVD 1.0 and 1.5 Red Eye Shad CC Super spot Pop R (I take a file to it, and tie some feathers on it and tell it its a rico) Zara spook Shad Rap Husky jerk Long A Redfin Trak down minnow H2Os (except the lipless, don't really like it) The BPS silver buddy thing (I forget the name) Lew's speed minnow ( I think they call it XTS or something like that now) Dick's $2 Strike King buzzbait Scum frog/Trophy frog Spinnerbaits: get some 3/8 and 1/2 doesn't matter which, change the blades to Gold 4 1/2 willow/2 colorado, Skirt that makes you happy (fish don't care) and throw it until only 1/2 of it comes back, repeat.
  13. What is on WFN that isn't funny....
  14. Do I know anything about the lake and/or time of year?, hell 4 lures fit in a 3600.
  15. I find I catch more fish if I don't fish slow, also in cold water fish tend to stack up, so once you find them, you can catch a few. Once they won't hit a spinnerbait and crankbait consistently, I'll switch to lipless, finesse jig, chatter, jerk, and blade in that order. I'm sure you could dig a hole in the ice and catch them with a blade. I find a swift but short jerk works best, most bites occur as the lure stops, or begins to flutter down.
  16. No, no, finesse jigs don't catch big fish, and have flimsy unsuitable hooks. Everybody knows that.
  17. Anywhere i have 2+ feet of open water, I approach fishing from shore the same as fishing from a boat, the only difference is you can't move the boat...
  18. They should rename the site Bass Community College....
  19. Asking bass guys about drag settings is like.......well,... asking bass guys about drag settings. There are several good salt water sites where guys with experience fighting large fish with light tackle dwell. I'm just saying....
  20. Not one of the choices, but I own 3 dedicated crankbait rods, and 2 others that I sometimes use for crankbaits and other baits.
  21. The guy is confused, and the advice is "read more" nope, fish more...And color, match the forage in clearish water, a bit of white or chart. in the murk, Its not that hard K.I.S.S. Fish a few baits and become familiar with them and gain confidence. Oh and just like chess, try to get on the water with better more experienced anglers, it will accelerate the learning curve.
  22. Senkos should do well, I've done well with topwater (torpedos and poppers) and crankbaits there as well, for what its worth, Staten Island has better fishing. NJ is pretty good too and not too far. If you can answer the riddle, I'll point you to some hot spots; -What does the Coast Guard call the P-100?...
