Its always the same thing, Large black coffee (no sugar), bacon egg and cheese on a plain bagel, Wawa Italian Sub, Entenmann's Pop 'ems, Cheetos (or salt and vinegar chips), 16 oz Coke, large orange Gatorade, Large Deer Park H2O. If I'm still hungry I carry a couple of Trail Mix packs...

Bass don't really fight much, in open water 6 or even 4 lb mono will have even a big fish to the boat after 2 or 3 runs, the issue is the cover or structure cutting your line, or a fish burying in some thick grass, or loosing lures due to hangups. I find myself using a med spinning reel with 8 lb mono, and a baitcaster with 12lb mono most of the time. Conditions will dictate heavier mono or braid for heavy cover or slop of course. I equate it to golf, your sand wedge may be your favorite club, but you wouldn't Tee off or putt with it, same here. Oh, and 20 lb braid isn't light or finesse just because its on a 1000 reel and a med rod.

Its a slot limit based on the regulations. All redfish over 27" have to be released. Back when they had the FLW Striped Bass Series they had a 34" max, but it was due to the keep-alive livewell limitations.

Use a light wire jig with 12-15 mono and palomar knot, have needlenose handy to bend hook back, or T-rig plastic, or Lipless, or jerkbait, or crankbait, or slow roll spinnerbait, or...

I know I'll be in the minority here, but coming from a varied background of all sorts of fresh and saltwater fishing, I've never subscribed to the whole pattern thing. Fish will seek out comfort and protection, and at times sex and food. The factors and conditions that trigger these behaviors as well as their intensity and duration are intertwined and varied, depending on several interactions. There is the pattern, as far as looking for the log with three strands of milfoil nearby in 3.3 feet of water, I'm not having none of that. Besides, with today's electronics, bass fishing is resembling saltwater fishing more and more every year.

They catch, I like the flat john thing, runs true, you can really burn it, and it casts a mile.

I saw that too, and its a problem, but I'm more concerned with how shinny everything is...

I like the 10 and 12. They catch fish, the only drawback is they don't cast well. Its still my really cold water go to jerkbait. (except for this one rogue)

Maybe I'll be able to give my old Bagley's a well deserved rest.

Those are all good color choices. I like the gold black back RES, and a Sexy looking CC Super Spot which crushes in the spring. Where in MD are you? I find myself throwing the same 4 lures a lot.

Bigger than a pond, smaller than a reservoir often gets the "fishing sucks" or "hard to fish" label (If you keep seeing a lot of the same well worn bass boats, don't believe it) nothing to do but hunker down and learn the water if you know they are in there, no short cut here...

I've got a couple of lakes I fish that have aquarium clear water. After going through all the finesse lure light tackle combinations, I've settled on the opposite approach. I use 12 lb green mono, natural colored baits, and turn the handle faster than humanly possible, also the advantage of fishing during low light and or windy conditions is more pronounced I've found. Pitching a slim senko, and a small swimjig during tougher sunnier middays will catch a few. If you have grass, fish it hard. A rico early and late when calm, barely splishing has caught me some nice ones too. and using the "trick" in trick worm is my #1 catcher...

Thanks, we're lucky we get to fish the ocean off NY and the Chesseapeake Bay. The last few years has seen some very large fish, I'm convinced the record will be broken again in the next several years.
