  1. What is stronger than Motrin?
  2. Easy piecey. Depending on your preference, find one or more of the following residents; an elderly couple with a wheat field for a lawn, an unemployed stoner, a guy with an unreliable car, or a lonely divorced cougar.
  3. FORMERCIALSAIDICANDOTHATBUTICAN'TUNLASHTHISSTUPID N C I L E I H P T !
  4. X2. Some guys can make a project out of taking a tick...
  5. Sure, there are things you can do to reduce the chances of fish jumping, and throwing hooks, but depending on how they are hooked, sometimes its going to happen no matter what, and sometimes its not going to happen no matter what. The right rod/line combination, sharp hooks, and keeping even pressure will maximize success. I find when a fish jumps facing the direction of pull, is when most Oh $#!t! moments happen. You want to change that angle, and maintain slight pressure without sudden yanks. The moments the fish is out of the water is the critical time. Sounds like a lot, but it becomes second nature after a while.
  6. If I feel a particular CB has the action they're on, then I'll use different diameter line, in combination with rod position to fine tune depth. If I'm working it out, I'll use the same setup (usually 10 or 12 lb mono) with different lures with different diving depths. But both can work great (or not).
  7. x4. When you mostly fish a jig, what kind of jig are you mostly using?...
  8. Yeah, I don't get the hype. Big Game for everything but frogs here.
  9. A few years ago I had the chance to fish a fairly clear lake almost on a daily basis throughout the winter, and it really changed my thinking, and approach to "cold water lethargic fish" What I witnessed first hand, in high thirty to low forty degree water, was not fish slugging along, uninterested in lures, in a cold blooded induced metabolic slow down, but highly active fish, darting along, aggressively following and chasing lures, but reluctant to commit to these lures. What ultimately caused these fish to commit (usually) was an aggressive action followed by a pause or reduced action. Which I think validates the effectiveness of jerkbaits, traps and blades. Once I started fishing this way instead of fishing finesse plastics, hair jigs and the like, I started actually enjoying fishing in cold months. The other thing I noticed, is that stable or rising water temp, made for better fishing (again usually). Your milage may vary.
  10. I don't know what bass "know or care about". But I'm pretty sure that any aquatic creature which faces a habitat boundary, which potentially holds dangers and/or forage will have evolved a way of detecting and using this boundary, or it would be a fossil.
  11. What latitude is this lake on? The reason I ask, is because you've got quite a bit of deep water compared to shallow spawning areas, should be pretty easy to identify the pre-spawn migration, and eliminate a lot of water, and predict the summer pattern with that info.
  12. LMB guys love to complicate things. Why are we guessing? The truth is they could be anywhere. You've spent all this $ on fancy FFs, run around for 30 minutes (or more) zig zagging along, mark the place(s) you see fish, and then go catch them. Its how its always been done in the salt. Or are we waiting for one of the pros to name the "technique".
  13. Same here, I like to be right at zero, but if I have to write a small check, I'm good. I really don't like to see a refund, I guess if I was in the "tax credits" bracket I'd be circling stuff on the BPS catalog too.. ps: Did anyone see the typo on the $tella$' prices on the Cabela's catalog, cheaper than Sustains...
  14. I'm always surprised when I hear folks say they like a big refund, or worse, they think its found money.
  15. I've never caught a lot of fish before catching the first fish...
  16. None, I don't lend the Government money.
  17. What he said. ^ , just move the Hopkins to the top. I use a single hook with an outer barb and no dressing, but that's just what I'm used to from the salt.
  18. "nomenclature is the haven of the incapable" The whole primary/secondary thing is relative to each other, in some cases there will be 2 or more points, (and sometimes only one), usually moving inshore, or further into a creek or cove. Don't worry about that. The fish will be somewhere. Find them with the electronics, and then go to town. If you are into "patterns" (I'm not) if fish are relating to a certain structure in respect to the steepness of the structure (lines close together) you should be able to find some in similar bottom. If you follow your upper red mark to the right to where it meets the 7 ft mark, I'd bet you'll find some there most of the time. Its not unlike shallow cover, look for areas that are different than the surrounding water, sometimes, just a slight difference will be the ticket.
  19. Next to live bait, there is nothing that will load the cooler (or livewell if you prefer) faster than trolling. It comes naturally to walleye, salmon and saltwater guys, while some who've only LMB may seem it as foreign or boring, it requires as much if not more skill and attention to detail than casting and retrieving (we need a catchy term for that).
  20. That's Ted Williams. Young guys! I tell ya. Try this one...
  21. Depends of what I'm trying to do. For spitting, a Rico, Yellow Magic, Iovino (or the Michaels that aren't allowed out of the Plano box) For popping or blooping or gurgling, I stick with the old Pop'Rs (the new ones are ok but not the same) For walking and acting a fool, a G-Splah or Chug bug. I find that when a subtle presentation is required, the rod/line and bait selection becomes more critical. When they are turned on to a top water bite, its just a matter of making some noise and figuring out what they want. I find cadence sometimes steady, sometimes erratic can make a big difference. I have a couple of songs in my head, which helps to recreate the action rather than remember what I was doing, which I'm horrible at.
  22. Yes, but I don't stuff mine.
  23. Bone, black, or match the hatch. The end.
