  1. Depends on the size of the spinnerbait, and how I'm fishing it. MH fast (leaning to moderate) usually, but since that means different things, I go by feel. If I'm steady rolling, I like the rod to load up a bit, and for the tip to clearly show the blade action, so a little softer, when burning a fast-xfast, a bit heavier, but again I go by feel.
  2. 15 lb Big Game and palomar return me almost 100% of the cranks and lipless I can't shake free, and as a bonus, sometimes with a branch bearing gifts...
  3. Those sworming up side down spinnerbait things, maybe I just didn't give them a fair chance. Funny thing is I have total confidence on spinnerbaits, swim jigs, and swim jigs with a willow blade on the hook, and chatters, go figure...
  4. Pack of Trick worms (or speed worm) Pack of Ultra Vibe craws KVD 1.5 (or Xcalibur 100 for $2.99 from Dick's or Academy's version) Fat free crank ( or bandit 200 or 300) 1/4 oz tandem (colorado/willow) spinnerbait 3/8 Mann's classic spinnerbait Black buzzbait Pop-R Arkie or brush head jigs (1/4-1/2) Cordell Super spot XPS Jerkbait Waveworm Tiki Sticks 1/0-3/0 worm hooks worm weights bobber stoppers Right about $50, and if you can't catch them with that, take up golf...
  5. That will work. We cook them a bunch of ways. Different fish lend themselves to different recipes. Grilled, broiled, fried, steamed, its all good.
  6. Fishing is fishing, Sure some things will vary depending on species and conditions, but a lot of what one learns on the water translates. I find a lot of LMB guys make the mistake of thinking their thing is so different. Just look how shocked some were that an umbrella would catch, or how "new" finding fish with electronics in deep water, and catching them is to some. As far as birds, I know of several large lakes in VA and NC, where gulls will show the way to bait, and fish, so yeah, while not as common as in the ocean, it does happen. Didn't some guy win a tournament going to birds recently?
  7. x2 on these baits, I like forage(ish) colored baits in clear water. Bandit 100, and a 1/4 oz Mann's or Booyah SB (maybe pinch a sinker to the hook shaft) should do. Use the wind, don't fight it...
  8. Yeah, and now Kmart-Sears are done, not JC Penney done, but done none the less...
  9. Matching the rod to line to hook, (and in your case also leader) is important. If you want to keep everything the same, get rid of the flouro, and get some 15 lb (or even 12 lb) Big Game or Ande (No matter what you've read, the fish don't care), tie an Alberto (still owes me money) to join braid to leader, and a palomar at lure. Problem solved.
  10. If you are abducted in the middle of the night by Special Forces (in civilian attire) and flown to GITMO, never to be heard of again, ask yourself, was it worth it?...
  11. 5' 11 3/4" Is Match.com® speak for 5' 7", so 3 lbs...
  12. So if you are a Wall street guy who makes that same $100 in minutes, sometimes seconds, the expectation should be less? That's terrible logic. How do ya'll feed the Monkey on $200 a day?...
  13. LMB guys over thinking fishing? Next you'll tell me the Sun will be up in the AM... I think if you need to label your cranks, you have too many and aren't familiar with them, not a recipe for success, but to each his own.
  14. No, no football, keep it light, I'd do 1/4 or 5/16 with an Arkie or brush head, and a trailer that will flutter on the fall and swim when you pull it. This time of year, you'll be better off keeping the jig moving, rather than slow hopping it. A finesse or swim jig are also great choices.
  15. I cup my hands to my nose and sniff my hands, and with a childish grin say "smell my hands", at which my wife just shakes her head, and smiles, then when she's not paying attention, i'll rub my thumb on the back of her neck and say "yeah, that good".
  16. The only time I ever go near flouro is when we are fishing crazy clear water for some snappers, and tuna, even then its the exception, and only as a leader. Buddy built a daisy chain with 50 lb flouro, and I had to leader this thing in with it. I was conflicted between being really careful and not loosing it, and snapping it as a lesson...
  17. "I read on the Interweb that its the best" is not limited to fishing, it happens in all sports (and other things as well) We see it with a bunch of cycling accessories. But cluele$$ newbie$ i$ where it'$ at, so,.... I have what I call the baseball rule. I tell you what the deal is twice, after the third time, I'll agree with whatever nonsense you've read, and ring you up.
  18. I like the chatter when the water is a bit colder, or very stained to muddy, or to show them something different. In stained, 50+ degrees, I tend to favor a spinnerbait, but I let the fish tell me what they want. I find a chatter to be a hybrid of a spinnerbait and a Lipless crank, and sometimes a jig.
  19. How do you know he went anywhere? LMBs won't travel far unless the habitat becomes lacking in some way. And " the population has been increasing", after "we put them in there" is priceless....
  20. 6' casting, 5'9" spinning. I too like a short BC rod for topwater (poppers), and close quarters pitching spinnerbaits and squarebills. (different actions of course). But most of the time I have a 6'8" to 7' rod in my hand.
