  1. Eagle claw 254. I use the clear safety plastic sleeve that came on the hooks of some of DSGs spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, and slice them with a razor blade to make plastic doughnuts. works great, never had one fall off.
  2. Silly stuff. kinda like tennis scoring, numbers get smaller as hooks get larger until you get to 1, then you skip 0, and go to 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 etc, and now the numbers and the hooks get larger together. To make matters worse, there is no standard, so 2 hooks labeled the same size can be different sizes, sometimes significantly.
  3. Black buzzbaits don't catch fish... Oh, I never fish a buzzbait without a trailer.
  4. I don't disagree with that, but barring some unnatural condition(s) there will be lots more smaller fish.
  5. Why is it always my copper shad LC RCs though!!! I expect my baits to fail, its like a badge of honor. Crankbaits usually last 1-3 seasons, sometimes less. specially around rocks or docks. I don't expect them to be replaced.
  6. This ^. Catching larger fish is a matter of finding larger fish, which is more difficult not because they are smarter, or have seen lots of lures, or have grown weary. Its more difficult because there are fewer of them. Sure bass behave differently as they grow, but so do most species. All that info is out there.
  7. Photoshopped... That's some fish. I don't think there are too many bigger swimming in NY. I got one just under 9 in the Catskills a while back, and it didn't look nearly that big. Are you sure that's a bass and not a bowling bag...
  8. Yeah, I'd go shopping for a new seat. "taste it its poison".... priceless.
  9. Its almost time for another demerit point... -A priest knows one of his altar boys is a big boxing fan, so when one of his parishioners offers him a pair of tickets to an upcoming fight, he eagerly accepts them. Once there both are delighted by the fact that they are ring side. As the first undercard is about to begin, one of the fighters kneels facing the corner directly above them and crosses himself. The altar boy asks "Father, what does it mean when he does that?". The priest responds "Not a d**n thing if he can't fight"...
  10. Do you have similar feelings or issues with other aspects of life?
  11. I don't see how answering no, leads to a need for an answer to the second question. I guess I could accidentally enter a qualifying tournnament, and win it before realizing my mistake?...
  12. I was all ready to try it until the "increases the pleasure of the fight" thing. Funny stuff.
  13. Hasn't happened, usually salt will cause a reel to degrade but still function, at which point its not used when $ is on the line, but to answer your question, I'd either hand line it Cuban style, and failing that I'd have to go back out and catch a bigger one. We don't pay for tackle, so its easier than babying it. Like I said, don't try this at home...
  14. I clean and lube the worm gear every couple of months, clean an lube whole reel every season or 2 during the winter. I use the same reel for everything and have about 20, so I can go almost a decade in between cleaning a particular one. In the salt, we abuse until failure. (don't try this at home we are professionals)...
  15. The square of the sum of the nonsense is proportional to the square of the time spent on the InterWeb minus the square of the time not spent fishing...
  16. Big bass eat small pickerel, big pickerel eat small bass, they are both fun to catch, so its all good...
  17. Some folks are just better at competing, it has nothing to do with fishing. Coaches and sport psychologists have known this for a long time, and there is a lot of cutting edge research being done by the neuro folks. We see it all the time, someone who is clearly talented, but can't get over the hump, and others who are maybe not the best, but find a way to win, of course every so often, we get "that" guy (or gal) that is a superior at both, and we just awe, the sport is really irrelevant.
  18. Finding fish is most of the equation, figuring out how to catch them is usually not that hard part, although you'd never know it by some things one reads. lures are tools, pick the right one once you get to the job site, sometimes its the mitre saw, sometimes its the screwdriver, sometimes its the hammer.
  19. Wow, talk about a broken arrow...
  20. I let fish pick my favorites. Usually they say watermelonish plastic, shaddish, or shinnerish spinnerbait and cranks, black or white top water.
  21. Yup, those are the old USA made ones, hold on to those, they are a tad heavier and dive a little shallower than the new 200s (which aren't bad). My old 100s are some of my favorite shallow cranks.
  22. Yeah, team is really a misnomer, they are more like clubs. Either way, I wish they had them when I was in school.
  23. I never thought of using it in fresh water, but a rubber covered dowel works good. Something like a Bic pen with some shrink wrap over it should do. We use a larger version offshore, or lotion...
  24. Tigers demise started when he switched to the Nikes, just saying...
