  1. Don't show this to the monkey... https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/2016-03-11-000000/de-minimis-value-increases-800
  2. Were I to ever cast an umbrella, it would have little or no weight on the "head", heck, it wouldn't even have a head.
  3. Coincidentally I just found a pocket of fish on squarebills today, caught them on a Bandit 100, KVD 1.0, H2O, and Speed Trap, guess which one did best? I hadn't thrown it in years.
  4. x2. Having worked in the sporting goods industry in 4 different categories, and pretty much every position, I will tell you without a hint of doubt to separate what you like to do from what makes you money, or you will be unhappy and/or pennyless.
  5. X2. Yeah, I carry a tiny one. Pull a little tension on the braid, and all you really need to do is touch it lightly.
  6. If you don't want them to use your tackle, put on a pair of pants and tell them so. Problem solved.
  7. I tell every bass I catch that it's my PB. Wouldn't want to damage their self esteem. I'm thinking of getting participation trophies for them all. I only keep loose mental tabs on the LMB I catch, so to answer your question, no.
  8. If you don't care about your kids SAT scores, and know a good divorce lawyer, it works great...
  9. You are releasing the spool to late. Common for folks used to only spinning. Try to load the rod more on the back cast and release it as it passes your ear, also follow through parallel to the water pointing the rod where you want your lure to go. Actually if you do the above with a sidearm or 3/4 cast, you'll be better served. Just keep practicing and it will become second nature.
  10. Knot strength, Yield strength, shock strength, handling. No fly away breakoffs after kinking it on backlashes, did I mention knot strength?...
  11. I've caught bass in Central America with a hand line, not sure what ratio that would be. Equipment needs to be functional, anything else is just gravy. Also, many o fthe older reels had spools with larger diameters, making the IPT of a lower ratio higher.
  12. If you get fishing line wet you must discard it or the planet may stop rotating. (At least that's what I've read on the interweb)...
  13. Yup, they are sulking with their bellies on the bottom in shallow water here. a slow (and I mean slow) rolled spinnerbait right on their nose has been the trick. We have a warming trend, and the back side of the moon coming up, so I'm thinking its gonna giddy up. The only issue, is if it warms up quick again, they may go right to the nests for real this time.
  14. popper, buzzbait, and frog. I don't consider wakebaits topwater, but I'm really warming up to them.
  15. Those must be some cold winters...
  16. Favorite perspective for fishing videos Back of my head facing the monitor...
  17. x2. I do this to most frogs when fishing really thick slop.
  18. There's a crazy concept, see what works for you and use that. Silas for president!
  19. Since the lines are similar in diameter, I'd go for the uni to uni (also cause I still have an axe to grind with Crazy Al . I like more turns on the braid than the leader, like 10/5 maybe. Also 50 would be a better choice for that connection.
  20. I usually use 2 major strategies when fishing a grass flat. one is to cover water using the wind or trolling motor with a search bait like a swimjig, spinnerbait, square bill or paddle tail. The other is to hit specific targets like grass edges, depressions, and other boundaries. If I can identify a creek channel, or other contour no matter how slight, I'll spend some effort there. The lures used on the latter, in addition to the ones already mentioned, are t-rig plastics or jigs. As the water warms a buzzbait, popper, Sammy, or other topwaters can be really good at times. As always, I let the fish tell me what to do. A grass flat can fish quite differently from day to day, and sometimes hour to hour, so it pays to stay flexible.
  21. Is tuning a crankbait a thing of the past? Not as long as Norman is still in business...
  22. Good reel. I know 5.something is out of favor, but that would make a good crankbait, slow rolling, or small/medium swimbait reel.
  23. Nope, I own Shimanos, Daiwas, Pinnacles, Pfluegers, and Round Abus. If it works, it works. I'm the same with rods and lures too.
  24. They look great. I would buy or trade for a couple if you are interested.
