  1. Get the foam off so you can get to the cracked part. Gorilla glue the crack(s) (make sure it doesn't stick to the reel seat itself), allow to dry. (resist the urge to try it) then wrap with electrical tape. You can replace the foam if you want, or wrap some tennis overwrap on it. I did this as a "temporary" fix on a rod about 10 years ago, and it's still going strong.
  2. Humans shouldn't fish from kayaks. Get the jon boat.
  3. The mirror mirror on the wall says no happy ending here...
  4. Perfect. I was just thinking treat it like a job interview. I'll just add cover your tattoos if you have them. Some folks might react negatively to them. Also even if its a no, continue to be pleasant and positive. If you see something that needs some work, like the grass or a fence, offer to fix it no strings attached. Of course if the fishing is really off the hook in the pond, then you do what you got to do. [Roy Munson "paying the rent"]
  5. No skirt, as far as lures, something without limbs sticking out or too much action.
  6. First confidence bait was a #9 blue back floating Rapala minnow. Found it in a tree as a kid, and it was my one and only lure for 2 years or so. Caught many LMB, smallies, pickerel, yellow perch and sunnies in the Catskills with it. My current confidence lure is everything in my box. I don't throw things I don't have confidence in.
  7. For bass stuff the PA location has a better selection. The Arundel Mills one has to cater to the rockfish and tourist crowd, so they merchandise (appropriately I think) accordingly. They've got plenty of freshwater things though. #theenthusiastisnotyourcustomer
  8. I would look at a 6'6" med with a Revo, Lew's or similar clone. The ergonomics work well with smaller hands. I agree with the post above that balance is more important than actual weight. If she's just getting started, get some 12-14 lb mono on there and some lures that cast well to get the feel and confidence.
  9. Floro on a baitcaster - want to give it another try You know, if you are really into that sort of thing, the InterWeb® has made it a breeze to get an attractive woman clad in leather, whip in hand to your door with just a click..
  10. I like the Strike kings a bit better, but yes, I almost always take those silly things off.
  11. I'm pretty sure I can fill my bathtub and throw a watermelon candy UV speed craw on a 1/8-5/16 t-rig, and catch at least a couple. I hardly ever not have one tied on.
  12. Great advise. Just got back from a shark tournament, missed the $ by 2 lbs (expletive emoji). I will just add fish your strengths, leave it all out there, and take the time to absorb the lesson(s) in a positive way after the fact. Experience and success breeds confidence, which breeds more success, so keep the circle rolling. There are times where you will do everything right and not do well, and others where victory will seem to fall on your lap, so the trick is to focus on what you can do, and let the chips fall where they may. Easier said than done of course come crunch time.
  13. There are a quite a few makers that make great swim jigs. For grass, I like the Seibert bullet and finesse dirty the best. I think using the lightest one for the conditions goes a long way to getting bit, and getting them through or just over the grass.
  14. Caught a couple of those in Puerto Rico a while back. I also caught one in MD that had so much of those black patches, it was almost all black.
  15. Some lines have more of a tendency to slip than others. Go with a palomar or uni, problem solved. I'm always concerned about getting hypnotized the spinning lure when I tie a SDJ.
  16. Wait a minute, I think ya'll are on to something, maybe instead of a book, I'll do a monthly magazine, and along with the crayons and stickers, I'll include 4 random baits...
  17. Next edition will come with a box of crayons...
  18. I just finished my book on saltwater fishing, I think some of it may apply to LMBs, here it is in it's entirety... Chapter one: Go to where they are at. Chapter two: Catch 'em. The End.
  19. Not what I would do, but if you insist on fishing a fluke in windy conditions, either find some active shallow fish or go with a weighted hook. The best way to "master" a technique is to fish it when fish want it.
  20. LOL. I'm so glad I'm not a kid today, and tackle shops aren't small enough to shake in the face of a middle school (junior HS in my day) girl while chasing her around the classroom yelling "it's going to get you". Back then it was an apology and maybe detention. Today it would be a federal case.
  21. I replace them with short shank brown hooks, no split rings with one of the points facing forward on either hook, then proceed to cut those two points off. Get hung up a lot less. Always have one tied on in colder months.
  22. in my best Dan Akroyd voice: "it's a lure AND a roach clip..." Being weedless kind of defeats the purpose though, seedless I can see...
  23. No, I think you are right, sadly though, what does that say about us? When I fish my local lakes and ponds I bring a couple of plastic shopping bags and bring out all the fishing related trash, as well as all the plastic that will fit. I also put all the fishing line in my back pocket.
