  1. You can fish with it, as long as you know what you are getting into. There were a couple of different Altoonas made (I'm a bit of a bakelite reel collector, horder actually), but you are probably getting a direct drive baitcaster with a heavy spool and only a tension knob, so you'll be limited to casting decent sized baits, no drag, and will need a supply of bandaids and neosporin for your knuckles.
  2. My orthodontist invented the original o ring...
  3. It's like that all over this area too. When the water warms early, they will move shallow, and when it inevitably cools some they will back track a bit, but not to the winter staging areas, the size and contour of the specific body of water has a lot to do with it as well. It's the best of both worlds, cause you can catch numbers and size with just a few baits (once you find them) a JB, square bill, spinnerbait and jig or t-rig is all you need. (Throw in a lipless and chatter if you must).
  4. I would suggest that if you "need" a new rod, and not only not know which one, but what for, then Just roll up a benjamin and light a (good) cigar with it instead.
  5. Shine that reel up and display it on a shelf. It really doesn't have the features or ability to cast and or troll with. As far as a rod, anything MH will work for casting or light trolling.
  6. I likes.
  7. MD representing! Its gonna be a good spring.
  8. I really like a popper, but sometimes a frog or buzzbait.
  9. I'm billing you for the microphone.
  10. Was testing some spinners I made for a May Canadian trip on a local pond, fine tuning and catching some pickerel, saw what looked to be the beginings of bass nest clearings, but talked myself out of it with "too early". Well, a particularly good looking double blade black/gold with some bucktail and hackle got stopped cold 10 feet in front of me by what I thought was the pickerel I was looking for, nope a fat 5 1/2 lb LMB. The cool part is I was looking right at the spinner, and she was sitting in about 2 feet of water and just turned her head and swallowed. Gonna go try to go do more of that on purpose today. (and build a couple more of those).
  11. Not as often as some other fish, but bass will chase bait out of the water. I had one hit a lure suspended (not on purpose) just above the surface once.
  12. Hard to tell, looks like an older Luhr Jensen.
  13. Chatterbaits. I hate fishing them, but I love they catch fish sometimes. ps: Use lighter gauge hooks and switch the snap out for a strong split ring, and you'll get most of your blades back from snags with 12-15 lb line.
  14. Not a fan of the Spro, and the live target is just so, so for me. Snakeheads test a frog's durability and hookup ratio the way a bass can't, and I like the Booyah, SK, and Trophy Frog for getting me bit and hooking them, but the latter really gets beat up.
  15. I have some of both and tie a palomar on spinnerbaits, the knot doesn't usually move around on either, so no preference.
  16. High 40s to low 50s water temp and a rising trend. If you wait for 60, you'll miss a lot of good fishing.
  17. That's the nature of hype. You can go on YouTube and watch insane catches on most lures (and some things that aren't lures). In a few months ya'll move on to the next new must have, that will not be new or must have...
  18. The ladies at the Hagerstown and National Harbor Columbia outlets know me by name, and the NEX blows stuff out end of year, so I'm always wearing some of their stuff, it holds up, and I think they pay the seamstress by how many pockets they sew on, so yeah..
  19. GET OFF MY LAWN!
  20. 1/0 with a ring, 2/0 without.
  21. Why would I bring a 360 XBox? I so much prefer playing Space Invaders on the Atari® 2600 when casting from shore...
  22. Single gold Colorado short arm with a weed guard! I'm like that guy just waiting for his bud to break up with his girl... we'd go to forever 21 skirt shopping though...
  23. This^. One rod, one 3600 box, a couple of bags of plastics, needle nose, and nail clipper in a (neutral colored) small JanSport®. The end. No hacking required.
