  1. Yes. I never hit the water without a bag. Give me a trick worm, speed worm and a ultra vibe craw, and I'll catch something.
  2. You guys are making me nostalgic. I spent a lot of time fishing up there as a kid. We had a place in Jeffersonville, and fished all over up there. I may need to make a trip.
  3. Excel lent!
  4. I think large underspin is a bit like jumbo shrimp, but you can rig a second hook on the first on a smaller head, just gotta make sure the body doesn't interfere with the blade. I do it on small chatter baits with 7" straight tails, when fished with heavy mono, it sinks slowly, almost suspending.
  5. Huge fan of the speed worm. I use a 3/0 offset hook, or a screw-lock one, weighted or unweighted. I also use it as a chatter and spinnerbait trailer. I have also been known to bite the tail off and fish it like a stubby senko. I don't always throw it, but I carry at least one bag as a security blanket.
  6. I have zero brand loyalty when it comes to lures. That doesn't mean I don't use more of a particular brand because it fits what I'm doing, or because there is something about it I like, but I have favorite lures that are over $20, and some from Walmart and bargain bins that I paid $1 for. I have a DSG cheapie JB that is crushing right now over some of the "gotta have" JBs.
  7. I don't select line type/diameter based on water clarity (for bass fishing).
  8. https://www.youtube.com/embed/OORsz2d1H7s ps: that young Mrs Claus was a hottie...
  9. Good thing he became a bass angler and not a critical thinker...
  10. Mine is a Costa Rican howler named Puro. He doesn't care that I own more tackle than a dozen guys could use in a lifetime, or that I know I have several of that thing in the shopping cart buried somewhere in the garage, or even that I'm probably getting some for Xmas, It's feeding time!
  11. FIFY. Seriously though, there are some good knots for heavy mono, (check out the tarpon videos) I usually tie up to 100 lb test, and crimp anything heavier. Crimping is a required skill if you are fishing offshore, but requires the right tool and experience, a poorly done crimp will fail miserably. Also even with chaffing protection, since it's a loop, it has a limited life, so need to keep an eye on that. Hollow feeling watching a winning fi$h swim away after fighting it for the. Better part of an hour.
  12. They are going to do what they are going to do, no point stressing about it. It really depends on how the rest of the Spring develops, but if it stays consistently cold, the most likely outcome is that the water will warm quickly once it does warm, so it will concentrate the spawn to a shorter period. The fishing won't be any worse, but it may appear to be if one doesn't stay versatile and nimble.
  13. Fish early and late on Wednesdays, and maybe put a fake 1/2 off at the weed dispensary Facebook post.
  14. They have been catching some in the Potomac around Fletchers, Severn, and a couple of the Eastern rivers that I know of. Its only going to get better by the day. Remember to release (any you catch accidentally) immediately. For some reason MD guys seem not to know the definition of that word... Oh, and strong JB and squarebill LMB bite right now in SoMd. Tried the spinnerbait (cause I really like throwing one) but they didn't want it.
  15. I'm a fan of that ugly, flat, rubber one knocker, wanna be squarebill. It catches.
  16. I hear bass resource.com is pretty good...
  17. Thanks! I can just about tolerate LMB guys talking max drags, but now I need therapy.
  18. Yup, the Hefty® poncho has saved the day on many occasions
  19. If your idea of "better" is shorter and stiffer, than yes.
  20. You aren't looking at this the right way. I use my wife's Stradic/Compre combos more than she does...
  21. I says wrong. But I sure wish all the tools in the Mattawoman would believe that.
  22. Yes, and I'll go a step further, the only opinion that counts ( including mine) is the fish's opinion, and while certain things carry over from place to place, time to time and conditions to conditions, it is specific to the present tense of all those. MMMMMMMM!...
  23. I doubt anyone could even feel the effects of a .4 gear ratio difference, it amounts to less than 2" per handle turn. So your reel will be fine.
