  1. I think I have used pretty much every kind of plastic as a trailer at one time or another. Straight tails or rat tails work great. I don't use the trick worm often cause I usually use them t-rigged, then when they blow out they go in the wacky bag, and usually they become a casualty at some point doing that even with a band. I've started splitting toads length wise and using that as trailer on larger spinnerbaits, working out great.
  2. People who use Quantum reels shouldn't be made fun of, they should be pitied... Just kidding, anyone can use whatever they want. Of course if my kid came home wanting a Quantum reel I'd beat him with the belt...
  3. It doesn't make business sense to offer them hookless. It's not like it's costing them sales, the "enthusiasts" are buying them and switching hooks, and the casual consumer is buying them as well and using them as is. Setting up a line to produce them, and it's packaging, not to mention the added costs of a new SKU just doesn't make financial sense. Now a "Tour Grade" limited color run with KVD's hooks already on them, with him telling you how he now doesn't have to switch hooks and how it was instrumental in his last tournament win? Now that will work. "They can't stand it!"...
  4. Not senkos so much, but other worms. I set up newbies who are having trouble with plastics with this rig, not too different than what is used for salt water trout or crappie. A drag and drop works best most of the time, but dead sticking, jerking, or shaking can be the ticket at times. Now for the technique name...
  5. No. The precision of a scale is not determined by the unit used. Now if you are saying that you are comparing scales that only displays whole units with no decimals or fractions, then your statement would be correct. Most of today's scales can toggle between units. Or maybe you are right, and we should all get scales that measure in grains or karats... To the OP's question, lures often vary (usually heavier) than labeled. Not an issue in my mind.
  6. Since there is no standard in hook sizing, and most baits can be fished (most efficiently) with 2 hook sizes, assuming you speak to 10 people and they use say 4 different brand of hooks, you will get (I didn't do the math) 6-8 different answers. No SHOCK there. It's a matter of matching the hook to the bait (and then to the line and rod, but let's keep it simple). And going with what works for you. I tend to use a smaller, lighter hook than most, and that's what works for me. I also only use a few different plastics, and know what size and bend hook I want regardless what the pkg is labeled.
  7. A rod's action (let's overlook the fact that you have also intermingled that with power for now) being fast or slow has no bearing on the gear ratio of the reel being used with it, even though that gear ratio can also be described as fast or slow. Make it a 1/2 oz...
  8. Let me get about 1/4 oz next time you score some of that good $#!t.
  9. I don't C-rig much, so I don't have a dedicated rod. A longish sensitive MH leaning more to H fast is what works best for me. When I do end up C-rigging I usually use one of my older flipping sticks.
  10. 5.3 good for bass fishing 6.3 good for bass fishing 7.0 good for bass fishing 8.0 good for selling reels
  11. One is like that crazy girlfriend in college...
  12. I don't usually throw a frog until the first of the spawners come off their spawning funk. This is not to say I couldn't catch them earlier, I just don't see a good reason to throw it before that, and I like throwing poppers more than frogs, so I'm usually doing that until the mats, pads and other junk gets going good, usually late May-mid June here. I'm sure I could catch late pre spawners with a frog if I really wanted to, I just don't. I usually catch a couple of good ones on buzz baits in March and April while pickerel fishing, but the topwater ROI just isn't there that early for me.
  13. On the boat, I hardly set up more than 6 (usually less) I'll bring some backups just in case. from shore it's 1 rod most of the time, sometimes 2. I'll use less in places I know well, more in unfamiliar or new water.
  14. Can someone please translate...
  15. Black, brown, green, orange and red. I like red and orange as accent colors on jigs. Look at a crawfish, and its usually a mishmosh of blotches and patches. I find you just need to get close, except in really clear water and when they first change colors. Matching them well then means I have to hold on tight to the rod and have the pliers handy.
  16. EWG = Escape Without Grab. If I'm not using a stout straight shank hook, I'm on a round bend offset. I wish someone made some with shorter shanks.
  17. LOL. Google Paulina Villareal, part metronome, part John Bonham. Tiny, but she seems to trash some part of the kit each gig.
  18. I didn't know they made low hats...
  19. Brass is a better material to make gears from than aluminum, period. Aluminum is used in order to achieve a lighter weight. Brass IS an alloy...
  20. To me rods and reels are tools, just like I don't love a screwdriver more than a hammer, I don't favor spinning over BC or vise versa. At times one is the better tool, and others it isn't. A lot of LMB guys suffer from "how it should be done" to their detriment.
  21. I prefer to jig a spoon of jig head/plastic, but often they prefer a drop-shot.
