  1. will hooks lose their temper? Not if they are Valyrian steel.
  2. Oh yeah, one of my favorite times to fish. Of course too much of a good thing can make it bad sometimes. I have this one can't miss bite at this one place I fish, that when a creek that comes into this lake flows like a river (it barely trickles most times) it's lights out on a t-rig craw
  3. No way to be definitive, but a more robust hookset may have helped. Of course it's possible the fish was skin hooked lightly, and the head shaking surface breaking thing will often bite you. The last thing I see as bad form which may or may not have contributed to the fish getting away is the fact that as you reeled the fish to straight up and down, you then pulled it out of the water with a high stick (after hesitating on what to do) instead of leading it sideways. But hey some fish are always going to get away, and others are never going to get away. Oh and not related to loosing the fish, but the casting grip changing opposite hand bail closing thing is not efficient. Sorry, I coach tennis and cycling, and tell it Jack Webb style. Hope that helps.
  4. Yup, with the same results as if they tried to dunk from the foul line. (James Worthy should have had his own shoe).
  5. If it's a black back chart. 1.5, then ye$$$$$! Yup, someone needs to binge watch Mad Men...
  6. Ok I need a couple of guys from Michigan, Minnesota, or upstate NY to hold this guy down while I beat him with Mardi Gras beads...
  7. Cork, cause it feels best and it doesn't compress like synthetic materials when you squeeze it. and no sealer. It's supposed to look like it gets used.
  8. Are you sure you didn't pay $63 for each?...
  9. I've settled on a 7' for frogging. A 6'10" or 7'2" would work well too.
  10. Challenge the whole .01 acres thing, that's like the size of my bed room (including the gabled alcove).
  11. Duh!, he's got more trouble seeing the predators coming hence can't get away as fast...
  12. How do you know it's not the reel that's costing you $30?...
  13. realistic finishes and detail, including eyes are meant to catch fishermen, not fish. Some of my best cranks are over 20 years old and barely have eyes (or paint in some cases).
  14. A rose by any other name... Jerkbait, minnow, plug, swimmer. Some of the best "jerkbaits" are walleye trolling lures (or is it the other way around?)
  15. I think it's a pain (not to mention silly) to fish a frog sitting down.
  16. I have a 704 (two actually) and the 6'10" MH XF SLX. Both good sticks, but very different. The SLX is a bit stiffer and a lot faster. I think the SLX would make a good single hook moving bait rod, and a decent enough budget jig and plastic rod. I found it more sensitive than the Fury, but I've never had trouble feeling bites, so don't go by me. I didn't weigh them, but they feel about the same while fishing them, perhaps the SLX is a tad lighter and the Fury a bit more balanced, but it's marginal, and again just going by feel. If you aren't catching fish (or loosing them somewhere along the way) It's you and not either of these two rods.
  17. Ya'll sound like the kind of guys who would scrape the patina off Lady Liberty. Why are we doing this?
  18. The trick to finding a good partner in a small boat (same as in tennis) is to have one right handed and one southpaw.
  19. You only spill it once before you handle it like nuclear waste.
  20. One of my favorite popper rods is a 6'6" that got too close to a hack saw.
  21. -I cut the main line instead of the tag end a few times, usually when I'm in a hurry to get back in the water. One time I did it not once, not twice, but three times. -One time I drove an hour and realized I forgot the rods. -Didn't pass the line through the levelwind, and caught a fish before I fixed it. Im sure if I think about it, I can come up with some other boneheaded things I've done over the years.
  22. assuming the viscosity works, gun oil (or any other lubricant) will work fine. Make sure it's not CLP or something like it with a lot of cleaners or surfactants.
  23. Yes, medium to small square bills, smallish med divers and some traps. Finnesse spinnerbaits too. I likes.
  24. I have something really close to that getting it done right now. Check your medical coverage and see if it covers sprained or hyperextended arms before changing that front blade to a colorado....
