  1. Any chance? sure, but there is also a chance I get a phone call and hear "come on over tonight, alone", and it's Scarlett Johansson on the other end...
  2. I have never caught a bass on an A-rig or a Whopper Plopper, and I suspect that isn't going to change...
  3. Avena? How does he not have a Cheerios endorsement....
  4. Had a meeting that kept getting postponed for an hour or two several times on Thursday, and had the frog rod in the car, so I hit a local spot for about 1/2 hour like 4 times. Only got 2 bites, only one came tight, but it ended up being just shy of 6, so that was ok.
  5. LOL. I just use 2 or 3 half hitches and the nail polish my wife tries in vain to hide. I tie mostly #6 and #4 popper tail hooks, and large 7/0-10/0 single hooks for trolling spoons. If you need any tied, just holler.
  6. I haven't found it necessary to get all the wraps to perfectly line up, but I also don't find it difficult to get them to line up. I find if you open them up so they are diagonal or sine wave looking rather than getting them close together, it makes it easier. Cinch down slowly until they just come together and snug, then wet slide to the end of loop, and snap the two working lines to set the knot. I finish with two opposing half hitches, but never had it slip even without them. I've got it down to less than a minute or so.
  7. No, that would make sense. Make a vlog and have your Patreons vote on it and decide. Old guys, I tell ya, with that life experience crap....
  8. I nominate you.
  9. What I have done is the past with a 5/6 WT when wanting to throw a larger more wind resistant popper or streamer designed for a heavier wt rod is to make up a pseudo shooting head out of some 8 or even 9 wt line. You will be limited to maybe a 30-50 ft cast, depending on skill and wind, but that is often plenty. Also a WF line will be a better choice for panfish and bass than a DT line, which most combos come with. oh, and black montana flies in like 3 sizes are a must, everything hits that.
  10. How big is too big? If she pivots her hip to one side and pushes off your thigh while scrunching her face... Zoom Ol' Monster!
  11. Dentists making spoons? Tony Accetta is rolling in his grave.... There are and were several small local spoon makers (both fresh and salt) making region specific designs that sometimes garner a broader following. Those actually look really good, a bit like Drones. What keeps most spoons from becoming more popular is that they are often quite speed and tackle specific. In the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, they can be a day's best lure. You haven't lived until a thresher decides to hit a bunker spoon when you are wire line trolling for striped bass.
  12. They are small. Too small for my liking. Too bad, cause I really liked it otherwise.
  13. Since the drag was at 95% (might want to try 96%) and not using braid, and it worked perfectly after the fact, I'm gonna go with base of thumb resting on release bar. Nope, can't be that, just tried it with one.
  14. You are probably coming out opposite how you went in.
  15. I match up the line to the gauge of the hook wire, more so than the size or weight of the jig. Of course lighter jigs do often also benefit from being fished with lighter lines as well. I usually fish finesse and swim jigs on 12 lb mono, or 30 lb braid with a corresponding lighter, slower rod. I sometimes fish a compact flipping jig with fairly stout gear, but that's more of a niche thing.
  16. Yes, exactly, now, if you turn around 180º and view this from the retailer's point of view, it makes perfect sense to keep a small inventory priced at (or above) MSRP of the items "the enthusiast" will come in looking for, while catering to the actual customers. We do bikes, and this is our strategy. Makes for interesting Yelp reviews, but makes $. Chasing sales at the expense of profits has led many small sporting goods retailers to go out of business.
  17. Spend the money on the line and rod. A suitable reel can be had for very little money, new or used. I would go with a 5 or 6 WT as a good middle of the road size for panfish and bass. The issue with the rod is in it being able to cast they fly, not so much fighting fish. I find Cabela's and BPS combos offer a lot of bang for the $.
  18. With reaching stuff on the bottom shelf?... He's just gonna say "Throw a Pop Max".... Sorry JF, too much caffeine.
  19. The bay above the BB is one big dead zone right now. Shallow in the tribs might be ok. On the plus side, all the striped bass are clustered together in 2 places. Talk about fish in a barrel.
  20. You guys remind me of my butt getting sweaty stuck on my grandma's couch... Sealing cork is as silly as, well..... sealing cork.
  21. Red neck chrome...
  22. I loose or rust out pliers on a regular basis, I have around 6 of the Wally World $1.97 ones in the house at any given time. I think they are 5" or 6", but I've never measured them. On the bike stand, I use the Channel Lock needle nose and dykes. They are precision made and hold up better than most. Oh, and the Pedro's cable cutters is way better than the Park ones.
  23. Ah, first sales taxes, and now purchasing and inventory control. I'll give it a crack, Can't speak specifically to the merchants mentioned, but there are several reasons why items can be out of stock. -In the case of large multi location national chains, purchasing is often centralized and store inventory controlled at HQ where the individual store has little or no control. -Other stores purchase seasonally, based on past performance, or what the Magic 8 Ball® recommends, and do not restock. -Yet others package or "kit" inventory items, and they restock as a bundle, so they'll end up with a lot of what doesn't sell, and empty pins for the popular stuff. The Mom and Pop shops that were on the ball and knew what their customers used, and kept it replenished, either went out of business or died.
  24. I have a bunch of their shallow cranks, I likes...
  25. I was there last month, and admittedly, It was mostly a spend time with the Mrs trip, but I didn't do anything to write home about. It's big clear water, so a boat, or good intel would help a lot. Did get to go all around MD and PA while there, saw The Franklin LLoyd Wright house, the Flight 93 Memorial, The waterfalls on the Yough, The highest point in MD, and some great outdoors. Also hit a bunch of smaller places on the way back, and caught a few as well.
