  1. Are you in DC like Washington? Cause we need you to do more fishing and less reading.
  2. best all around braid for a BC is 30 or 40.
  3. You are not going to get the same tensile strength from different diameter lines of similar material, no matter how big they claim it on the package. So yes, thinner line will have less abrasion resistance (decreased strength due to damage actually) than thicker diameter line. I find "standard" 10-12 lb line offers a good amount of abrasion resistance under most conditions, though sometimes a heavier line is required.
  4. I think the profile and sink rate probably accounted for the difference, but could be a number of things. You should all go out and switch lures, then you should all go out and fish the same lure for all three, then plot the results, that will give a better idea, otherwise it's human nature (evolutionary brain wiring actually) to want to assign causality, keeps us sane and feeling safe, shhh! that sounded like a saber toothed tiger, oh no, just a big armadillo looking thing, carry on...
  5. Put me squarely on the beat up jig better than new jig camp. I started fishing them a few times to wear them in before wiring the skirt, or randomly pulling strands, and cutting some before wiring. I also used to get my striped bass parachutes (like a giant bucktail tied with nylon doll hair) custom tied with like 1/3 the strands of how they normally came. Makes a difference.
  6. I am convinced that small springs and clips reach terminal velocity and pass through a worm hole onto a different dimension never to be seen again. I use a (tiny) flat head screw driver to pop them back in, and either put a finger over it, or shield it somehow in case it launches. Can you hear me Major Tom?...
  7. That's probably a different fish.
  8. "It's Fujigawa with Sony guts, $450, This is what you want"...
  9. I'd take about 1/2 that spool off and put some 15 lb braid on for what you want to do with it. I'm a big mono fan, but with wave action and wind, its going to be tough staying in touch with your lures with 10 lb mono.
  10. snag them, works for big fish, should work for smaller ones...
  11. Pretty much any bass lure that isn't too big will work well for what you describe, a 3600 with something like this (or anything similar from other makes) maybe: 3-4" senko finesse worm and trick worm baby brush hog/ Ultra vibe craw swim jig/finnese jig small jighead with curly tail or paddle tail #9 rapala, #8 HJ Bandit 100/ Daiwa Peanut SK 3/16/War Eagle Finesse spinnerbait #3 or #4 Mepps Popper/mini buzzbait Foot loose/ small SSR CB small pad crasher/scum frog
  12. Looks like Moon Unit (after an all night rave)....
  13. Same here, mostly because most decent jigs come painted, and I don't like to touch bare lead if I can avoid it. With the exception of shad darts, yellowtail hooks, and some other tiny jigs, I haven't found jighead color to matter.
  14. 0 for 6 suggests that it may be both equipment AND technique. A soft rod, some 10-12 lb mono, and triple grips® would have even Hellen Keller up to 3 or 4 out of 6. With sharp hooks and that setup , a gentle sweep set and steady pressure will have one up to 6 out of 6, 5.9876543210 anyway...
  15. Free lure to the first to identify the quote: "I'm sorry, I gave them back their money, everybody cheats, I just didn't know", "so now you know"...
  16. I do it a bit differently, 1st is selecting the viscosity of the spool bearing oil, then I adjust the tension knob, to where there is no side to side play, and then after choosing lure, I adjust the centrifugal pin/brake thingies. I run my reels a lot looser than most. I want it set up so on a hard snap cast, I get some over run that I can feather. If it's windy or I'm casting poor casting lures, I'll tighten things up a bit.
  17. Stradic CI 5 (hundred dollars)...
  18. My first racing road bike was pink (Colnago). I wrap my handlebars in pink, and wear pink socks for breast cancer awareness month. We used to get pliers and shears in pink cause they were much less prone to get stolen on the head boats. I don't own a pink reel, but I would fish one no problem. I guess if I was insecure or had a small thingy, I might feel differently...
  19. LOL, Not sure what that is, maybe Glenn got Moscow Hacked®, or..."I waited for like 3 seconds each time and got no response"... #millennialimpatience
  20. As long as it includes a few unboxings, and a challenge or two.... As long as it includes a few unboxings, and a challenge or two.... As long as it includes a few unboxings, and a challenge or two.... As long as it includes a few unboxings, and a challenge or two....
  21. The Ricos (as well as the Yellow Magics) have had some subtle (and some not so subtle) changes through the years. I find the Iovino to be the most consistent of the bunch. And while I almost always mod Pop Rs, I am not above modding any of the other poppers. Except my Michaels, I only have a few, and they are difficult (like impossible) to find. The first generation Pop Rs (from the 70s) are the ones I really like to mod. After they reintroduced them, they seemed to change them frequently.
  22. I read somewhere on the InterWeb® that a Pop X on spinning gear is much better... Seriously, The Lobina Rico, (Lobina is spanish for bass, and Rico is Spanish for Clunn) was one of the first poppers to incorporate the mods that were being made by the pros of the day. The "great" part is they spit or splish well, sit at the right angle, and have the right feathers right out of the box. There are (were) several other very similar "premium" poppers.
  23. I did say (typed) TEHO, so again, no to the spinning thing, and double no to the loop knot...
  24. Yuk! Poppers get a dedicated 6' Med BC. Can I fish a popper with spinning? yes, would I? No. But to each his own....
  25. I assume you mean Croton, and that would be my choice, though both are good. Haven't fished that area in a long while, but I hear they are still very good. The only issue with NYC water supply reservoirs are the restrictions and requirements to fish them, make sure you are familiar with them, or bring a slow fishing buddy. In addition to that, the clear, deep water and size make them difficult to figure out in just a few outings. The pigs that live there make it worth while though. Also, you have some surprisingly good LMB in your own backyard Lawn Guy Lander, LET'S GO RANGERS!!! POTVIN SUCKS!
