  1. I'm not sure I can nail it down.
  2. Oh yeah, like they say "When in Rome". I've fished a lot in places where most everyone uses a hand line. It does take some time to get used to doing it, as the mechanics are totally different than using a rod. Large diameter stiffish mono works best, and normally, one is fishing bait, although at times lures work. Oh, and if you want to be legit, use an old spark plug for a sinker, more street cred with the locals. Don't use a plastic bottle. It will crush. You can buy or make some hard spool. Some folks cast from the spool, like a spinning reel, others lay the line out before casting. Either works.
  3. The spool tension knob increases friction on the spool shaft, so loosening it will allow for a further cast. However, if setting only 1 cent. brake causes too little friction, and thus backlashes, increasing spool tension may have the effect of resulting in longer casts without backlash, and thus appear to do what you describing. A better approach might be more cent. brake, and less or no spool tension.
  4. Popper, buzzbait, wakebait, in that order.
  5. I read that all the *** mods have really bad foot odor...
  6. So you won't be deleting them then?... I have to say that if BR or any other website has or had any articles or other content on this man, specially if they dated back to 2010 or 2012 or earlier when word of his actions were few and limited to the general SoCal area, they certainly couldn't be faulted. Indeed, I would question why a site about LMB wouldn't have some such content. I'm pretty sure every cycling publication had Lance Armstrong articles, even through all his denials.
  7. Yes, and most serious froggers use 65 lb braid, which means when you bomb a frog, you will have 1/2 or less left of line on the spool, and your IPT will be quite low when you get a bite way out there. A 200 size reel makes the most sense for frogging with heavy braid. Buy hey, if a tiny reel works for you, have at it.
  8. Is this a research question, or just another pointless hypothetical? Either way if you follow the advise you are going to end up with the wrong shoe..., I mean stick. "If you had someone give you $200 and could only buy a pair of sneakers. What brand would you buy and what size and width?"
  9. Kayak fishing is silly enough, but fat guy in a kayak should be a YouTube category, like Top 10, or flat earth. Some of the funniest things I've seen on the water.
  10. There are a lot of InterWeb Bikini anglers, but JJ is the real deal. Watch her casting net video. Now excuse me for 3.3 minutes....
  11. I can't tolerate too much dissolved Coca Cola® in my rum...
  12. Yeah, but you downsize the reel and fill 3/4, and it works fine, In the case above, he's throwing shot puts, so casting won't be an issue as with smaller baits. I would probably go with a slow rod, braid and a leader. That's how a lot of inshore work with similar sized lures gets done. I was thinking more of reeling those 10Xs over and over.
  13. X2. 2500 is the way to go for LMB. I use my 4000s for inshore salt water mostly.
  14. Good to hear. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery to him, and to Mr Defoe, (even if he fishes a popper with a spinning rod tied with a loop knot).
  15. LOL. Many Yellowfin owe their freedom to early FC introduction. I had an interesting conversation with Tred Barta once, when FC first became popular. I learned a lot of new phrases, most anatomically impossible...
  16. Sorry to hear about your ailment. I'm just starting to feel it on some hand joints. You can fish most lures on spinning that you do with BCs. Just match the action/power of the rod to the lures. There certainly aren't as many spinning rods on the racks as BCs for standard or larger bass lures, but they are made. Also rods meant for other fishing often make perfectly good bass rods. As far as finesse baits, small jigs, JBs and cranks, t-rigs, and swim jigs can all be used with spinning. Don't throw a 3/16 Baby Boo with a flat Abert unless you want your thumb to really hurt...
  17. Find a good spinnerbait fisherman, and try to go fishing with him as much as possible, specially in the spring. Wax his boat, bring lunch, pay for gas, flirt with his ugly daughter, and do whatever else it takes to get on his good side. Then watch, listen, and emulate. DO NOT say "but I read that I should be.." ever. Spinnerbait fishing is loaded with nuances, and variations, that most folks gloss over, thinking it's all about chucking and winding. I like Mother's, Genoa and provolone on rustic italian, non-ethanol, and don't have kids...
  18. LOL. I hope to get to hack level at some point. I'll take something perchy/gillie from one of the boxes to the left for $600 Alex...
  19. Were you fishing in the same spot or moving around while giving each color 30 minutes? The number of bites may have nothing to do with color. I will say though that purple is one of my favorite worm colors. So coffee, bourbon, cigars, and multiple sex partners don't actually cause.....
  20. Tangled up in blue when fishing BCs, The twist with spinning, Dream on when chasing big fish, and Yesterday and Tomorrow, when faced with today's conditions.
  21. I would go with the 704.
  22. Yes. Check the inshore section of a decent salt water shop. I hope you find Popeye forearms sexy though....
  23. You were not "hung twice" whatever that means. You lied, and got caught. So yeah, that's a legit ticket. spin it anyway you want if it makes you feel better. And posting pictures of fish caught illegally is, what's the word I'm looking for... STUPID.
  24. You don't need 25 lbs of drag for stripers, 6-10 is plenty. A smooth drag is more important than "max" drag, which is a made up number anyway.
  25. Good advise. Good tackle shop. Depending on when you go, flounder, bluefish, striped bass, tog, and sea bass are the usual suspects, but you never know what might show up. I like 20 lb mono or 30 lb braid with a leader for that type of fishing.
