  1. They are called oval split rings (though they aren't exactly that) You tie to the long end. The thinking is that it keeps the line off the joint, and possible damage or binding. On a side note, with some cranks, I purposely put the open joint of round split rings on the lure's tie.
  2. I fish quite a bit in NJ, and I haven't found bass there to like or dislike colors any differently than other places. Something dark, something light, something natural, as usual. I did almost get a fine once cause I didn't have my license clipped to the back of my head, tools!
  3. And yet here we are, on the most popular thread on this site talking about them. Like they say "any publicity is good publicity"...
  4. Assuming you didn't bend something while dunking it, it's probably a dirty or dried bearing, or some grit in there. These reels remind me of some old school spinners in that the tolerances aren't tight, and they don't have a zillion parts. Cleaning and lubing should help (lube heavier than usual). Reminds me of my old Ryobis.
  5. Couldn't agree more. I edited out all the fluff and left the important part of your post. I think we do a disservice to potential new anglers as well as to the sport of bass fishing when we propagate the idea that top of the line tackle and specific lures are necessary to be a successful angler and catch more fish.
  6. I've done that float a few times, and have camped and fished along the Delaware as well, all be it not in quite some time. If you are going to be floating and casting with no stopping along the way at deeper pools, eddies, and other structure, a curly grub, swim jig or wacky plastic as you are already doing is probably the best you can do. You may luck on a good one, but most likely they will be dinks, the river is full of them. I would suggest dedicated fishing trips, if you are trying to fish it properly.
  7. How is this even a question? I can see bass boat vs jon boat maybe, but a kayak is "more fun, gets you places you can't with a boat, and puts you closer to the water" is an euphemism for "I can't afford to own, keep, and run a boat"
  8. Comes with a free roll of Flex Seal Tape® just pay separate S&H... Hunter Ellis will deliver it personally...
  9. How do I get the dye off my fingers?
  10. Hey, Nathan Detroit, you might want to stick to bass fishing and stay away from casinos and clandestine games. "I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere"..
  11. There is no "river tackle" rivers, just like lakes and other bodies of water, all fish different. The Mississipi? The Potomac? The Susky? The James? Big river? Little river? etc, etc. anything from an ultra light, to heavy tackle that would be suited for salt water could be the right tackle to use. Base tackle on conditions, the lures or "weak pieces of bait" you plan to use, and the fish you expect to catch.
  12. Yup, $$$. I would photo shop an Ozark Trail or H2O logo on it, and say "Look I found the exact one, and bought you two"...
  13. How is that different than a non pegged t-rig or a knocker rig? Oh yeah, it uses a different sinker and a bead, gotta have a new "technique" name. Something else "new" that isn't.
  14. I find that slight dimpling is usually not a problem. I also find that the backing of Navy ribbons, cut to size work well, I'm sure ribbons from other services would work, but probably not as well . Congratulations to all our new Chief Selects.
  15. Agreed. But I think when looking for a good all around rod compromise is implied. As such rods that avoid extremes in all characteristics will lend themselves to the task. Of course this assumes that the lures to be used are of the normal size and weight used for bass. This is why a 7' MH Fast or Mod Fast is often mentioned, and a good choice. I would argue that if speaking of a single rod, a 6'9" or 6'10" would be a better choice.
  16. I can't imagine breaking 10 lb mono off in open water, no matter how big the bass. It has to be a knot problem, a bad spool, damaged line or some combination of those.
  17. I catch a lot of big bluegill and other panfish with 3/4" swimbaits...
  18. Breaking knots with fluoro? Nope, never heard of that...
  19. It was brand new braid, still fairly stiff and staying round. It felt a bit thicker than 50 PP, but not much. Probably could have loaded a few more feet on the spool too. Just for S&Gs, I'll lay it out and measure it at some point.
  20. You know he is Roland's kid right?.... I have a NOS C-Lector I can let you have for a good price...
  21. If you are catching them two at a time, you don't need a better rod...
  22. So more light line finesse fishing videos and Googan® drop shot baits? Do they even know the origin of the word?
