  1. Use 1/2 the braid.
  2. Keep in mind that when bass are found in places where the water temp stays warm, say over mid to high 60s degrees or so year round, they will spawn as the water cools, not warms, so it flips (or is it pitches) things around. I don't know how that affects things, I have fished in PR, Mexico and Africa for them, but not extensively. Here in the mid Atlantic/North East, I find that the post spawn funk isn't as long as most think, it just gets added in our heads to the spawn, I'd say a week, week and a half or so.
  3. LMAO. $40 and $25 exorbitant, That's a good one! How much are zombies?
  4. I think this is where bass guys get it wrong. To me, hooking a bait differently, adding or not adding weight to it somewhere, using a different size or shape lure, a different hook, burying the point or not, are just methods of getting a bait to the fish in a particular situation. Which approach works best or better depends on the present variables. Naming the presentation or rigging gives the illusion that these are each discrete and set, when in reality they are for the most part mofifications or tweeks on each other.
  5. I got my first square bill and spinnerbait ones of the year yesterday. Nice not to have to crappie fish for bass. It's about to get good.
  6. The hot water thing works great. I find that skinny dippers are soft enough for bends not to matter. Sometimes bent ones work better.
  7. Not underspins, but what has been working for me last 3 days is what can best be described as stroking a ned rig about 6" at a time. Slow swim inches from the bottom second best. I got one each on a crank and spinnerbait today, so I won't be playing with crappie gear much longer.
  8. Yes, by eliminating or reducing the reflection on the surface. How much they help will depend on the angle of the sun, cloud cover, and the effects of wind and current on the surface.
  9. If I were to rank presentations on critical rod requirements, spinnerbaits would be closer to the bottom. Maybe a custom rod if you can't find something off the shelf? Or get that rod you liked redone?
  10. SLX will work fine for rough duty. I liked everything about mine except the size, It was just ergonomically too small for my hand, But a lot of folks like smaller reels, so no issue there for most.
  11. It is used as a stop for the sinker. An oval split ring, or something similar could be used too. You could also use a knot if your beads have small enough holes. Bobber stops can be used if you are using the same line and leader, that's what I've been doing more and more.
  12. Yes. Bass guys like to separate the different ways they fish for bass into "techniques". But there is really no such thing. The 3 things I listed above function the same way and vary only in scale. ie one is a bigger version of the other or vise versa. yup, plus the feeling the bite thing, and setting the hook thing, and getting the length and diameter of the leader right thing, and picking the right bait and hook thing... I'm surprised anyone ever catches fish with it...
  13. Carolina rig is simplicity itself. A hook, a sinker, and a swivel, maybe a bead or 2. I would not recommend it as a way to catch your first bass. A lot of experience required to make it work well in varying situations. Also, I think there are better ways to fish more productively most of the time. But have at it, what's the worst that could happen. if you do I would recommend a mini version, or as the bass guys say, mojo or split shot.
  14. Nope, in the words of Ivan Drago "If he dies, he dies..." Cue Survivor
  15. Yeah gigantic like infinite cause you are dividing by zero. BG comes in 12 or 15.
  16. #8 HJ is my go to small JB for cold water. Start with an extra split ring at the nose, and it should suspend or ever so slowly sink. I have a couple of LCs (bevy something or other) that work well.
  17. To me there are no techniques. Fishing is fishing.
  18. The easiest way to tie a blood knot is to tie it like a dropper loop. I'm sure there are a bunch of videos on it. Th eFG isn't difficult per se, just requires time and an extra hand.
  19. I think Daiwa and Shimano are better than most other brands, but I also think that most of the products from all the major brands are quality products that exceed the requirements of the task at hand.
