  1. Yup, I like short rods for tip down twitch presentations. For dog walking I like a 6'6" MH Fast leaning to moderate. I just found a 6' pistol grip Garcia Conolon Custom while cleaning the garage. The distance from the reel to the tip is only about 1 1/2" shorter than a 6'6" rod. I'm gonna fish it just for S&Gs. I'm thinking spooks and spinnerbaits. Now where did I leave that 4600C?...
  2. I rough up my baits by rubbing them against the inside of fish's mouth.
  3. Nope. I have this thing I do where I go catch one on Dec 31st and Jan 1st. Much easier than it used to be since the climate hoax started. 4 year streak, and other than a 2 week period, where the water got really cold, and froze over for a couple of days at a time, I've caught at least a couple most outings. Last week or so, small cranks and finesse spinnerbaits have started to work. Mostly dinks, but got a few 2 lbers and 2 close to 3.
  4. There was a batch that had some of the BBs stuck or catching. I find hitting them with the handle of a screwdriver fixed most. Some never came around. If you contact SK, they will probably do something for you.
  5. Males and females move up separately and "merge" into the spawn. If I'm catching males in the pre spawn, and they are smallish, I'll be more likely to move on if the bite dwindles. If I'm on females, then I'm probably going to stay put. Big females usually move in earlier than smaller ones. I like it when it cools hard after the watr warms, cause they will either back off a touch or stay put near by, and there will be a concentration of fish in a small area. It's almost here.
  6. Must be a horse power/torque specific humor, The commercial fisherman rushes home and washes up before jumping into bed with his wife, and tells her " I worked really hard today, caught a bunch of fish, how bout a little nookie?" She turns to him and says, "Not tonight I have a haddock"...
  7. What he said. For me 2 different rods. Square bills I fish on a shorter non-cranking specific rod. A 5xd and similar baits are cranked with a long moderate MH rod.
  8. The sharp hook thing is key, you might want to bend the point up just a tad, and finally, the Fury 703c doesn't lock out as it loads up, as most "fast" rods do. Reel up the slack and load the rod before setting the hook with some authority, and keep the fish coming. Changes in direction can give a fish a chance to shake or introduce slack long enough to get loose, specially with braid and no leader. I had more fish than usual come unbuttoned when I first got a Fury 703c. Lastly some fish are going to get off no matter what, and some are not going to get off no matter what, just part of fishing.
  9. When bank fishing, unless you are going to one spot and camping out (which is seldom a good idea) less is more. Depending on where and when, I'll go with one rod and one bait with a few back ups of the same thing, to a knapsack with one or two 3600 boxes and a couple of bags of plastics. Anything more is counter productive. When in transition like now, or when fishing unfamiliar water I'll be on the upper end of it, and when I'm getting a fix for an hour or two local, I may just take one rod and a couple of things in a pocket.
  10. Those are all good, and cover the range of compact/finnesse SBs. I would add a SK 3/16. The Booyah 3/16 is tiny, and best for shallow water. Don't be afraid to pinch a sinker, or change out a blade or two if the conditions require it.. That is the height of maliciousness,... So maybe the angle of the trailer hook has something to do with it?...
  11. More so now after reading this thread top to bottom...
  12. Navy put us up in a beach front condo (ok, technically we had to cross 90 and dodge the pickups with MAGA flags) but close enough, and a cocahoe with and without spinner is all I used to catch reds, trout, spanish and ladyfish out front, flounder in the marsh, and bass on base. Good design for open water and light cover, not so much if you are throwing it through stuff and going after them. The hook riding rigidly under the upper arm makes it less prone to snag. Am I the only one that throws a SB with no blades? Is it still a spinnerbait or a weedless swimjig at that point, or a hybrid? and do we need a technique name for it?
  13. The smaller the JB the faster I like the rod, but you can't go by the label on the rod, because there is no standard.
  14. I would go 6'6"-6'8" with a short butt. The working end won't be much shorter than a 7' rod with a "standard" length rod. There is a lot of preference involved of course, but I find that the tip down technique, plus the action one is trying to achieve makes shorter better. If you are fishing from the deck of a bass boat, a couple of extra inches usually work ok, but I find (specially in cold water) the shorter rod lends to a better lure action.
  15. Shhhhh. I just brought back a bunch from Gulfport. The newer ones are softer and have a bit more action the the originals, but they are a great bait, both the standard and the queen.
  16. I am so worried about you. Anything up your way? It's starting to happen here.
  17. Wind chill can help in moving heat around, but it cannot change the temperature at which water freezes which is 32f at 1 atmosphere. lake water actually freezes at a (slightly) lower temp do to it not being pure water. I had braid freezing a couple of weeks and getting stiff and sending "snow" flying in my face. The temperature where you were fishing was in all probability below freezing. That reminds me I need a jug or R-22.
  18. I give it a quick spin, if it obviously needs it (which is almost never the case) I'll lube it a touch, if not I'll fish it and service it in the off season.
  19. It won't affect anything as far as fishing, but if it bothers you exchange it. That looks like a couple are just a bit off. I wish my wife would let me leave things on the table...
  20. Tactically yes, intuitively no.
  21. Height + (freeboard-2) in inches. Of course there is the casting deck to cap coefficient adjustment, but that will get you close enough.
  22. If I catch a bass on my first cast, I throw all the bananas overboard and go home...
