  1. I'm backing away slowly while holding out a picture of my family...
  2. Can I play? I'm trying to learn how to fish a popper... ? I "borrowed" most of the feathered trebles for inline spinners this winter, gotta tie some at some point.
  3. Nope, while I used to be a math geek, I'm not doing anything like that to fill a reel. If you have 2 of the same reel (or 2 with the same size spool), just fill one with the working line first, then the backing, and then fill the one with the other, OR get one of those little line counters. We use them to set trolling lines.
  4. If it's a one time thing and you are an experienced driver with towing, yeah, as a regular thing, not a good idea, and if the route includes steep downhills or twisty roads then also no.
  5. I have never seen evidence that line visibility is a deterrent to LMB strikes in any water vis.
  6. I fish weightless flukes on 10 lb mono down to about 4 feet, I'll go to 10lb braid with a leader down to about 6 ft. If the fish are consistently deeper than that, I'll weigh them down, usually with a finishing nail. I like a round bend hook, so I usually don't go with a weighted EWG, but they work ok enough.
  7. I meant for him to go on Freaking Facebook, but that will work too....
  8. You got a new boat? Needs snakehead slime... Water warmed up to quickly for my liking this year, the 2 cold days did wonders for one outing this week, but the fish are already staging on nests and getting picky. Very different than last year.
  9. First top water of the year today. Got 4 on the large Boss Pop. I got a few skipping flukes and sub waking square bills yesterday, so I was pretty sure they would bite it. They were cornering gills and crayfish up against rocks in a small feeder creek hard, so I'll be bringing some pruners to get back there and combat flip to them tomorrow.
  10. It's a tad big but it will work. I go with a 1000 for braid and a 2500 for mono on a rod that size. Balance seems more important with spinning setups to me.
  11. 6.3 large reel. I don't C-rig nearly as much as I used to though.
  12. My favorite bait is the fish's favorite bait, and right now it's the square bill by a mile. Last year same areas, the chatter and swimbait were getting it done, I don't know why, Caught a few on a popper today. First top water for me this year.
  13. Latex, heels and fishnets?...
  14. Go on Mudhole or another building site and find someone local. Shipping all those rods doesn't make sense.
  15. It's not a bar near closing time. Sure females of all species select the most suitable mate, no matter what that may entail, but like the movie quote, if there is only one scrawny male around, he's like "so you are saying there is a chance?". And larger fish do produce more eggs, by virtue of their size, but they aren't rare because they are different, they are the rare because of statistics, picture it like the chances of a particular person winning the Lotto vs someone winning the Lotto, one is extremely not likely, the other is almost a certainty.
  16. A really thin and limp 10 lb mono is as high as I would go on a 2500 sized reel, similar 12 is pushing it, and will only work well for larger heavier baits that cast well.
  17. They make chatterbaits in other colors than GP/bluegillish?...
  18. Got her (them) yesterday for the first time this year. Everything came together and got size and numbers. big one a tad over 6, best 5 about 23 lbs, AND, an 8 or 9 lb Koi in the mouth with a square bill. (plus 3 pickerel and a giant crappie) I joked with my wife that if I died in my sleep, it was the greaper coming to claim my soul. Memorable day for sure.
  19. The week or 2 where the water temp rises above 50 and no longer drops into the 40s overnight, right until it does the same thing at 60.
  20. Why is Texas producing so many giant bass? I'm thinking it's all the people moving in from other states with folks who can fish.....
