A grub is a grub, and there is no difference or they are all the same? I can't get behind that. Just like paddle tails, they are all a little or a lot different, and most have a place and time where they work best. Some magnetic brake reels will do that sometimes. I have a couple of Daiwa made Cabela's reels that sound like the motorcycle in Bat out of Hell sometimes. A 7.1 Fuego does it intermittently too. Spool side play and moving parts in the brake seem to be the culprits, but I haven't found the specific actual cause. Doesn't seem to affect performance.

Way too many variables for an easy answer, but keep this in mind, fish will pull 180 degrees opposite the direction you are pulling, and they will stop pulling if you do. If the fish does jump, reduce pressure but keep a bend on the rod. With practice a fish can be kept from jumping a majority of the time. I find I loose more smaller fish than larger fish. Slower rods and mono help keep them pinned. I find most folks loose big fish due to inexperience, and/or excitement at hooking a large fish. I've been pin hooking since I was 14, and loosing fish, specially heavier ones is a no no.

I remember how confused all the information (good and bad) made me when all we had was books, magazines, a a couple of TV and radio sources. I am so glad we didn't have an InterWeb then. Get the 6.3 or 7.1. Don't get the 8.1.

For numbers, it's hard to beat a black Montana stonefly. For size a small streamer or clouser, and a popper is always good once the water gets into the mid to high 50s as it is in a lot of places right now.

I invented that. I also cut my road bike inner tubes and use those (like socks) on heavier rods. That self stick surgical/gauze tape works great too.

I prefer cork. Synthetics have gotten better in recent years.

Yeah, I'm not sure about an SV for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and other full sized baits. Skipping and pitching is where they are a plus. I don't use them because I find the bodies on most too small for my liking, but they do a good job with tiny baits.

Cheaper blades are usually thinner, thinner blades will start up faster, and will not unbalance at speed as much. They also tarnish easier, not necessarily a bad thing. A lightly buffed out tarnished copper blade is money at times. Not right now though, I can't catch a cold with a SB right now, very unusual for here this time a year.
