  1. Help with opening and or stocking a retention pond? Not sure they would do that even if they were in better financial shape.
  2. I fish my 6'10" MH SLX along my other frog rod. It will work ok, but will be underpowered in the real thick stuff. If it's mostly pads, and scattered or loose thin matts, should be fine. If one takes you way into some gnarly stuff, then you are going to have to go to it and hand line it. Some places I fish, I wouldn't think of it, and others it comes out first. It really depends. Usually, if I'm bringing 2-3x the weight of the fish in salad, It's the big guns.
  3. No, I meant all old guys should not fish alone, they should be supervised, or at least accompanied while raging. "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
  4. Same size, but assuming your current bearings are not worn or damaged, and they are clean and properly lubed, the performance improvement will be minimal, the decibels will show improvement.
  5. It has a flaw design that causes the paint to fail.
  6. If only they came with a button or knob that regulated the heat setting.... Yes, do not dry athletic shoes that will be used for their intended use. These will die from drowning long before they get heat stroke. Athletic shoes do not shrink from drying. Some do expand from being soaked somewhat, but will return to their original size. They make cycling shoes that you bake to size.
  7. Oh good, I was starting to worry... If you have a clothes drier dedicated to rough clothing, dog towels and the like, throw them in there after rinsing them out (with some odd and end dry things to keep them from bouncing around too much). You can also leave them out in the sun (bring them in before it rains) or on something warm and dry if you have something like that (not the oven). You can make a y split and put the shopvac in them, or get something like this: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/original-peet-dryer-7106996?cm_mmc=organic_feed-_-GoogleShopping-_-Product-_-7106996 Or you can fish everyday, and just get used to swishing around in them...
  8. If you are seeing a section of the line frayed, then it's not the lure. a 1/2 oz RES can load up a lot of pressure on a cast, so maybe that's why you aren't seeing the problem with soft plastics. There is most likely a problem with one of the guides, or the line was compromised in some other way. Tie a uni with 9 wraps, that isn't going to slip, but I'm not thinking the knot is the problem. Could be something else less obvious, but not likely. 7 out of 10? is the water deep? cold? long/lat #s?...
  9. I would suggest not doing it. But post a bottom view of the sole, and a sideview of the shoe, and we can take it from there if you'd like.
  10. My grandmother used to say "Mas sabe el Diablo por viejo que por Diablo" Didn't know what she meant, now I wish I didn't and was that age again...
  11. Yes, they will probably last at least that long, getting them dried off after each use will help.
  12. I wouldn't suggest it, but if I were to do it, I would first make the bottom one uniform surface by subtracting and/or adding material that the felt would adhere to (also needs to be flexible), then use a proper adhesive (do not inhale). Not worth the trouble, and unless done right, the felt will peal off in short order. And yes, using shoes not designed to be submarines will destroy them. If you get a wetsuit and wade up to your nipples, the weight on your feet will be greatly reduced. [cue Jesse Pinckman]
  13. IMNSHO glass rods are better suited for larger cranks, a composite or low modulus (try finding that in marketing lingo) graphite rod would be my choice for smaller baits. Also, not all glass rods are created eaqual, some are awesome, some are awful. and as far as withstanding bass, yeah, pretty much any rod will do that.
  14. I usually find the above a better option, I like a swim jig, spinnerbait and square bill. Of course catching one of the little boogers and dangling them out there can't be beat.
  15. LOL. You would think putting a little Ulta nail polish on the threads of a feathered treble was a felony. I'm hoping for an early parole...
  16. From the angler's perspective, most everything, from the fish's perspective not a darn thing.
  17. Before anyone can make a good recommendation, they would have to know more about what you consider universal or the like, as well as what lures you intend to primarily fish, and where, how and when you intend to do most of your fishing. Fishing from a bass boat, jon, canoe, that other pointy plastic thing, from shore in open areas, surrounded by growth, wading or not, etc, will all have an impact on what gear will be best suited. That having been said, if you are only going to have one BC outfit, and without knowing the above, I would recommend a 6'9" MH, not extreme in action rod with something in the high 6 or low 7 gear ratio reel. I'd look at a Falcon, but most brands will have something that will work.
  18. I haven't back reeled in over 3 years, and have no intention to in the future, even if chased by Zombies...
  19. If all your setups have braid, and you don't want to change, a mono leader will work, but poppers really want to be fished with straight mono. If you are walking or chugging, a split ring or snap might be ok, if you are going to really fish a popper, tie direct. I'd go with a longish 15 lb leader, and a short med rod were I in your case.
  20. You can do it either way, the hard part is doing both. I fish my BCs with very little braking of any kind, just because it's what I'm used to, if someone started out with newer reels, and that is how they learned, and what they are used to, then that is just as valid. Bass fishing seldom requires raw distance, like some other types of fishing, so added braking isn't an issue. If one desires, one can set up a reel with a particular bait to require little or no thumb, I just can't do it, too much muscle memory.
  21. The best way to spoil a BC is with fluorocarbon, [insert something about spare the rod here]...
