  1. I use a Big Game leader, Big Game line, and Big Game backing, I'm considering doing away with the knots between them...
  2. Yeah, every so often I catch a bass with a tail in it's mouth of a bass, usually about 1/4 it's size. I'm always looking down their throats to look for what they've been eating.
  3. I find I use my less sensitive rods when flogging Zombies...
  4. I gotta have a med BC on the boat at all times, Weightless plastics, treble hooked baits, poppers, finesse spinnerbaits and jigs, and that's just off the top of my head. Of course, I also have a MH on the deck. It's not a matter of one over the other.
  5. Maybe, I'm ready to blame the Chupacabra, or cicadas. We just got over 2" of rain in a little over an hour, let's see what does for tomorrow. Something is different, that's for sure.
  6. Interesting, I'm seeing very similar results here. Last year "Godzilla had nothin' on me!" I caught numbers and size from early March through early May (When I had to leave on mobilization) almost at will. This year, I've caught a bunch of non spawners and just a few real ones. Wish I could nail down why, but haven't come up with anything. Curious to see how the post spawn goes.
  7. Deep creek is tough on a one and done. Check your inbox.
  8. Ideal? I dunno, but when we were there we fished 18-60 feet and used 1/4- 1 1/2 oz.
  9. That's not a nice way to talk to one's oncologist...
  10. I mostly fish BG and Ande, and have for a very long time, so yeah, I can tell the Lb test by sight or feel for those.
  11. Fishing a large top water aggressively and stopping it over a large spawner is a thing, My favorite lure by far for that is a ********
  12. The price of a rod or reel, or where it sits on a manufacturer's tier, has no effect on how it will match up with it's counterpart as far as function. The one caveat I will mention is that a really light rod or reel will usually not match up well with a heavier one, as the current trend goes, weight does track with price (usually).
  13. We had a saying on the ship (cleaned up some) "That guy can make a project out of of standing in front of a urinal"...
  14. Just to be clear, you will need to put shoes or boots over the "booties" that are part of the waders, more like attached socks.
  15. As long as the power and action are adequate, salt in the fresh, or fresh in the salt is all good. I use my old flipping sticks as salt inshore sticks, and use some inshore sticks for large swimbaits and the like. One thing I will say is that most salt water sticks will be lacking in sensitivity for contact baits compared to decent bass rods made for the purpose.
  16. Landlocked striped bass behave much like the ocean run ones. They travel to headwaters in late winter early spring, then turn around and do the opposite. The best time to target them is when the water is cold, say mid 40s to mid 50s. They are cold water fish, and will seek deeper water in the warmer months. From shore, large minnow plugs, bucktails, and at time top waters will work well. Live or chunk bait are always a good choice. It doesn't apply to shore fishing, but trolling is also a very good way to get them. One of our charter captain buds moved near lake Wallenpaupauk from NYC, and he says it's no different than the ocean, though the locals do some strange things.
  17. Understanding that they are 2 separate hobbies is a good sign. A lot of folks can't make the distinction and hurt their catching as a result. Nothing wrong with tackle collecting, it just isn't a part of being success at fishing.
  18. Also, be careful not to bend or damage something when wrangling with the bearing retention pin.
  19. I'm gonna go with drowned in a spout.... Sorry. Spiderwire was one of those early lines that sounded like nails on a chalkboard, stealth came out to address this, but it doesn't brake in well and is stiffer than most. I hate how it casts. I have a bunch of it and use 65 and 80 for trolling.
  20. Red shad is a thing with a lot of baits. It gets bit.
  21. It's not as complicated as folks make it out to be. A jig is just a weighted hook. Pick the hook, heavy, light, something in between, a little longer, etc, then pick the weight to make it behave the way you want. As far as head shapes, you can narrow it down to 2 or 3 for all but the most niche presentations.
