  1. No telling without witnessing it, but It could be any of several things, or nothing at all, sometimes fish get off even if everything is done right. When a lipless dangles outside the mouth, it can work it's way free sometimes. Happens.
  2. Decent mass merchant rod in it's time, don't know anyone that fishes 80s and 130s other than some commercial guys anymore. That is a heavy outfit to go after anything other than giants. Unless one is going to be in a chair, or "fight" the fish from the holder, that's way overkill. I'd keep it as a wall decoration. Did anyone catch the Hemingway Series? "Hunting submarines" has become a joke between the Mrs and I.
  3. Yeah, I've had fish wrap me around wood pilings and concrete stanchions in the salt with BG, where the line was shredded but held. I have to chuckle when I see "fluoro for abrasion resistance" recommended here and elsewhere.
  4. Yeah, but they like pretty much anything.
  5. I only fish things I have the utmost confidence in, and I only bring things with me that I fish, so everything in the tackle bag. And I don't believe that "techniques" as defined by bass guys exist, so N/A on that one.
  6. My thought on the kick of a trailer on a chatter, is that I don't want the trailer to have one.
  7. I don't usually throw finesse in the wind. A swim jig with a small but aggressive trailer, small spinnerbait, or t-rig is were I'd be looking to start, but without knowing the specifics, there may be other options, like a swimbait, or wakebait.
  8. This was taken with a hidden camera at a popper urgent care clinic, classic injuries of abuse seen from poppers being forced to be tied to braid and snaps. Help stop popper trafficking...
  9. CXX is a bit stiffer, has less stretch, and is not quite as rugged, but the differences aren't huge.
  10. If a couple of guys from Sheepshead Bay blackfish boats show up at your door asking for the royalty vig, just hand it over.... That's how we've always done it. 60 BG is a b...
  11. Not so much from fishing, I wear different things, cycling jersey and shorts on the other hand line up in the same exact spot, farmers laugh at me. I've started wearing sun sleeves more in the last couple of years.
  12. No, they are both great hooks, I don't particularly like either for wacky, but they will work. Just choose one and go fishing.
  13. SSW and octopus hook are essentially the same hook by different manufacturers.
  14. Wood, followed by pads near a reed line, followed by a grass line, followed by wherever the fish are at, wait, reverse that...
  15. Yes, reel down most of the slack out and sweep, firm, but not exaggerated, like you see in the videos. Wacky rigging has an exposed hook, and it's usually not at a great distance, so no need to be heavy handed. Once you do, keep even tension on the fish with a good bend on the rod as you work it to you. You don't want the rod flailing around, and straightening out. I see this from a lot of newbs, and it's what causes most fish to get off.
  16. Owner SSW and Gammi Octopus are not circle hooks. Either will work ok for wacky rigging, but this is what you want. Set the hook, don't set the hook, as long as you keep the rod bent once its bent it's a done deal. If you are going to set it, a light sweep is all you need. https://www.gamakatsu.com/product/finesse-wide-gap/
  17. I wouldn't have guessed it...
  18. I don't even see color the same with either eye.
  19. The information is good, the article is awful, not to mention condescending. "surprised they could do science in 1937" really?
