  1. The standard Pop-R will work just fine. Sure, the hooks can be upgraded, the tail hook dressing changed to hackle, and the lower lip can be shaved or filed, but out of the package it will catch fish. Right now in Southern MD (banjo music playing in background while leering at sister) a semi steady blooping or head bopping with a slight pause or change of rhythm has been the ticket, nothing too aggressive, and certainly no popping.
  2. "I can't quit you!"...
  3. I'd fight pudgy Humpty Dumpty over Thomas Hearns any day.
  4. It's the spooling process. secure it to something, back it out and reel it back in, or just go fishing with it and make a couple of long casts.
  5. It is illegal to cast umbrellas in the salt (at least it should be).
  6. Oh yeah, live 20 minutes from a ramp on the Mattawoman, and 30 from Smallwood. I don't fish it as much as I used to, cause I remember when it was really good, and I have big fish closer by, but it's still a great fishery.
  7. I don't think there are many if any secret spots anymore. But one can certainly have some that seem that way, for a while anyway.
  8. I dislike fishing with braid, but in addition to my frog rod, I have a 10/10 braid to mono leader med spinning setup. Very versatile setup.
  9. Lures work or don't work in a particular body of water at a particular time for a bunch of different reasons.
  10. You are over thinking it. Sure, plastics are on average more expensive to fish than hard baits or wire baits, but neither will last forever. Things like poppers, spooks and other things not usually fished in cover can certainly last years, but jigs, spinnerbaits, and cranks will certainly succumb to wear and tear and other forms of early demise. Senkos bounce off boat hulls or pier pilings much better than hard baits. Not to mention that for those of us who fish around pike, pickerel and snakeheads, they help to close the price difference gap, a hook and a piece of plastic is what, maybe $2, vs $8-20 lure.
  11. [Feeling sad for the state of affairs emoji]
  12. I can see the thread now, "Caught this fish today, how much weight do I add to account for the meniscus"... Awesome smallie.
  13. LOL. When I was younger, I worked as a mate on a bluefish head boat, which had a nightly pool for biggest fish. Some nights we had over 50 people onboard, (that's a whole different story) it could be $200+. The "weigh in" was done with a balance beam, and sometimes it was so close that it barely tilted, and we had to reverse the fish. The winning fish was always gutted before handing over the ca$h.
  14. I am the next Ruck Clunn...
  15. Like those tiny 9mms, limp wrist...
  16. Dumb things are everywhere around here right now, don't recall having this many 17 years ago. Haven't seen an increase in the top water bite though.
  17. I need some help finding the secondary points on a retention pond in my neighborhood...
  18. Trolling an umbrella? Brilliant!...
