  1. I'm pretty sure 6 lb XL over tests, but I've done that several times over. Not really that impressive, Just find them in light cover.
  2. LOL. Only one way to find out. I'm going to be up in NJ for the fireworks, and BBQ.
  3. I show the 3 '73 triple crown races as motivation film. The Belmont margin of victory wasn't an inch over 30 lengths... I think the other 2 races while not as visually pleasing, were much more impressive. There is a horse that was wrong, and did everything wrong, except kick every other horse's butt. There will never be another one like Big Red.
  4. I've warmed up to the 110 and 75, but only under certain niche situations. Never got the hype, I'd rather throw a buzzbait day in and day out, and a popper is my favorite topwater, that and a spook, (plus a frog in the slop) and I'm set.
  5. If you are not considering braid at all, I'd stick to a good mono or copoly.
  6. I run #6 and #5 on poppers, and tie my own. I like the round bend Gammis, I don't even have to set the hook, just reel tight.
  7. Number 4 bearing in whole country. VERY NICE!
  8. Rub some wax (birthday candle or crayon works well) on the male end before putting rod together and snug tight, won't fly off and it will be easier to take apart. Learned it from the old surf rats.
  9. spinnerbait or other larger hook.
  10. exquisite or not, I will never ride a road bike with disc brakes on the road.
  11. I've been doing bikes for longer than I can remember, and I ride 3rd tier last years closeouts. I could easily call a Rep, and have him/her send the latest and greatest in my size and it would show up in the next shipment, we make them a lot of $.
  12. Epoxy will work, but if the tip needs to be replaced again the blank will have to be cut. Tip glue, which is similar to hot glue is inexpensive and the right thing to use.
  13. Got a 6' one from Wally's in maybe '06-'08 in California. I often bought rods and left them with someone where the Navy sent me (Port Hueneme in this case), I liked it so much, I got a rod tube from a local tackle shop and brought it back on the plane. Airline lost it, and was just about to file a claim, when about 3 weeks latter it shows up at my door. It is one of my favorite popper rods.
  14. Black sharpie will turn into (It's actually it all along) purple.
  15. Both reels acting up the same way at the same time leads me to believe it may not be a bearing issue.
  16. Adding length to the butt isn't very difficult. I do it pretty much for all my cranking rods, JBs ones on the other hand usually get the hacksaw
  17. I like the Black Max as a choice for a budget setup, ironically, I also tell folks to run away from the Silver Max as fast as they can.
  18. Yes. I fish with some 20 year old reels and some mid range and house brand sticks because I prefer them for certain things. I try the latest and greatest just to make sure I'm not missing out, I'm not. ps; You guys with the spreadsheets are scaring me. "proposed vacation combos" is particularly troubling...
  19. As long as the power, action and length are adequate, there is no reason a bass rod won't work well in the salt. A quick rinse with a garden hose at the end of the day is probably a good idea, though I seldom bother.
  20. I use the same heads I use for seatrout, mostly round heads.
  21. That was my first reaction as well.
