  1. I've read August is going to be an interesting month...
  2. Fish don't know when lures were manufactured. There are many very good older lures, as well as fantastic new ones, and they will all catch fish under the right conditions.
  3. There is a time and place for both. If I'm pausing a lot though, I probably want something other than a walking bait. Like most presentations there are many nuances to these baits.
  4. Same age as I was when I caught my first bass...
  5. They can’t be taken off like training wheels can...
  6. Gimmick. Will you catch fish with those hooks on a lure? Sure, but I don't see any plus side.
  7. Sharp hooks and little to no hookset. I'd go with a little longer maybe 12-15 lb mono leader with braid, which would not be my first choice for cranks. The rod, line, and hook (along with your hookset and fish fighting) are a system, it must all work together, but you can tweek it anywhere to make it work. I find that more times than not, bass aren't missing cranks, but rather turning away at the last moment when they don't come tight. How and where a bass is hooked with a crank gives great clues as to what and how they want it at a given day (or hour).
  8. Popper and spinnerbait, honorable mention to JBs and jigs.
  9. I like aluminum, I do like black and gold sometimes. A blade can be bent to rotate the other way. I tweek my blades so that one side is almost 90 degrees, and one is between 45 and 60 degrees, gets nice spitting gurgling thing going at varying speeds.
  10. Vehicle prices will not be coming down in any significant amount. I remember this happening at the turn of the decades between the 70's and 80s, back then $10k was the "shock". By the mid 80's prices had gone up even more. The inflation that is coming (already here actually) will exacerbate the effect.
  11. Knipex, or Channel Locks, and a gym membership... Good cutters are like seat belts, you don't need them, until you need them. We have to cut throughheavy salt water hooks, so we keep a good set onboard. ps: nice find on the Chub
  12. The larger Boss Pop and the Largest H20 will out fish all others under most conditions. Any Mega fan boys are invited to prove me wrong.
  13. Not sure why someone would seabass like that, but I'd go with braid (40 or 50) with a longish BG leader (30-40 lb) and a big enough sinker to do away with the bow, and the rod to handle the weight, oh, and a big cooler.
  14. I agree both that that reel will hold more like 65-70 yds of 20 lb BG, and that it is too small for what you are doing. It will work if you are not encountering anything that will require much line to be peeled out by the fish. 20 lb BG is strong enough to fish a really tight drag, so with a stick that can handle that stress, you'll be ok with most things inshore, but I find that real things usually bite when under gunned.
  15. Why are the keys always in the last place you look?... Cause why would you keep looking..
  16. Sweet Beaver in dirty Sanchez.
  17. Oh the irony...
  18. Releasing fish in LI should go over well...
  19. I can break it down to the penny, I'm on the supply side of the equation. Overhead is high for sure. That's why I work the deck and not run the boat.
  20. Oh man, I misread that title, I thought we were going to see some candid thong shots, darn!
  21. I thought those things were wise? Probably saw a lollipop up there...
  22. Over night tuna canyon run is 10 times that, Cha Ching!
