  1. Almost impossible to tell from that picture, and if indeed there is no brand, model, or other description on the rod or reel, chances are it's not from a major manufacturer, or NRX/Stella.
  2. Will you be fishing after Labor Day? I'd just match the shoes...
  3. Nice. You Honorary Meat Man certificate is in the mail.
  4. Yeah, it's been quite a few years since we've had ice this long, it's been almost 3 weeks. Fishing was good right before then. We have a running joke, if one of us kills the other, do the exact opposite of whatever that crazy kid did in Wisconsin, watching a lot of court tv in addition to binging a lot of things. Cabin fever to the max.
  5. I've been spending so much "quality time" with the wife lately, she's shopping for augers, and asking me "are you sure it's iced up" in the morning...
  6. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a Stretch 10. You haven't lived until you've pulled a Stretch 30. They are a pain to fish sometimes, but they catch fish of all types.
  7. He works at Tracker marine...
  8. How is that even possible. I hate using them, but they catch a lot of fish for me, even a few in VA...
  9. Yes, and no. Any variation in physiology, behavior, or disposition may or may not have a positive or negative impact on survival. A large fish has as much chance of being "smart" as "lucky". Given enough biomass, some will survive and most won't.
  10. Most of my JB fishing is relatively shallow. I use a 6'6" Med, fast BC with 10 or 12 lb mono, and a 6'6" Med spinning rod with 8 or 10 lb mono. For really small baits, I use one of my spinning crappie rods with either braid/leader or 6-8 lb mono. I sometimes go heavier on the BC rod for larger deeper baits, but that's not often.
  11. Look a little higher and to the right...
  12. I don't have a list of lures I won't use, or one of the lures that I have to have either. A lot of lures have counterparts from other manufacturers that will work just as well. Jigs and paddle tails on that list is a little scary though...
  13. Joe Rogan is doing electrical wiring now?...
  14. That's a rippling redfin... I'm thinking that is a 10, maybe 12.
  15. "Casting BFS into the wind" made my Sahara 1000 giggle...
  16. Not sure why one would require 2 lb test to catch shiners, but a bunch of folks make it. Ande Tournament is IGFA cert, so that will be fairly thin, and if you run across Moby Shiner, you can get your name in the National Geographic...
  17. Do you live down wind from Elizabeth?...
  18. They've become pretty much useless. Most reviews are from folks with an agenda, those who don't have a clue, cat ladies that just had Petco refuse their expired coupon, and everything in between...
  19. If I'm fishing it vertically, I just hold it in place. I'll give it a bit of slack, then slowly raise it sometimes, keeping the sinker on the bottom, or shake it, or tap the rod sometimes, but mostly just hold it there. When I'm casting it, I will let it soak for a bit, then lift the rod to move it about 2 feet, take up the slack, and repeat.
  20. Most of my medalists are JDM . I still commercial fish with a sidewinder. I fished with one of Babe Ruth's until it fell apart, the guy who owned it reminded me of you (maybe the other way around) I did it just to mess with him.
  21. I do tailor colors to time of year sometimes, but water clarity, light level, matching forage, and weather conditions take precedent. I do find that in some places where I fish a bright accent, be it red, orange, chart. or pink, will make a difference in the pre spawn.
  22. If God wanted us using antiques, he wouldn't have given us museums and glass cases... Please don't go to the Smithsonian and try to take a ride on one of the planes...
  23. That Trion is essentially a rebranded Pinnacle Extant. It WILL cast light lures well. Your issue was more likely rod and/or line selection, and/or spool bearing lube, cause it couldn't be operator error...
  24. You'll get it, it's not hard. I use 7 turns, and snug it tight, both the main and the tag, I started doing it this way for tapered fly leaders, and cut it flush, and I can't think of a time it's ever failed.
