  1. We moved from NYC to VA back in '98, only fished up that way maybe a dozen times a year since. Coincidentally, just got a text from my brother that his new fresh water buddies are going to school me on St Lawrence smallies in May, gonna be a good Christmas...
  2. Yes, came in 5" and 7"
  3. Take a razor blade, and cut that plastic spacer down, that baby colorado is lonely...
  4. Every so often, I fish with someone who starts with "I can't believe you are still fishing those, have you tried this and that with the blah, blah blah system..." Later on in the day it goes like "can I try one of those Long As?..."
  5. There used to be a kid in the neighborhood who rode his bike around with one training wheel...
  6. If you can find one, Gag's Mambo Minnow, shhhhh....
  7. I don't know about MN, but the old Rapala Yellow Perch color works well for me everywhere, whether there are perch in the lake or not.
  8. I would just use whatever this guy uses... https://www.outdoorlife.com/fishing/record-muskie-west-virginia/
  9. Thanks. That is what I read before we headed up there, hoped it had changed. I'm old enough to remember when that was the case in all of NY.
  10. Sounds like the spool isn't sitting properly, that or there is something really wrong. Take the spool off, inspect and reassemble. Or that
  11. TX passed a law banning the use of leaders when fishing with mono and fluoro?
  12. Many of those older spinning reels worked that way. Not so applicable to bass fishing, but us old surf guys took the bail out entirely on those. I still have a couple of retired green Penn 704s like that. I can close my eyes and still see 12 year old me walking into the tackle shop to buy my first one after saving my pennies over 3 years, I'd been fishing a South Bend knock off for a couple of years, that was still working, and held together by nothing but force of habit. Thanks for the memory.
  13. Amen.
  14. This ^. What I used to do is blue locktite the threads on the spool shaft, and allow to dry before inserting spool, now you'll be able to turn the knob between clicks, or disable the click if desired.
  15. Yes, fish sometimes key on a particular bait size and action, and sometimes that is bigger and louder. That being said, most times both (I think that is an arbitrary designation anyway) will work. I see it differently, you fish fast, you fish slow, you fish big baits, you fish small baits, You fish with heavy gear, you fish with light gear, you fish with spinning, you fish with BC, etc, etc, the goal is the same, present a lure to a fish so that it strikes it, method be darned, but then I always start with the goal being catch a fish. Crushed with a DIY mini-max bluegill(ish) chatter today.
  16. For bass or musky? For the latter, I've done well with my striped bass plugs (large JBs in LMB lingo) The Long A 16a, and the Luhr Jensen Javelin to name 2. Academy has some good somewhat smaller ones as well, I think they are 5" or 5.5"
  17. IPT is a function of gear ratio and spool diameter (as filled), so sometimes...
  18. The width does affect the delta of the IPT as the spool empties, the depth does not.
  19. If a HJ casted better, I'd probably marry one...
  20. Yup, this is how I do it too, except when I'm power hopping, or stroking a jig or heavy t-rig.
  21. cellphoneitis, it amazes me how folks can go though life like that. Very true, Until the 4th grade, I thought everyone remembered everything. In my next life, I don't want a photographic memory, much easier without it.
  22. Depends on the JB. I fish 2 BCs and one spinning. I don't find the rod requirements too demanding or specific, in fact my JB rods double for other things (or is it the other way around?). What I do find important is the length, both overall, and that of the handle. Oh, and seeing others bang fish, is no indication that a particular type of bait or presentation will work where you fish, though JBs work well in a lot of places.
