  1. Yeah, I unintentionally change the brake setting on some Daiwas when working JBs, and other similar things as well, no brand loyalty, so I just use a Shimano, or Pinnacle for those.
  2. I feel bad for the wives and GFs of guys who can't palm a 200 sized reel...
  3. As impressive as the Belmont was, I think his previous two Triple Crown races are just if not more impressive, Big Red is like "I'm just gonna break late, hang out back here 2 lengths behind the tail end, do everything wrong, then race up the middle of the track and win, ok?" And Ronnie is like, "sure boss". There will never be another horse like that.
  4. Most local branch managers won't let me fish in their bank cause they say hooks in the back of the head of folks in line waiting to open an account is bad for business, besides, never seem to catch anything there, now pawn shops and check cashing places, a lot more hooking going on near those...
  5. I remember seeing an Air Supply 8 track cheap at a yard sale, tell her I said hi...
  6. No circle hooks on lures for me.
  7. This^. Anything that obstructs the hook point from the fish's mouth is going to lower hookup ratio, and/or require stouter tackle and more robust hookset to compensate. If you are going to fish mixed cover and open water, then a weed guard is the way to go, if you are fishing open water exclusively, than no weed guard makes more sense, but most folks don't fish that very often.
  8. Yes, and yes. I save my "spent" t-rigged trick worms for wacky.
  9. I feel a "mastering a new technique this year" thread coming....
  10. I use the Booyahs quite a bit because they are cheap, work, and easy to find, but I'm not too concerned with the brand. Most of the bodies I get at fishing shows and flea markets, guys usually sell spinnerbaits for cheap there. On any spinnerbait, I either straighten out the blade loop, or clip it tight to the bend, and strip out all the components. I also like to wire on skirts made of tabs or strands, or slide on one of the all in one kind like SK, or ZMan. I go through a lot of skirts, cause a bunch of the places I fish have snakeheads and pickerel as well as bass.
  11. Looks good, I often start out with Stanley or Booyah spinnerbaits when making things up. I'm actually not a huge fan of the stock Stanley blade combinations, but I'm sure I might be more inclined if I lived further south. What is the deal with that band?
  12. Yes, a 150 or 200 sized reel matched to a 7'+ MH or H rod will work well. A Calcutta, Curado, or anything similar will work well, as will most mid priced rods. I like one of my furies as much (more actually) for inshore than bass. A 3000 sized reel with a M/MH 7' spinning outfit is good too.
  13. The digital guages dial up an RPM, not speed, the Yammis (at least the salt water ones) go down to 600, depending on the boat and setup, one will probably start having trouble maintaining heading below 800, dialing in the prop will help a bunch too.
  14. Zombies, the big one that got away, AND kayak fishing? Bingo! I will say that setting a hook in a yak is different, since you can only properly use your arms and shoulder, as opposed to whole body rotation as one can while fishing like a human, has nothing to do with the boat (I use the term loosely) moving around.
  15. Each time I read this I toggle between either you or I being confused...
  16. That would be some trick kinking the line in the same exact spots each time you backlash...
  17. X2. Save your pennies and get the Max, much better than the Endurance or most Dobyns.
  18. Vanish, as in the lure you are about to cast...
  19. Magic 8 ball says worn or cracked part #21.
  20. Generally speaking, yes, somewhere in the middle of the stated range, but weight is just one factor, the balance and aerodynamics of the lure has a lot to do with it, and as you alluded to, the casting ability and technique plays into it as well.
  21. LOL. I had to memorize the numbers on those "what number do you see?" circle dot vision tests. Saves me a lot of money on plastics though...
  22. Not here, here they are for poison ivy and kudzu to climb on.
