  1. Prefer to fish with my wife who is also my best friend...Plus...she is a very beautiful woman. Who wouldn't want that???
  2. 15-20 lb Big Game for most lakes around here. Occasionally will throw 50 lb braid around heavy pads and/or grass.
  3. Alex...68 years of rod building...you are THE MAN!!! I will keep your name close at hand when I make the plunge. I bet you have a wealth of information. How many rods do you estimate you have built?
  4. Thanks Tim. I have some thoughts on some different rods...as mentioned jerkbait and topwater, and also a crankbait rod. Saving money on the kit makes sense to me...I know the habit will more expensive than just buying a rod. However, If I do like it, I think there would be an overall feeling of satisfaction in using rods that I have built.
  5. Thanks Mike. I have done that, and to get started, the kit saves well over a hundred dollars. Then, I will have the tools, at least to start, to experiment with different blanks and components while having the necessary equipment to build. Having never built a rod, I am thinking I may just enjoy the process. I currently do not possess the knowledge to "know what I may or may not prefer" in a custom rod. I do know that I prefer a shorter handle for jerkbaits and topwater rods, but do not necessarily know which blank, which guides, which reel seats, etc I may prefer. I could just as easily spend the money on another rod, but I wouldn't be building it. I may buy the kit, build the rod, and think...this sucks...in which case I would still have the rod and re-sell the equipment. I guess the reasoning would be to try something new if that makes sense.
  6. Is there value in the purchase of the mudhole rod kits? I am looking at the bradley Roy 7'3" MH kit? Thanks for the help
  7. Thanks for posting Glenn. The further I get into fishing, the more I feel like I would rather "make my own"...rods, plastics, jigs & skirts, etc.
  8. Heartland, you are supremely talented. You do AWESOME work.
  9. I will try that MN Fisher. Thanks for all your help.
  10. Underjaw...sounds exactly like what is happening. Is there an adjustment that can be made to the trailer to allow for easier hook ups? I have tried to push the mechanism back, and yet it still will get stuck on the ball...like it is just sitting there but wont come down. I have not jumped up and down on the toyota highlander tow vehicle, nor the trailer yet. I have ALMOST succumbed to an idiotic fit of anger...almost. Just wanted to thank everybody who has chimed in. You guys and girls are the best.
  11. Thank you Bassh8er. I will try that technique.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. the hitch and ball are both 2 inch. The problem is when we try to lower the receiver down onto the ball, the receiver seems to get "stuck" on the ball. I have help from my wife so we are looking at the two items and they seem aligned perfectly, yet the receiver will not "slide" onto the ball?
  13. Jig man... I have done that. I also lubed the assembly in the above diagram. I think there is not enough "play" in the trailer assembly. I will work on that. Thanks so much MN Fisher for the diagram. Also, thanks to detroit1 for the words of encouragement. Anyone else care to chime in?
  14. Hi Guys. still fairly new to boats. I am having a really difficult time lowering the boat trailer down onto the ball of my hitch? does anyone have ideas, suggestions, helpful experience? I have the correct size ball, and at times the trailer loads perfectly. Other times, like this am, it takes 20-30 minutes to get the trailer to come down over the ball of the hitch? does the trailer have an adjustment? any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much.
  15. Great job. Looks like a fish catcher!
  16. Dude...you have mad skills!
  17. I throw the 5/8 ounce jointed black jitterbug during low light conditions, especially after dark. Very, very effective bait. I have also had really good success with the gizzard shad colored strike king jointed king shad. I dont have a black one, but I would bet money it is effective at night as well.
  18. Nice fish!
  19. try the booyah pad crasher jr. Smaller body with slightly lighter hooks. My wife was able to connect on more than a few occasions with 7 foot MH spinning rod with braid. I know you fish with mono, but the slightly lighter hooks should increase your hook ups. Let us know what your found that worked for you. Good luck.
  20. I just started airbrushing my own lures around Christmas so my experience level is novice, at best. I started with a "kit" which included three airbrushes and while they were ok, I upgraded to this airbrush about a month ago and the difference for me was night and day. The cost is more middle of the road, but the performance is elite. https://spraygunner.com/gsi-creos-mr-airbrush-procon-boy-ps-270-0-2mm-platinum/ The site is also first class. My first order they did not include some paints that I ordered. One email and two days later I had the missing items, plus some extras. Very good people to deal with. Good luck to you.
  21. Thank you.
