  1. I have the smoke in 6 lb. and have not had any issues.
  2. Original here as well.
  3. My biggest weakness is I can't seem to stop buying, selling, trading fishing gear including rods, reels, line, lures, and soft plastics. Is that wrong?
  4. I personally think best bang for your buck..if only buying new...is the bass pro Pro Qualifier baitcaster....on sale several times a year for 80 bucks. Spinning reels...lots of folks like the president...I prefer the shimano sahara...last years model is one sale at cabelas for 60 bucks. Cabelas also has pflueger president spinning reels for 40 bucks currently. You can find some REALLY good deals here in the flea market as well.
  5. I prefer a mix...depending on what type of presentations I will be fishing with. fishing from the bank, I like my 7' and longer rods for casting distance, but over the past summer really, really found myself using a cumara 6'9" reaction MH and a 6'8" mh crucial spinning more than just about anything. both very versatile and 'middle of the road' for me in the "length" debate.
  6. what are you planning on using it for? Also, what gear ratios are the Extreme and the Pflueger?
  7. Hooligan, I have not had MIke supertune any reels, but the difference it makes having him just clean and lube really improves the casting performance of my citicas.
  8. I have used both yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft #12 and berkley big game mono in 15 lb. and 20 lb. with good results with all three. I probably like the 20 lb. big game the best for spinnerbait fishing. Used it most of last summer with no issues at all, and the price is right.
  9. Rain shouldn't harm any of your gear. Be sure to dry everything when you get home. I have had the best luck with spinnerbaits. Good luck, and let us know how you do. I do my fishing on a lake. I am not sure what river you are fishing, but I would be sure to monitor the current if you are wading, and wear a PFD for safety reasons.
  10. I started about 6 years ago...my father-in-law passed away and he took my daughter fishing. I stepped up, bought a zebco 33 combo at walmart, took my daughter and we bought some tackle that a friend at work recommended and a BARBIE tackle box, and off we went. She soon lost interest, but I soon was hooked. She still goes with me a few times during the summer, but is more apt to sit on the bank and read a book. Key thing is she still goes with me. Did get a few really strange looks that first summer as I used that Barbie tackle box till I replaced it the next summer.
  11. Might I suggest sending Mike a PM here and asking him. I usually send him my reels in Jan or Feb and tell him no hurry, so I can't really give an accurate answer. However, I can attest to the quality of his work...outstanding.
  12. Thanks Nick. Best wishes to you as well!
  13. Good for you A-Jay. Please post pics so I can live vicariously through your adventures
  14. Nor I am, regarding the "match". I tend to be a skeptic, and therefore, you and I will have to agree to disagree. Best of luck to you as well. I certainly did not wish to ruffle any feathers. I have found your posts in the past to be well written and insightful. No hard feelings I hope.
  15. So, basically, because a bunch of people said it and wrote about it...it's true. Just spent some time on mgoblog.com, and even the Michigan fans on there can't agree on what happened. I am not a fan of the rumor bus...in any case.
  16. Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle just cleaned and repaired 3 MORE citicas for me. As always, his work is superior. The reels come back smooth as silk, and 100% cleaned. Well worth the cost of the repairs and cleaning. Thanks Mike.
  17. Cabelas has a nice rod sock...at least in my opinion, that comes with an adjustable "strap" made of stretchy nylon? cord. The socks are made to fit either spinning or casting I believe, but they stay on even when the wind is whipping. Plus, if you watch, you can purchase them at a sale price of 3.99 or 4.99 each. Normally they are 7.99. I use them on all my rods, and use the same reel covers you have pictured. they are fantastic. Good luck with your search. 18. Is this the continuation of another rumor, Or do have proof that this really happened...as stated???
  19. He said 2 Curados AND a chronarch! Thats how it happens...slowly at first, then momentum just takes over
  20. I am not an expert, by any stretch, however, I would guess that the majority of your pain comes from poor posture....most people I observe fishing are prone to extreme forward head posture, shoulders rolled forward...esp while retrieving, and forward lean at the waist. The core work you are doing will help..esp the lower back. rows will help with the pain between the shoulder blades and keeping your shoulders back. Stretching is always a good idea, and a good way to warm up. However, none of this will "cure" the pain if you continue to have this posture while fishing. Next time you are fishing and you start to feel this pain, STOP and observe your posture. I would venture a guess that you are doing all the above. Most people I observe, myself included, do the same thing. Standing upright with shoulders back, and your head back over your shoulders will most likely eliminate or at least lessen the pain very quickly. Good luck with this, whatever is causing your pain. Pain really stinks and takes the fun out of fishing...and everything else. If the pain continues, I recommend a visit to your doctor.
  21. I bank fish as well, but many of the spots I fish are near to very near where I park. I take sometimes as many as 8 rods, but will normally only take 3-4 to the spot. I also carry a tackle bag that has too much tackle, and it doubles as a place to lean my rods against.
  22. They actually come in 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, & 8 inch sizes. I have had the best luck with the white color in the 3.5 inch size. I fish them on a 1/4 ounce ball jighead with the hook exposed.
  23. Great day for you. Happy you had such a great time. Thanks for sharing the videos.
  24. don't really have a favorite. I like both spinning and casting. To me, there is something that is just intoxicating about fishing, the sound of the reel when casting, the feel of the bite, the explosion of a topwater bite, the 1000's of lures and techniques to try. That said, I probably get a bit more enjoyment out of landing a big fish on spinning tackle...7 ft medium cabelas xml, shimano stradic 2500, and yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft #6 is my preferred rig, with a shimano crucial 6'8" med x-tra fast is a very close second.
  25. Bud light...I do tend to overdo it though,,,I probably drink 8-10 beers ..........a year! I know, I know, I need to talk to someone about that, try to get control of myself
