  1. Was watching the coverage of Sabine River Elite BASS tournament on ESPN today. Did anyone else notice how Todd Faircloth had his swimming caffeine shad rigged? Was that just weeds on top of the bullet sinker he was using, or some secret the common folk don't know about??? It kinda looked like a "bowl-type" do-hickey??? Anyone see it??? Anyone know what gives???
  2. Maybe check into the campers meals from Mountain House and others. Many of them, you just heat up water and add to the package, and then they are good to go. I have had bacon and eggs meal and, although not as good as my wifes, I would be very happy with it after camping for a few days. Warning, they are somewhat expensive. But they pack easy, cook easy, and you eat right out of the package, so very little cleanup.
  3. I too can't say enough good things about the job Mike does. He supports the forums here, both with his sponsorship and also with his willingness to share his knowledge and give out "free advice" to any here who have a question regarding their equipment. He is a class guy to deal with all the way around.
  4. Lake fork tackle live magic shad in the 3.5 inch size, fished on a 1/4 ounce jighead...I have had really good success with this lure.
  5. I just like the fact that he just enjoys what he is doing...whether he is fishing, hosting his show, or hosting the bassmasters show. He just has fun, and I think that is great. I tend to be more serious, and wish oftentimes I was more "outgoing" and able to just have fun with different scenarios.
  6. I too bit the bullet and purchased the snip. Can't wait to try it out.
  7. Prayers for both you and your friend Josh, and Josh's wife and kids.
  8. Another option that goes unspoken for the most part...it is "easier" to cast getting the same distance with the upgraded bearings ( or cleaned and properly lubed bearings), so you have less wear and tear on your body...I have found the distance between me really trying to "bomb" a cast out there and a nice, evenly controlled cast is very little, but the effort is much greater, and the chance for a bird's nest is greater. Of course, maybe I am just getting old
  9. I had the best luck this past year with a Luck e strike stx in bone or pearl color, and a excaliber EEratic shad in same bone color.
  10. Anyone tried the biffle hardhead jig with any baits other than the biffle bug??? Results?
  11. I like the BPS flouro, but it has gotten too expensive..unless on sale. I also like the cabelas store brand flouro, and it is still much more reasonably priced...600 yards of 10 lb. for 27 dollars. BPS is 20 bucks for 200 yards.
  12. I fish them texas rigged weightless, but I use a 5/0 hook. I also use megastrike. I use the technique as described in the archived thread by RoadWarrior. I have never caught more fish in my life. A couple key things...SLOW DOWN...i actually count so I know I am not going to fast. Let the bait fall on slack line...very key IMO. Watch your line I fish from the bank and often catch fish after a boat or two has trolled down the same bank. I try to let the bait "fall" after lifting it as many times as possible after each cast each. I think the fall is what really triggers the bite....so the more times it falls, the more chances for a bite. I use yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft #6 most times, and have also used power pro in 20 lb...both on 7 foot medium power, fast action spinning rod with spinning reel.
  13. I read where Gary Klein recommends stopping your cast (with a spinning reel) with your hand just BEFORE the lure hits the water....then closing the bail by hand and ensuring the line is on the line roller. Stopping the lure just before it hits the water (at the reel with your hand) helps eliminate the problems discussed earlier regarding the inertia of the line coming off the spool. I do it, and have not noticed any twist. At least not nearly as much as before. Certainly worth a try.
  14. Does anyone believe that the design of the jighead adds to the baits action?
  15. Welcome Hobie. Thanks for supporting this site.
  16. Thanks for the info. I read where the design of the jighead is supposed to enhance the movement ot the bug itself. Looking at it, it kinda makes sense. However, I am aware that we fishermen are often as "caught" as the fish we chase
  17. Thanks for the feedback. Quillback...what size hardhead jig are you using? I bought some 5/16 and 7/16 to try out.
  18. I am not sure what Self does, but Kansas always seems to win those tough, close games...much to the chagrin of my Buckeyes! I do know they win several games by large margins as well...but they really do a good job of closing out those close games.
  19. Has anyone tried the "Biffle Buggin" technique with the Biffle hardhead jig and the Gene Larew Biffle Bug? I like the "loose" head on the football jig, and I am wondering if it will give soft plastics more action? Any suggestions/advice/experiences are welcomed.
  20. Raider, How did the appt. go today??? Hope you are feeling better.
  21. Mine also wakes only. Have had success just slowly retrieving it.
  22. a new tube of megastrike, a pack of caffiene shads in pearl color, and a pack of Gene Larew Biffle bugs in watermelon.
  23. Go to the Doctor! Why are you waiting? Even if it is just muscular, at least you will know what the problem is, and have a plan to help get better with physical therapy. Even if it is a disc, proper posture and a well planned therapy routine that you will be taught may reduce the problem and eliminate the pain. For your sake, and your family's sake, go to the doctor. I broke a vertabra in my back years ago...back pain is an awful thing. I would hate to see you injure yourself further.
  24. Most of the teams already named are probably "favorites". However, this year more so than those in recent years has seen litte difference between the top teams and those in the 20 to 40 rankings. Early on, Illinois went to Gonzaga and HANDLED the zags, yet they were 8-10 in the big ten. Miami crushes Duke, but loses at Wake Forest. Ohio State beats Indiana, at Indiana, yet gets blown out at Wisconsin...I mean blown off the court. I think it really is wide open this year. A couple teams I think will surprise ....georgetown. big time scorer, and they play great defense and rebound. Another is VCU...they play great defense, and then they play some more great defense, and they back that up by pressing and playing defense. They also play as hard, or harder, than any other team in the country. Lastly, I like how my Buckeyes finished the season. If they continue to defend and help D. Thomas with the scoring load...they are playing well at the right time of year.
  25. I use shimano citicas, and curado E5, E7, and 50E's. I have fished with many others including daiwa, BPS pro qualifier and prolite/carbonlites, quantum, pflueger, and abu garcia. Prefer shimano for many reasons, not the least of which is how they feel in my hand. I prefer shimano stradics in spinning gear, but have fished many of the others. I am not "set" on just fishing shimano, and look at other reels. Just have not found the right reel for the right deal to try anything else ...YET. As far as rods go, I have and use cabelas XML series, shimano cumara, crucial, and compre, St. croix avids, and powell max and endurance series. I like them all, but really favor the cumara series. Have not tried them yet, but am interested in the abu veritas and dobyns series rods. Again, right deal has not presented itself yet.
