I went out to a local smallmouth fishery with my girlfriend a few Sunday's ago. We only managed 3 fish on the day, but they were good ones. She got a solid 3lb'er (her first fish caught EVER!) and I bagged two 2lb'ers. One of the 2's and the 3 came off of beds, but there weren't many beds to begin with so I figured they'd be moving up soon. With that in mind I decided to make another trip this week and planned on Tuesday as the day. What an amazing decision that was!
I took my sister Amy and my friend Brian out (Brian had never caught a smallie...) and we hit the water for 6:30am. By 9:30am we already had a dozen fish in the boat, with the first fish coming on the first cast of the day. Lucky for us the smallies had moved up onto a crap load of new beds, and we had them AAAAALL to ourselves on this day. We lost count of fish caught, but a good estimate, and with no exaggeration, would be that we boated 60+ fish on the day between the 3 of us. All but one was caught on a Spot Remover 1/8 Pro Model paired with a Zoom Shakey Head worm in Green Pumpkin. The one rogue fish was caught on a Rapala X-Rap.
Size ranged anywhere from 1/2lb up to 3 1/2lbs, with a majority of them in the 2 - 3 1/2lb range. Would have been nice to bag a few huge ones but I'm not going to complain about losing count of 3 1/2lb smallies!
I also bagged a 5 1/2lb largemouth on a Yum Buzzfrog about a week ago. What a year it's been so far!
Leah's first smallie (gotta teach her how to hold em now!)

3 1/2 (just one of many!)

3lb'er
Brian with a red-eye smallie
Brian showing off a good 3+ smallie and Amy in the background with one to match! So many doubles caught, and even almost a triple!
Last but not least, my big fish this year, 5 1/2lbs even
Hope everyone else has been tearin em up lately!
PS. Don't know why those two show up sideways, my photobucket shows them being right-side up. Oh well...
