  1. Will that add a extra water splash or because it is clear the fish won't see it?
  2. I use my kayak to float down a river (about 2-3ft deep) and I was going to try a fly popper. I use a spinning rod with about 6-8lb test, and trying to throw it wasn't the greatest. It would only go about a few feet because it is so light. I did see some fish come up and look at it. If I could cast it closer to shore it would be a good bait. How can I get the lure farther?
  3. I know this is a old post but I was curious what size hooks did you prefer for rigging a 4" senko?
  4. I am headed to Destin Florida (vacation for a week) in a couple of days. I am thinking about taking my catfishing pole (heavy duty). I am going out in my kayak so not traveling to far. I am thinking about rying some ocean fishing but nothing extreme. What is a good lbs test I should put on the reel? Any certain good lures or bait to look at getting? I'm not looking for huge fish the size of my kayak. Just maybe redfish and type like that. What gear should I use? I'm guessing my plastic fish grabbers will be to light weight for a ocean fish. I know if I get shark on accident I am cutting the line, don't want to try and unhook him. I'm looking to catch the fish about the size of a bass or a little bigger. Any help is great.
  5. I am use to freshwater fishing with Bass, Catfish, and Crappie. I am going on vacation to Destin FL in Oct. I have fished off a pier before but curious about trying some ocean offshore fishing. I know you can do a Party Fishing Boat for about $70 for 4 hours or so and heard with those you catch a lot of smaller ocean fish, still big compared to freshwater fish. Or you can charter a boat for about $500+ for 4 hours. Which I have heard you will catch a bigger fish but it's usually one person reels in a catch and then the next person reels the next one. So in that look of things you might get to catch 2 fish and doesn't seem worth the price. What is others peoples thoughts on this? Have you done one or both and what would be the pros or cons or either?
  6. I went out 2 weeks ago and tried a smaller 1/0 hook and every hit I hooked and they didn't get off. The smaller hook helped. Thanks for the input.
  7. The fish is behind you when you toss the bait near a log and you float passed it and reel the bait so it stays close to log or rocks. Or if you see a fish swim by you and you try and throw the bait in front of him. And sometimes their is 2 spots that look good on opposite sides so you cast to one side in front of you then by the time you get the bait in you have floated down and you can throw it at your 4 or 7 o'clock so you can get another chance. If you drop a anchor in current isn't a good thing or put your paddle in the water to turn completely around you would have scared the fish away and might have floated to far down stream to throw back to that same spot. So a little toss at your 4 or 7 o'clock gives you a second chance at a spot as you move down the river. I caught one and 2 partial hooks that way. If I only cast straight ahead I would have missed those 3 hits. I don't throw directly behind me. Sometimes you throw it in a spot and to fish it slow enough to get a bite it might start in front of you and then be behind you as the current it pushing the kayak faster then the bait.
  8. I think a smaller hook and stronger hookset would work. The few that did make it to the kayak took a little more effort to get the hook out. So the others might have been hooked but not enough to get past the barb. If the fish was behind me then a sweeping and if I waa facing them 10 or 2 upward so it would hit the side of their mouth and not just pull it out of their mouth
  9. I am not the greatest fisherman. I was curious what I can do to improve getting the fish to the kayak. I was on a small river today using a 3" senko and figured I would try out Wacky Worm fishing. I started with a weedless 2/O and seemed to getting bites but not hooking them. I ripped off the weedless wire. I started to get more hook sets. But for some reason a lot of them would jump out of the water or as soon as I raised them out of the water they would pop off the hook. These were about 12" or smaller bass, so I was only using 6lbs test which was holding up good. My question is why were they getting off the hook after I was feeling them in? When wacky do I need to reel faster keeping more pressure, using a smaller hook (1/O?), or what causes them to get free?
  10. I think Bass Pro and Academy Sports has a timer switch. One thing to remember about the live well during the summer is it will start to get warmer and dirty from the fish so it's good to have it add fresh water every so often.
  11. I was curious about adding scents to bags. I had a couple of bags that popped open and the juice leaked out and I was curious about adding a scent or oil to them in a freezer bag. Is it better to add a spray scent or to add salt or coffee grounds to the bag?
  12. My dad has a runabout boat that he said when he puts it in reverse the boat shakes real bad. It just started doing this. He has a VA 350 engine to a mercuriser outdrive so it's a inboard outboard style like most boats. What could be causing this issue?
  13. Does anyone have a backup camera on their bigger trucks to help guide you to the trailer hitch or backing up smaller trailers? I got a new work truck that is a Ford F-450 with a solid headache rack on the bed so you can't see anything behind you only through the side mirrors. Sometimes for work I tow small trailers that makes it hard to backup because you can't see them until they are already turning quickly. And you have to get out and keep re checking as you backup to hookup to a trailer. I was curious if the backup cameras are any good or getting better with technology.
  14. Silicone, get some waterproof silicone caulking. There is marine grade. Make sure everything is dry and you can put it all around and cover the head. When it cures it is waterproof and water tight. No water can get it. It isn't to hard to peel off if you need to unscrew. I usually drill the pilot hole, put a dap of silicone in it and screw the transducer tight then cover the screw area. Then its watertight.
  15. I have a 1978 115 HP Evinrude and I have the chance to get a 1984 150 HP Johnson for free or very cheap. I was curious on what percentage of the parts can be swap from the 150HP to the 115HP. The 150HP probably has bad cylinders but would the lower units match up and trim parts and other little things work? My engine is fine but if I could get a parts engine free or cheap its hard to pass up. I know some different models match up certain parts but wasn't sure about this. Any info would be great. Thank you.
