  1. Congrats man!! You picked up a nice truck. I just got myself a truck too a couple months ago. 07 Isuzu i290 AKA Chevy Colorado. Isuzu came with the better warranty! It's the first automobile I've ever bought myself that I really enjoy and that is nice.
  2. I was looking on Ebay at some reels, and the picture kinda caught me off guard. Funny stuff I think http://cgi.ebay.com/AMBASSADEUR-6000-BAITCASTING-REEL-ABU-GARCIA-brand-new_W0QQitemZ320155800931QQihZ011QQcategoryZ108153QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  3. Ok, so my wife has been asking me questions, and I need a answer to tell her. When she watches me fish and I catch one she feels bad about me hooking them in the lip because she thinks its causing "horrible pain" to the fish, and the holes the hooks sometimes create near the lips grow back right? I remember reading somewhere fish don't have a lot of feeling near the mouth area and the hooks don't cause nothing more than discomfort, and the membrane(?) material that rips from the hooks grow back. But she's not taking my word for it. Anyone know for sure??
  4. Yep, avoid the cheapo spinners. Wal-Mart has these "special" spinners on a sale for a dollar each.....yeah...avoid them. Mine came apart on the 3rd cast, and I've yet to get a hit on one. I spent a little money and bought one for about 6 bucks and got a couple fish on it - a couple one pounders. My confidence in spinners isn't to high right now, but I'll keep practicing. If you don't have a fishing buddy to show you how he or shes uses them, just try different speeds and techniques yourself. Just remember, be patient!
  5. Good question! I was wondering the same thing. I had planned on hitting up some yard sales this weekend hoping to find some fishing stuff, and was curious as to what to avoid when it comes to the condition of soft baits. :-?
  6. That's even better. We FALL every IQ test. ;D lol good catch!!! ;D
  7. ;D When I hear that America falls almost every year in IQ tests compared with other countries, I always had some doubt....After reading some of these reviews..... knot enymore
  8. Bam!!! another one!! Good stuff....That's the second joke this week. Hope this continues. ;D
  9. Welcome aboard!!! Tons of info. and endless amounts of knowledge from our fellow board members. It's the friendliest board I've ever been to. 8-)
  10. Me and a buddy picked these up a couple weeks ago... I got one thats all red and black, and my buddy got a blue and black. Outcome: Red and Black (Not one single bite or hit) Blue and Black (3 fish in about half an hour). I just don't have good luck with these red colors and/or bleeding baits. :-/
  11. Hello and welcome to the board!!! I'm new to fishing myself about 2 months now, and you will find these boards have TONS to offer. Again, welcome to the wonderful world of fishing! 8-)
  12. I'm a Kasey Kahne fan, and its been a rough year :-/ My wife and her family are Jr fans. I don't hate Jr, but I don't like him either. Seems like NASCAR has just really gone down hill this year, at least football season is back...Here We Go Steelers Here We GO!!!!
  13. Ok, just wanted to poll real quick to make myself feel better How long did it take everyone to be able to tie their knots pretty fast? I started fishing a little over a month ago, and I've finally learned to tie my improved clinch knot just right, but sometimes I'm sitting their for a couple minutes sometimes fighting with this thing. I got big hands which don't help, and I always have a slight shake in my hands for some reason which makes it worse. It's embarrassing when fishing with other people and we are all switching baits, and they already have their bait casting and I'm still tying my knot. Please tell me I'm not the only one :-[
  14. ;D I actually laughed out loud on that one....Good one 8-)
  15. I've had some success with corn. I always chum the area with corn about 10 minutes prior to putting my line in.
  16. Last weekend while shopping for some bait, I picked up a green jig with the bleeding skirt, and a black spinner bait with a similar skirt as well. I've heard bass are attracted to bleeding bait as it makes them appear wounded, but out of everything I tried, I had no success with either of those. My worms worked, my buzz bait worked, my soft minnows worked (very well), but my 'bleeding' bait didn't even get a bite. Maybe it was just the bass that was in the pond, or are the bleeding baits just hype? Anyone else have good luck with these?
  17. Yeah I had a day like that this past weekend. For two days straight I caught about 20 fish. Come Monday......a little dink. :-/ I don't mind sometimes, cause when out of nowhere you do get a bite it makes it all worth it.
  18. Yeah I had my needle nose with me, but the putting the needlenose in and pushing back to the tail, the barb was catching the insides and it looked like I was going to gut him. Rookie mistake and I panicked cause I didn't have my fishing buddy with me, I realize now I should of just kept him instead of putting him back to suffer :-/ Oh well, I had a great weekend
  19. Ok, well I've been fishing this private pond on a farm the past couple weeks. This labor day weekend, all in all I've caught about 20+ largemouth bass. Most under a pound, a couple 1-2 pounders. This past Friday night me and a buddy ran snuck out of the house (we were supposed to be moving furniture for the ladies ) ;D to sneak in about 15 mins. Well, just as we were about to wrap it up, I cast one final time. It was a green worm with pumpkin coloring t-rigged. I'm reeling it in, about 8 feet from reading the shoreline, when I felt a bite. So I set the hook, then BAM!!! Holy cow, this guy took off and was taking my line with him. So the battle began. In my mind I was thinking, "Wow, I think I finally got a big one!!!". After about 45 seconds, I get him into shallow water and reach to grab him. He was fighting the whole time. I stood there with my heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, and I am just awed by the size compared to those other little fish. While holding him, I got the hook out then all of a sudden he started fighting again and it startled me, and he slipped from my hands and back into the water he went. My friend estimated he was between 6-7 pounds. Figures neither of us had a camera or cell phone. Now we have just a story to tell. But, I finally caught my first nice big largemouth bass and it was amazing. It was such a rush!!! Sunday, I gut hooked a nice two pounder on a artificial minnow bait, and had no choice but to leave it in, so I cut the line. So I had that as a first too, and I felt pretty bad about it. :'( But other than that I had a great weekend of fishing. Just wanted to share my story.
  20. I've been fishing for a month now (I'm 25). I started out on a small pond on a farm which I still love fishing, in fact I'm learned a TON from this pond. It pretty small, and has quite a bit of bass. I catch multiple fish every time, might take an hour or so but they start biting. It great to try different baits, techniques, setting my drag, and etc... I've done a little fishing from the shore on the beach, and some fishing for catfish and carp at a canal. I know it's not a lot, but its a start, and every time I go fishing I have a blast and learn boat loads. I can't wait to get on a boat and fish!! To date I've learned the most from - Experience (practice, practice, practice) my only fishing buddy at the moment which is my brother in law, and this website and forum. I did however pick up the KISS Guide to Fishing last weekend, and it was a decent read talking about buying the right reel, rod, knots and etc.....But I believe the best way to learn is trial and error. Besides you have a blast doing it. I am going back to the farm for 3 days this weekend, and its all I think about. I know there has to be some 4-5 pounders in there!!! Plus, I gonna try some night time fishing!!
  21. I fished a small pond on a farm over the weekend, and the water level dropped about 3-4 inches since I was there about 3 weeks ago. They haven't had rain in over a month. Anyway, started fishing around 6pm, and just a couple nibbles, but nothing. As the sun starting going down around 7pm, and those little bugs started hitting the water surface a lot of small bass were right near the edge in the weeds about 3-4 feet in front of us. The larger bass were closer to the middle about 10-20 feet from the shore. A lot of them would hit it, but never take it. I caught three bass in about 30 minutes, all a little over a pound or so. Spinnerbaits weren't working, so I switched to a pumpkin colored worm, and got some action. If was about 101 that day too.
  22. Oh man, I was so excited yesterday walking down to our pond/canal thing. The weather was 78 degrees, a nice wind, and overall beautiful day. I bought myself some plastic worms and lizards, I got some spinnerbait...I was certain I would catch something. I start off with spinnerbait, and after about half hour nothing, so I switch over to my slow plastics thinking the fish may be a little lazy today. An hour of that....Nothing....not even a sign. Until the turtles arrived. Must of been about 15 of them. Everywhere I went they would follow. > And to make it worse, the wind picks up as soon as I get there to about 15 mph, and casting these light baits was a nightmare. I'm new to this, and I am learning to fish myself which makes it worse. So after becoming frustrated and trying to keep my cool and hopes up, I walked all the way to the other side and cast there, and wound up with a birds nest. At that point I hung my head in defeat and walked home wounded. I've been fishing this pond for weeks, and I'm not getting anything at all. I'm starting to wonder if there is even anything in it. :-/ Anyone else ever have days like this??? Here's a picture of it.
  23. Agreed! I was one of those guys. Growing up I spent most of my time glued to the tv and playing video games. When I got into my teen years all we did was hang out at the mall or friends houses and just get wasted. When I was in my early twenties, the same thing, just lounge around and play video games, movies, pretty much waste my life. I'm now twenty five and this has been my turn around year. It all started with losing weight and getting healthy, that I came to love the outdoors. While running early in the mornings outside watching the sun rise it was beautiful. After going fishing for the first time ever a month ago there was just something so peaceful about it. Now you can't keep me in the house half the time. I am going to try my best to expose my children to the outdoors, before they waste most of the life like I did mine.
  24. Nah it's not really a canal, I'm not sure what to call it. If you look in the map, around the Greenbriar area and locate the residential area called Mill Lake that's it.....I actually purchased a ADC map book this morning, along with the Virginia wildlife guide to fresh and salt water fishing. These should help a lot. Thanks for all the welcomes!!
  25. Aw man, I feel your pain. We detail cars for 10 hours a day in this small metal building which just absorbs heat, and all we got is 2 fans and a water cooler. :-?
