I plan on fishing in the Radford area of the New River this coming w/e. I see the river status here: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/va/nwis/uv/?site_no=03171000&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 I know that to be a bit low. I plan on launching at Riverview Park, just off W.Main Street. I have an outboard jet boat. My questions: Will I be able to go upstream above that first island? If so, is there a prefered side/chute? How far downstream will I be able to go and still make it back upstream to the boat ramp? Thanks a ton. I'm coming from out of town and it's a bit of a haul down to there. My other alternative is the ramp at Whitethorne. If any one can tell me how much water I can roam down there I'd also appreciate it. I know I'm asking for quite a bit. Ed

I caught that musky on a Mania Magic Maker, firetiger in color, walkin' the dog retrieve. It's a good lure.

That musky was a memorable fish. It was the first fish caught in my new boat, and, netted by my 80 year old Dad that was visiting from PA. He doesn't fish. I used to drag him out when I was young, but he tried his best on that day. About 10 minutes before we got the musky, he said "Com'on, I want to see what a musky looks like." He saw it....43" and 21 lbs.

Baron: I was at Chaumont this w/e also (Th/Fr/Sa). Luckily I didn't see too many of the 200 tournament guys. ..at least that's how many boats were in it according to a guy staying at the Guffin Bay Resort. (my report coming soon)>

I fish Triadelphia a lot. The last three outings I had hardly any luck with plastics. I did do fairly well trolling deep-diving cranks like shad-raps, over deep water. Like 30-35 feet. I also caught white perch doing this. Perhaps the bass lie under the white perch looking for easy pickin's.

Has anyone been fishing Chaumont Bay lately?? I'm heading up there for the first time and can't wait for the trip. We'll be targeting SM and LM, but would also like to happen upon some walleye. Any recent history or tips would be great. I'll even take some GPS positions if you're really kind.

I hit Triadelphia on Saturday. I fished from about 6:30 AM until about 11:00 AM. It was very calm with the reservoir being quite flat. The water was a bit discolored. The level is about 8'-10' below the 'normal' level. I caught three largemouth bass, the biggest about 16"...two on drop shotted Zoom Tiny Fluke (baitfish color) and the other on a Bomber Square-A, crayfish color. There were quite a few boats. The lot was full, and folks were in the overflow. Did anyone ever hear the real reason my the Howard County ramps are closed?? This was my first attempt at drop shotting. I used 1/4 oz weights, and Owner Mosquito 1/0 hooks. I fished the lure about 15"-18" above the weight. I use a lot of plastics..like crayfish and worms, with Carolina rigging. It was a bit odd doing drop shotting. I tried to be deliberate, trying to picture the lure under the water as I tried to entice the fish. I might try a heavier weight next time since it seems tough to sense hitting the bottom. Or perhaps its the size of my plastic distracting from the feeling. Oh, and I lost a decent fish when he took the bait and I broke the line setting the hook. I can't remember the last time this happened to me with the Carolina rig. Maybe I got the palomar knot not pulled tightly correctly. I've read where it's the strongest knot. It did appear that the line broke at the hook. Maybe the fish had the lure deep the line broke on it's mouth? ..not sure.

I'm heading out to Triadelphia tomorrow. Anyone been there lately?

You guys are makin' me homesick. I grew up in South Scranton...moved to Elmhurst later. I lived in both places for 30 years prior to moving to Maryland. I had a boat up at Lake Ontario and spent a lot of time up in the Oswego, Pulaski, Fairhaven area. While at home, I fished Prompton, Wallenpaupack, the Susky, Lake Henry, and most other lakes.

I just wanted to say "Hi". I just found this forum and it looks like it can be very informative. I mainly fish in central Maryland...Triadelphia, Little Seneca, Piney Run, and some stretches of the Potomac. I have a 14' aluminum converted to a small bass-boat. I have a few questions if anyone cares to answer. 1) When it gets warm..mid-summer, how deep do you try for largemouth? Triadelphia is about 35'-40' at the deep end where I fish, but I wouldn't think they'd be that deep. 2) Any summer pattern hints for smallmouth, largemouth, and walleye in Triadelphia/Rocky Gorge? 3) In those extremely slow areas of the Potomac, is it worth trying for largemouth there? I don't see a lot of structure (wood, etc). 4) Where can I find some info on those resevoir-rigged electric motors? Thanks!!
