  1. I agree with al of that but.... Ther is a nother time frame to consider. 10:pm-2:00Am has produced a lot of big bass for me. The rest of RW post is dead on.
  2. Most calculators are good for small to big but are poor for realy huge bass. I am suprised that it was so close to your 14. once you get over 16 the caculators are usualy off by pounds not ounces
  3. Wow I just realized I had a bunch of PM's. I apologize for taking so long to repsond. I might have responded before and now just responed twice. I am not sure. But for those of you who I just now answered you questions I am sorry. I have frogot to check the PM's :-[
  4. I completly agree with you. Now if can use that info on the water you can catch big bass.
  5. Only one of those is private. All the rest are posibly the most presured lakes in the country. The one "private" lake Mike fishes is Mission Viejo. He Is not a member. he only gets to go there as a guest. But just so you know that one "private lake " gets a ton of pressure. There are several guides and many members who beat it to death. This is not your typical "private" lake. But Mike also ownes most of the lake records from the public So Cal lakes. ALL records were caught on open days right there with the hundreds of other guys on the water. There is no shooting fish in a barrel, or bucks!
  6. Notice I said documented not certifeid. There is a diference. There is a big long article that goes with the list. I do not about the florida bass but I can remember just about all the cali catche from the last 10 years. If you would like to read the entire article I would be happy to send it to you. It explains about the list. Those other two list are WAY outdated.
  7. There have been 2 caught in the last couple years over 20 and a few more that were close. Here is the whole list. This list is comprised of documented fish over 16lbs and was printed in Bass West magazine. Table 1: All-Time Largest Documented Bass NOTICE HOW MANY TIMES YOU SEE MIKE LONG!!!!! also note that he has caught several more that are not on this list including a 19.2 and a 17.2 from 2005 and a 16 !/2 lber from a few weeks ago. 8. Triton Mike You are correct. Monte kept asking Mike about the other anglers trying to invent fueds and dig up dirt. Mike took him back to the dock. I know a lot of the guys he talks about in the book and I think Monte did a good job discribing them with the exception of the chapter"the San Diego zoo" where he makes Mike look kind bad. Other than that the book is a great read and I was unable to put it down until I finished it. It is a good insight to how obsessed these guys are.
  9. Thats an old list. This one is more curent but still not up to date. Mike Long has another one on it. A 19.2 caught last year. so that makes 3 for him 1 22.25 Montgomery Lake Georgia George Perry 6/2/32 2 22.01 Lake Castaic California Bob Crupi 3/12/91 3 21.75 Lake Castaic California Mike Arujo 3/5/91 4 21.70 Dixon Reservoir California Jed Dickerson 5/31/03 5 21.19 Lake Casitas California Ray Easley 3/4/80 6 21.01 Lake Castaic California Bob Crupi 3/9/90 7 20.94 Lake Miramar California David Zimerlee 6/23/73 8 20.86 Lake Castaic California Leo Torres 2/4/90 9 20.75 Dixon Reservoir California Mike Long 4/27/01 10 20.25 Lake Hodges California Gene Dupras 5/30/85 10 20.25 Lake Miramar California Johnny Garduno 3/25/90 12 20.13 Big Fish Lake Florida Fritz Friebel May 1923 13 19.88 Dixon Reservoir California Mike Long 2004 14 19.63 Lake Baccarac Mexico Bruce Knutsen 1/17/93 15 19.50 Lake Miramar California Keith Gunsauls 3/7/88 15 19.50 Lake Casitas California Randy Crabtree 4/9/02 15 19.50 Dixon Reservoir California Mac Weakley 5/20/03 18 19.40 Ikehara Dam Japan Kazuya Shimada 4/22/03 19 19.25 Lake Miramar California Chris Brandt 3/22/98 20 19.19 Lake Wohlford California Steve Beasley 2/3/86 20 19.19 Lake Morena California Ardon Hanline 2/17/87 22 19.06 Lake Miramar California Sandy DeFresco 3/14/88 23 19.04 Lake Castaic California Danny Kadota 1/8/89 24 19.03 Success Lake California Larry Kerns 1/27/01 25 19.00 Lake Tarpon Florida Riley Witt 6/21/61
  10. Just so you guy know Cali would still produce 20lbers if not for the trout. How do I know this? Because the lake record from Hodges is over 20 and they have never stocked trout in there. Obviously they help produce more big fish but there are a lot more factors invovlved . The quote you got about the bass being fed is a ranger being asked about the huge fish that were coming from Dixon. He is hamming it up for the interview. Roger is right. The trout are there for all the trout people to come catch some fish. They create most of the fishing revinue. You guy should look at the 24lber Duclos caught. It is real! the reason it is not recognized as the record is because it was weighed on a bathroom scale not because he didnt catch it. The IGFA requires that it be weighed on a certaified scale so there is no way they could accept it. That fish looks every bit of 24 lbs and unless that scale was off was the biggest bass ever caught.
  11. Perry's fish was way longer and fatter! It wasnt just longer. It could be off by a little but thats not a little. Perry's fish should have been at least 25lbs.
  12. Rattletrap. I am not wrong about the measure ments not adding up. Here are some numbers for you. George Perrry 22 lbs. 4 ounces Length: 32.5 inches Girth 28.5 inches Mike Long 20 lbs. 12 ounces Length: 27 inches Girth: 27 inches Jed Dickerson 21.11.2 lbs. Length: 28 1/2 inches long Girth: 26 3/4 inches These are the largest bass that I could find measurements and weight for. first compare Dickersons bass to Long's Dickersons bass is an 1 1/2 in longer and 1/4 in less in girth and the diference in weight is about 1 pound. Now compare Dickersons fish to Perry's Perr'ys fish was 4INCHES LONGER!!!!!!!! LET ME REPEAT THAT 4 INCHES LONGER!!!!! ok now look at the girth.........ok it is 1 3/4 in fatter........... So lets get this straight. Perry's fish is 4 inches longer and 1 3/4in fatter. but it only weighs 1/2 lb more? To me this is the most obvious proof that the record is a hoax. BTW bass weight calculators are never accurate through the intire range of bass weights. They are usualy good at fish under 10 lbs and become less accurate as the fish get bigger. Now do you see why Perr'ys fish should have weighed at least 25lbs
  13. Most people DO NOT BELIEVE IT. They just accept it. Ask fisherman from anywhare other than Georgia or Florida and you will see that most think it is fake. Here is another interesting note for you Perry supporters. Ray Scott the founder of BASS sent a reporter to interview Perry and administer a polygraph test. HMMM I wonder why Ray would do such a thing? Well geuss what. The interview was given but the the lie detector test was not. HMMMMMMMM. Imagin that. The biggest discrepency is the actual mesurments that Perry gave. Compared to actual documented fish of similar size Perrys fish should have weighed over 25Lbs. The numbers dont add up. Perrys partner was never found or interveiwed. To say that he had nothing to gain is flat out wrong. He also won the contest again with a fish he claimed to be nearly 14lbs wich he not only photographed he had it mounted too. The fish looks no whare near 14lbs. People will get upset and say negative things about anybody who challenges the validity of the record. They like the Idea of it coming from their state or that it has lasted for so long. I used to believe it until I became realy interested in it. I read every article I could find and sadly after a while I changed my opinion on it. I honestly believe that anybody who investigates it with an open mind will come to the same conclusion.
  14. Mattfly Texas definatley puts out tons of big bass. I think even more than Cali but there have been some monsters caught already this year. Mike Long has caught a 16 1/2 a few weeks ago and last week caught a 14 1/2 and a 5lber on one cast. There have also been a bunch between 10-13 through out the state. Props to Texas for their share a lunker program. It is the best thing going. I wish Ca. did something similar. The record probably would have been broken by now if our state was run by you guys. I would love to see it broke in Ca or TX
  15. MattFly I actualy agree with you on some things but you are dead wrong on others. First M long has caught most of his big fish on swimbaits not on beds. Yes a few came off beds but not most. He catches them all year long. Now In my opinion Trophy hunting is just as dificult as tourny fishing. Not the same but eaqual. Mike is hands down the best on the planit at one of them and very good at another. Thats why he is the best bass fisherman alive. My mother liver in Tyler Texas so I know how much they all love Yelas but he still learned to fish out here and then moved out there. How many Texas guys were actualy born there? Texas is centeraly located. Thats why so many pros move there. It is ignorant to say that east is beter than west or west beter than east. They both have studs. You are absoluty corect about why BASS doesnt come out to Cali. We just dont have big enough lakes or Parking lots. It is posible but it would be dificult for a lot of huge events. If they did have big T's out here in Cali the rest of the country would not do very well at first. Over time they would adapt and be competative. The lakes are just diferent than most of the country. I listened to Rojas give a seminar about the diferences and he said he he struggled at first because the lakes were so diferent that it took him a while to figure out. Right now I think the 2 best T guys are KVD#1 and Aaron #2 and Aaron moved away.
  16. Most of the great tounament fisherman that learned or started out here in Cali move to be closer to the tournaments. Some of the best ones like Aaron Martins Dean Rojas Gary klein and Jay Yellas were either from hear or learned hear. They have all moved because being way over here is just too far to travel. So there are more Cali guys than you think. Are They better than the east coasters? No, just diferent. They all have their strenghts, and KVD is the best Tourny guy alive. California does have the single best bass fisherman of all times though. So There Yes I am talking about M Long
  17. 5bass that would be cool. I agree that if the best trophy hunters out here went to the east the wouldnt be dominating the tournaments but give them enough time and I believe they would break a lot of lake records. They used to have the world record bass club. they would pay out $25,000 to who ever caught the biggest bass in the world for each year. Long won it 3 of the 5 years and had it continued would have won it another 3 times. Rolo. Crupie and Murphy used live bait Mike Long and Bill Semental use artificials. Mike mostly uses swimbaits but not always. last year he caught a 15 of a senko and a 17 off a jig. So far his biggest fish in 2006 is a 16.5lber he caught a couple weeks ago. The guy is just a freak. Tournament fishing and Trophy hunting are just so diferent. Its like fishing for two diferent species. Very few guys have been succesful at combining the two. I beilieve the biggest diference is the time limit.
  18. Roger. Tourny fishing is a numbers game you have to play the percentages. To win a tournament you need 5 fish. Usualy 5 small bass will win. You realy dont have enough time to target big bass in a T. Most guys will get 5 and then look for a kicker. If you spent all day hunting big bass you would loose most T's There are alway exceptions but this is the norm. BTW There are a lot of Tournament being won out here on big baits. The two worlds are merging. Yes Trophy hunters do catch "small" fish but thier small fish would make great tournament fish. Tournament pros are the best in the world at catching small bass. trophy hunters are the best in the world at catching big bass. The money, sponsers and the spotlites are on the Tournaments. Only a few of the big bass guys get a lot of attention. That doesnt make them any less skilled. Last year we had a big show out here in Ca. called the Bassathon. There were many big name speakers. Aaron martins and G Swindel did seminars and drew a big crowd but When Mike Long did his seminar evry body in the building went to hear what he had to say even the venders.
  19. M FLY what are you talking about? Who said anything about selling swimbaits? Who said anything about swimbaits at all? It is my opinion that guys Like Mike Long and Crupie and Bill Siementel are better than any tournament guys. Why? because of what they caught not because of who they beat. I dont beleive all trophy hunters are better than all touny guys. Actualy I think the oposite. But the best of the best trophy hunters are better than everybody else. Like I said before Mike long also fishes Tournament and dominates them. Not little club Tournies either. He some times fishes by himself or with his 9 year old son and wins team tourny's out here. I guess its just diferent out here. The big bass specialist get more respect and clout than the tourny guys do. And the real reason non of the trophy hunters werent in the greatest angler contest hgad nothing to do with their skill. It was put on by BASS, a tournament oginazation. so obviously they went with Tourny guys. How many bass fisherman in the history of bass fishing have caught 50 bass over 15lbs on artificals? Hoy many guys have one a tournmant? How many of those guys that have one tournaments have ever caught 1 bass over 15lbs? not many. You can interpret this how ever you want . I am in no way saying that tournament guys arent great bass fisherman. actualy I think the pros are better than everybody else on the plannit except for maybe 2 or 3 big bass guys.
  20. Yes it was a trick question. The reason I asked is because the greatest angler debate was all about Tournament fisherman. Tounament guys are very versitile and all around great anglers but........... they still are only masters at catching small fish. Any of you and I could catch fish like Clunn and Rowland and any other pro. Sure we cant do it as consistantly as they can. I know I am not even close to being as good as them. But I am not impressed with a 20lb bag. I have done it many times and I am sure you guys have too. They just do it better and under pressure. But How many of you have caught a 50lb bag or several bass over 18lbs. Probably none of you or myself or any of the big name tournig pros. My point is How come none of the trophy hunters were represented in the contest. Mike Long, The late Bill Murphey, Bob Crupie are at least as good as Clun or any other pro and In my opinion. Mike Long is FAR superior to any touring pro yet wasnt even considered for the Greatest angler. I dont have current stats but he has caught about 40 bass over 15lbs. And about 15 over 17lbs. He has hundreds over 10lbs and ownes most of the lake records down in San Diego. He is clearly the best of the best of the trophy hunters. Now just so you all know he also dominates the tournaments down here. He often fishes solo and wins team T's. It doesnt seem right that he would would not be the winner let alone not even be in the contest. What do you guys think?
  21. I dont necessarily mean in tournaments. I am just asking who the better angler is.
  22. Who is better? The guy who catches the most small bass or the guy that catches the most big bass. Seriously I am curious what you guys think
  23. BassWest is the only mag that realy shows what we are doing out west. It is the only mag I get
  24. directlink if you just wanted to see if it was the same fish all you would need to do is bring a hole punch with you and make a little hole in one of the fins. You could change locations for diferent fish. It would be much quicker and the hole would close up after a little while.
  25. 1 Mike Long - Better than any touring pro. Dont believe me? google him 2 Aaron Martins 3 Bill Siementel or KVD
