  1. Some may remember in late 2021 that I was determined to get better at throwing a jerkbait, and declared that 2022 would be the "Year of the Jerkbait" for me, that I would focus on throwing it throughout the entire year and see what I could learn. 2022 was, in fact, the year of the jerkbait for me and produced my 4 biggest bass of the year contributing to a 5 bass total of 45lbs 6oz, two of which I caught in February were my first DDs. 10lb 9oz, caught February 11th 10lb 2oz, caught February 26th out of the same spot on the same bait

  5. Well, weatherman was 0-2 this weekend. Supposed to rain most of Saturday and all of Sunday, it did neither except some overnight. I went fishing near the house today and forgot to check wind, it was 20+ with gusts over 40…… 😂 I found and island to hide behind out of the wind and caught a nice fish with a crankbait. It hit once and I missed it, second time hooked up and the bait was completely engulfed. Seviin reel st croix rd and seaguar 33 lb braid . I went up a little further and the water just kept getting muddier. Went back to where I caught the first one and got another nice LM with a worm that a fellow member gave me . The water just kept getting even dirtier as time went on so I left my protected island and headed back for the truck. My oh my what a ride, I could only go 7-8 mph and I think I lost a few teeth Saturday I paddled some and hung out with my buddy and his dogs on the dock. Caught 3 little ones and found a pair of goggles in the water 😂

  9. 2024 is officially going out with a whimper. 12 skunkings in 13 December trips. 🤦‍♂️ Darn Cantankerous muskies anyhow. 😂 It's been an awesome year though. The final count stands at 93 muskie between 30" and 46.5", plus Tammy put another 13 in the net. It was my first full year fishing for them and I've learned a lot. Hopefully those lessons learned will make for an even better 2025. I caught three 46.5" fish this year, but I'm gonna give the best of the year award to this big girl who mauled a double 10 under the August moon. Best bass of the year was this 5.35# caught back in April flipping flooded bushes. Best saugeye of the year. I didn't record the weight, but if memory serves, it was just a hair under 5#. Best crappie of the year was this 15" caught flippin laydowns for bass. All in all, it was an outstanding year and even though the last month was an epic struggle, I feel very blessed. Looking forward to an even better 2025!!! 🤞

  10. I just found this in an old thread: @WRB is one of the all-time greats.

  11. I’ve caught 2 in my lifetime, a 10-14 and an 11-3 but this one was just shy of 10. She would have easily been over if she wasn’t spawned out.

  12. Dang girl, don't you know better than to title a thread like this? I know this is a bass fishing site, but I'm a guy first and I got my blood pressure up as I clicked on this one. I first thought; How many gals do we have on this site with DD's, but if was one, I had to see 'em. The only way this guy catches a double digit, or a pair of DD's for that matter, is to head south about five or six hours. The trip would be worth it though, for the fish that is. I don't remember what to do with the other things other than look at 'em.

  14. 2024 is going to be one to remember! I had two DD largemouth, one that was ounces shy of a DD and broke my smallie PB 5 times (of the five smallies, three 7lb smallies I caught in one day and had a solo 34lb 8oz bag of all bronze!) I'm grateful for all the time I got to spend on the water and for the big fish God blessed me with! Looking forward to 2025, the goals - teener largemouth and 8lb+ smallie! Here's the run down of my best 5 largemouth and smallmouth: Top 5 largemouth (46lb 12oz) - 10lb 4oz - 10lb - 9lb 12oz - 8lb 8oz - 8lb 4oz Top 5 smallies (35lb 8oz) - 7lb 4oz - 7lb 4oz - 7lb - 7lb - 7lb Photos are too large to attach, more pics on IG - 22RangerZ520R

  15. The 2 I posted are in this picture on the same day in December. I was fishing solo so couldn’t hold them all up so I found a guy at the ramp to take a picture of the two 10’s.i had to quickly lay these hawgs on the deck and released them back into the lake. Water temperature was 49 that day and the big largemouth were ganging up gorging on Shad in the pockets.i think everyone else was deer hunting that day. I caught over 25 keepers and the smallest was 4 pounds.doubt I ever have that kind of day again but thankful for that one fine day

  18. So everyone knows that fishing is my passion, but come on between Christmas and my birthday next week, I'll have enough in gift cards to purchase, well just about anything fishing that I don't need. You'd think somebody would think outside the box a little and get me something like a Midway USA gift card so I could get some new glass, or reloading supplies............WAIT, Bass Pro sells scopes and reloading supplies. So.............Keep them coming, my 75th is a week from today. I know, I'm shameless

  22. I’m right there with ya. Never caught a DD but love seeing the pics. My biggest 2 are a 9.12 and an 8.15. Mississippi is not known for its trophy bass waters. I think the one in my profile pic was 8.12.

  23. My biggest largemouth was also ounces shy of a DD, it just happened to be many ounces shy. 😅 Truly outstanding year, hope to see you achieve those 2025 goals.

  25. Fished with a friend this afternoon. Windy conditions out of the south, which is the hardest wind to fish in my lake. Caught 9 total , mostly on speed worms. Joe got a 3.90 20 inch fish, ( not a good pic of his fish) and my big fish was 2 poundish. Both were caught in one of the only places we could escape the wind. Caught most of the fish in the first hour and a half. It was the slowest day Ive had there in a long time…

  28. Gets cold here in the winter in South Carolina too. 48 degree water at the launch, but 43 down by the dam today. But the Dry-Tec gloves make it quite comfortable !

  29. I’d say “it depends” - primarily on what size fish suffered the most (if any) due to the drawdown. Big fish need more of everything to survive, whereas little fish can live happily in a puddle. If the big fish had enough refuge to survive, and got to feast on the consolidated smaller fish, it could be a big fish haven for a couple years. If the big fish survival requirements were compromised and they suffered greater mortality, it could be a dink-fest for several years to come. Will be interesting to read your reports from there next year to see which way the scales of life tipped.

  31. IDK 😉 2007 was my best year ever on Toledo Bend, the lake level was 15' low. I generally target 15' +/- 3', which means where I normally fish I was walking around kicking dust. I ended the year with 11 double digits including a 12 lb 8 oz PB. 2008 the lake level came back up to normal, the fish scattered & the big bite fell off

  33. Been fishing these for the last couple of seasons. My favourites are Imo Kamushi, the Cue and the 1-Way. I'm particularly fond of the 2Way and Big 2Way. Here's a video of me testing it in my tub!

  34. The term is "Tritanopia". You can run pictures of your bait through here if you're bored. Just choose the right filter. I've re-uploaded the images. And for fun, an orange Repala. I too suspect it's one of two things happening: there's some sort of contrast or, perhaps, there's some sort of UV the fish are seeing causing contrast. Either way after reading, I believe contrast to be quite important...especially in strolling or rolling presentations where you're "flashing" the sides/belly/back during the retrieve. https://pilestone.com/pages/color-blindness-simulator-1?srsltid=AfmBOoqH_oGfm3gDw99oNHq3z8gY9D8fmJjub692aTrEhJjjEYhajEiO

  35. Alaska does not allow felt soles on waders. This law has been in effect for a few years now. Hopefully the ban has had success preventing invasive species, because it sure has been successful making great slip and fall tumbles for you tube videos.

  37. Yeah, the only famous DD I have here is the original Dunkin' Donuts on Southern Artery .... I'd have to put 3 together, but I know a NH YouTuber that bagged 2 7# SMB in one trip in northern New England.

  38. I’m not sure anybody was under the impression that Academy makes their own crankbaits. Pretty sure it’s common knowledge that the big chain outdoors companies all farm out their lure making to 3rd parties and its branded under their “house brand” name. That being said I still like a bunch of the H2OX hard baits. Just as good or better quality as Strike King and a lot of other big name brands.

  43. My buddies all laughed at me when I first showed up at the ramp with the old Home Depot step stool I use in the garage. The next week they all had them. They make a 3-step if you don't like the $25 2-step.

  44. Well, went out to install Trick Step and noticed it would interfere with me replacing my winch strap which was in bad shape. So, first things first, ordered a new winch strap and mounting bolt. Works out good since it’s the original and hopefully I won’t need to replace it for a good long while.

  45. I'll wear gloves for a long cold morning or late afternoon run up/down Lake Menderchuck. However I HATE wearing anything besides 'sun gloves' (which I will wear just to take the chill off.) But any & all types of 'winter' gloves I've tried (and I've tried them all) are just to bulky and seriously detract from my ability to fish effectively. At this point (and after a couple of decades on the north Atlantic in the winter) I can tolerate the cold OK. Times when I can't, my guides & reel are usually freezing up. At that point I call it a day. 🥶 A-Jay

  46. Well the first pond had ice. so ended up at two deeper larger ponds. I got 3 bass 2 rainbow trout and a bunch of yellow perch on blade baits. My friend got 1 bass and some perch. The water was still 41 at the bigger deeper ponds.
