  1. Experienced one of best days on the water ever. I lost count of the bass I was catching but for 7 hours I was getting 2-4 pounders left and right like this guy. I also caught a 7lb but no picture. It was windy and it was either crash into the rocks were the fished pulled me and get the picture or throw it back and run the trolling motor. On top of that I got two 2-3lb catfish, 7 crappie and 5 big bluegill.

  2. probably the last fishing trip for a while. went out of lee street on the saginaw river in down town saginaw. The river has been busy with Freighter traffic lately. I was t sure where i was going up river or down bound but, after checking AIS boat nerd site. The 670 ft M/V Saginaw was unloading stone at the Old GM dock. which, is basically as far up river river as they can get before the shipping channel ends. Where the saginaw was docked is roughly 15-18 miles from the mouth of the river and the saginaw bay. after passing the M/v saginaw and catching a nice walleye on a lbs 1.5 square bill. the saginaw blew her whistle made the turn and started her journey back to the saginaw bay and lake huron. it took her almost 3 hours to reach the mouth/bay. I did manage to catch another 3 lbs bass on a black and blue spine craw. good day to end on for a while.

  4. Went fishing before church this morning at the pond I've been frequenting the past couple days and finally hit paydirt. I knew this pond held some decent fish, and I think I finally got to them while they were active. A 2" Rapala floating minnow worked as a jerk bait did the trick. I landed four bass, losing two right at the bank. (I think the hooks on the little bait are a bit too small.) I also caught a little crappie, a nice surprise since I didn't know they were in that pond. The largest bass was 17" long, had another at 16". I didn't measure the other two.

  6. Only had a couple hours this morning. Air temps were low 60’s at launch, and a stiff breeze out of the east which isn’t ideal. I had a short strike on a Plopper and lost one by the boat on a swim jig. The only catch of the day was this one by 6poundbass.

  7. I fished a new pond this morning. I drove past it last weekend and took a quick look and it looked good. Saw plenty of small, medium and large bluegills, a lot of bass fry and some 10”-12”. Stained but clearer than my usual pond. Also had grass. It turned out to be much larger than the other ponds I’ve fished. It wrapped around like a horseshoe with a small island on the hidden side. It’s surrounded on three sides by private property and fronts a main thoroughfare so it likely gets limited pressure (I saw no one else fishing). I started with a Whopper Plopper. Had one hit but missed it. I switched to a jerkbait, then a jig-n-craw, then a Texas rig. There is a lot of grass. It’s thin like vermicelli and IMO, it stinks. Like the smell of it literally stinks. In some spots it was so thick it created floated mats. With no catches I switched to an old standby- a #956 Senko wacky rig. Bam! The bass really liked that as I caught 8 out of 12 on that one bait (I eventually lost it and caught another on a #297 Senko WR. Also caught one each on a 7” Speed Senko Texas rig (first time trying that bait) in green pumpkin/watermelon, a weightless TR with a watermelon red Zoom Trick and a weightless TR with a Zoom Magnum Trick in watermelon red. The numbers were good. Sizes were on the small side. I took pics of the biggest two bass (and they were definitely bigger than the rest- two were 6” long). Might go back and try it again but that grass was terrible. I thought algae was bad. This was worse IMO. I also tried for the first time a new shirt with hoodie and new pants. The pants were great. That hoodie was hot!

  8. I went from 2 to 6 last night. I caught 10 Bass, mostly small. Pictured are the first and last. I caught 6 like the first one at the same point. After all were that size I decided to leave Bass to find Bass. The Bluegill spawn is going on, but hasn't really got the attention of Bass yet. I saw a big fish chasing Bluegill on sonar. It turned out to be a 15 pound Flathead Catfish. (in the other species thread) The last 4 Bass were scattered in lay downs. Lay downs are hard (at least for me) to fish at night but the nearly full moon helped. The wound on the last ones side didn't look like it came from spawning. I wonder if a Heron had tried to get it.

  9. Went fishing on my work friends boat today along with another one of the guys that I am friends with. It was a slow day for me at first, I was getting my butt handed to me lol. Nothing big size wise, but I stayed patient and caught the 3 largest fish of the day. Would have been 4 but one threw my lure back at me. One came off boat side trying to get it in the boat. Although I came back with a vengeance with the chatter bait and caught up with them in the end. I also caught the last fish of the day. I only got one picture because I was not worried about getting pictures, I wanted to catch up. My one buddy could have probably wiped the floor with me but he didn’t really fish much, he use to tournament fish. He told me to long arm it and I don’t do that so I chose to use the picture that made my fish look smaller. Stay humble and proud and persevere through the diversity is my moto.

  10. Hey everyone although I’m a bit late on this I have to say “Good Lord” did I receive some of the best customer service ever from Bass Pro Shops. So I sent in a 2001 BPS Pro Sho Pro Qualifier spinning reel which I said “please just grease and lube” not only did I receive my reel sent back in tip top shape I received a spare spool which I paid for but also the original frame and the spare parts as BPS is getting ready to call the reel vintage and no longer offer parts in that lineup 🤔

  11. I had a short trip today due to the weather. I planned on going early, but wasn't sure how early due to passing storms. It stormed off an all at my house most of the night. (with lightening) I finally left home around 4:30AM thinking the storms were gone. On the way to the lake there were leaves and limbs all over the place. There was one small tree over the road going to the landing. I keep a tow strap in my truck so I just pulled it out of the road. There was one boat at the landing. They had been catfishing all night and said they got caught in a heckuva storm way down the lake. I caught 3 Bass, 1 Spot and 2 Largemouth within my first 10 or so casts. (the fat bleeding Spot was hooked in the upper lip, I didn't see the blood until I looked at the picture. I don't know where the blood was coming from) Right after that the sky started toward the West started to light up with lightening. It looked like it was headed East toward me. I headed back to the landing, loaded my boat, and took a nap in my truck. It never stormed there, but I respect lightening. I went back out, caught 1 more Largemouth then decided to call it a day. The forecast is for storms early tonight. I plan on going around midnight and fishing until dawn or so. I'm going to the lower end of the lake tonight. My Sister in Law lives down there. If it storms I'll go to her house. The Bluegill spawn is on. I caught all 4 Bass on a "Sungill" colored spinnerbait. Water temperature was 79 degrees. That's 7 degrees warmer than last Saturday.

  12. Caught my first ever crappie. I think this is black crappie? I did not know this pond held crappie, so even though it's little, it was a fun surprise. I'm coming for your crown, @Team9nine

  13. I guess it was take your wife fishing day , she got a 30” carp that weighed 12.6 lbs with her 5 wt fly rod and a popping bug. They are still cruising around slurping cicadas then we took a long boat ride up toward the next dam and saw a domestic duck of all things, pretty backdrop. Then on our way back home we stopped to eat at the marina and a band was playing, they were pretty awesome Then, when we pulled back up to the dock, the Catfish line was bent and I got a decent little blue cat with a bluegill for bait. Fillets in the fridge!!!

  16. I (Bass) fished from 2 to 6 last night. I saw a big fish chasing Bluegill on sonar. To bad it was a 15 pound Flathead, instead of a 15 pound Bass. I enjoy Flatheads. They're fighters. Blues give up and just let you drag them to the boat.

  19. Half way through my fishing trip. Heading to another spot. I went back to the spot where I lost a big one yesterday and caught a very mediocre fish. He also caught me... Gonna try one more pond for another hour or so and then head home. The picture of the bass is subpar because I had a treble hook in my hand. I snapped the photo and then flipped him into the water. I had more important things to deal with.

  20. On the 1-10 Angling Tech Scale (ATS), where do you rank and why? I consider a bank angler with a rod or two and a few lures in a pocket to be a 1. Someone with a tricked out bass boat with the latest FFS would be a 10. I'm a 3. I fish out of a plain hull, I.e. a Bell Rockstar canoe with no accessories and electronics. However, it is a Kevlar boat, which is advanced technology, and my paddle is carbon, which is more technology. I choose to be a 3 because it's all I can carry, but being a 3 allows me to fish water others can't reach, so at this point, even if were younger and stronger, I think I'd still fish at level 3. As far as why you fish at your ATS level, it might be your finances or a love of tech or anything else.

  24. This must be what you tell the smallmouth, and they listen. I am probably a 4. My boat is a 2-seat Jon boat, and my electronics are rudimentary 2D sonar. I fish smaller waters, less than 1000 acres typically. I do usually have 10 or more rods in the boat with me, and a 40lb bag of tackle though.

  25. Took some time this week and went fishing for 3 days out on the kayak. Tried to focus more on stuff that I’ve learned here and other things than just sticking to the same things. Went to my same lake and a few new ones. Wednesday I only went out for a few hours but caught a few bringing a Fogy Pro bladed jig through some scattered submerged grass. Thursday, more of the same except this time they came on a 4” swimbait. Today was by far the most productive day, caught several along rocky banks with cranks and then dragging points with a small Keitech football jig. Never caught fish like that with a jig, felt cool finally catching them out in 15 feet of water. Biggest of the week came today on a Seibert Fogy Pro, brought it through a school of baitfish unknowingly along a seawall. It got smoked and the ball of baitfish also spread on the surface, was a really cool bite. Tight lines!

  26. Over the years, I have had both single and dual axle trailers. Unless your boat is large or heavy, I would go with a single axle. As others have stated, single axle trailers are much easier to maneuver. Dual axle trailers are harder to turn sharply. Some people think having a double axle trailer reduces the need for a spare tire. This is definitely not true. Then there are the tolls. If the roads where you fish have tolls, you will pay more for a double axle trailer. As far as the material, unless you are planning to fish salt water, a steel trailer is fine. My Ranger trailer came painted with what looks like truck bed liner paint. I have had my boat for two years and the trailer still looks like new. Today's aluminum boats are nothing like they were twenty years ago.

  28. Wow! That's pretty cool. I expect someone figured it was better to give them out to people who could use them than scrap them out if they are going to stop supporting them. Pretty cool! Rebuilds a bit of my opinion on them, which has been lacking lately! Good for them!

  29. An all time low today... went fishing twice at my favorite pond. Morning and evening. Skunkarooni both times. Never even got a bluegill to nibble. That almost never happens at this pond. Something was definitely off. Will try it again Monday if not sooner. Might be a glutton for punishment but it beats sitting inside all day, right? 😉

  31. I've had good luck this Spring fishing places where bass boats festooned with electronics couldn't go, i.e. shallow ponds, bogs, and swamps at the ends of meandering dirt paths or streams. Accurate casting is key. The land and water approaches deny bigger boats and often the water is too shallow for bigger boats once you're there. I'm casting in a foot of water to slim slots. If you miss the slot, you ruined that chance. I might cast into a bush once per fishing session. My point is that there are places where FFS is useless and I fish those places. There are a lot of bass in such places, but you have to be soooooo quiet and accurate. Most sessions, I bump into a bass with the bow of my canoe because they don't know I'm there. There are places where there isn't even room to turn my canoe around and I have to back paddle out. Come summer, I'll be fishing bogs where there might be two feet of water, even though the bottom is six to ten feet down.

  32. Went to the lake with my bride this morning, and she showed me how it's done. She went four for four putting them in the net with the quick strike rig. She was on a roll, 35, 38.5, 36, 37. Right at the top of each hour. It was impressive watching her pull that off. I have no idea how she did it, but each bite was within 5 min of the top of the hour. Atta girl Tammy!!! 😂 Best fishing buddy I could ever ask for. ❤️

  34. Wife and i went to detroit lakes minn this thursday with a scoop of live minnows. It was cold, windy, dreary 48 degrees and rained on us all day from 3:30pm to midnite when we arrived home. I wore my frog togg rain suit and was dry except for my feet and hands, i was to lazy to put on rubber boots. The bass were insane, we were fishing for crappie using 1/8 oz furry black bug looking ballhead jig tipped with a minnow and using slip bobbers. The bigger bass have moved into the shallows now and were extremelly easy to catch on the bug jig, surprisinly with the very small hook along with a nose hooked minnow all the bass i caught were perfectly hooked through the mouth, some were jumping out of the water and that bug jig being so light there was no chance it was gonna get tossed. Also i was using my new 5 6" berkley cherrywood light rod and it made for an exciting fun catch and land. The bass were active all day but the crappie bite didnt start till 8:15 pm.

  38. @ol'crickety I had to clip that single hook off the treble and force the sharp point all the way through my hand and pull it out that way. Got to avoid ripping out a chunk of myself on the barb that way. Definitely considering going all barbless after that experience. Not so fun. First time I've ever been hooked past the barb. I've been stabbed by hooks several times, but never that deep before.

  43. On my old propane grill I encountered this a couple times. My Weber now has a spring loaded clamp for the tank and as it gets lighter, it moves the spring higher on the dial that it’s hanging from. It has 4 levels 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Once I see it down to 25, I go refill. It’s not a perfect or fully accurate system but it hasn’t caused the issue I had before.

  44. It’s been awhile since I’ve had to deal with propane tanks. My biggest complaint was the tank seemed to go empty with half cooked meat on the grill during a family BBQ followed up by a hurried run to the gas station or hardware store.
