  3. First ever jig fish. Falling in love with this style of fishing. Didn’t even know she was on, but I had a gut feeling that it wasn’t a rock. Set the hook and up she came.Great fight. 2.64lbs and 12 inches.

  4. Ribit Ribit! I stayed away from the Senko finally. I picked up my other crutch a frog. After the sun went behind the trees they started slamming the frog. I got 6 in probably 45 minutes. There's nothing better than 65lb braid and throwing a frog into the thick slop! This girl went 4-5

  5. Got out for a few hours after 6 pm. Decided to fish close to home on the shallower end of the lake. Its been rather cool for July here so the fish were a little more active than they normally are on a July afternoon here.Caught 3 in the first hour, then caught 5 off one isolated eel grass bed in 20 minutes . Caught them all on watermelon red super flukes. All were around the same size. Nothing big this time. Tried the frog after dark for awhile, but nothing doing. But it was a nice, refreshing time on the water.

  6. After a week of super hot, humid temps, we finally got some relief. Of course the cold front came the night before I was taking the day off to fish. Tried some frogs, crankbaits and faster stuff for an hour in the morning but it wasn’t happening, so out came the pitching rods. Water was still very warm, and the fish were in the thick pads but suspended right under them. Was more of a reaction bite rather than feeding, as almost every fish bit as soon as the lure touched down. It was a real test of both boat control in the heavy north winds, and making sure I was paying attention at all times to not miss any hits. All fish came on a Berkley max scent creature hawg or General with a 3/8 or 1/2oz tungsten sinker and Trokar flippin book. It was a good day to have the Talon, without it I would’ve only caught maybe half the fish I did, just because I could lock down and pick apart every hole and point or irregularities in the pads. Managed about 12 bass and a couple small pike, not too bad for the conditions and the fact this was a fairly pressured lake that’s not well known for largemouth, of course the two big ones shook off right at the boat, both were over 4lbs, but I still managed a few nice fat ones. Average size Another

  7. I broke my PB sheepshead by several pounds today, and was very lucky to do so. My brothers and I have been doing very well on Jennette's Pier (OBX, NC) for the past two days. We are fishing fiddler crabs on spinning rods with light (15lb) leader, you use a light (1/4-3/8oz) weight and let the wind and current push the bait up under the pier to the sheepshead, it's a blast! I hooked this fish late in the afternoon on the end of the pier, and somehow managed to keep it off of the pilings with 10lb braid, 15lb leader, and a medium action spinning rod. Mind you that fish has the capability to snap a flippin stick like a toothpick! Landing fish with a pier net is nerve-wracking and takes so long, but that part came together too. A once in a lifetime catch I suspect. 8lbs is citation

  10. Had 2 firsts today. 1st first was catching a bass with the 110 Whopper Plopper(also first fish of the day) 2nd first was catching a fish with four different baits/lures. 1lb 4oz on the Whopper Plopper, 1lb 1oz on a weightless Texas rigged bama craw Rage Craw with the pinchers dipped in chartreuse Spike It Dip N Glo, nonscorable bass on a wacky rigged double header red Strike King Ocho and a 2lb 3oz bowfin(not pictured because it took up too much space on here) on a 7/16oz bluegill Storm Wildeye Swim Shad. Not a bad day of bank fishing at Caney Lakes lower lake side. ?

  12. I found that shrink tubing works great if you want the fish to just take your worm. I don't know how many times I had a fish swipe the worm and all I got back was a bare hook with the shrink tubing on it. I found that the Goody hair bands work the best. Double them over so they make an X and then your hook remains perpendicular to the worm for better hookups. Can get a package of about 100 at Walmart for a couple bucks in the girls hair section.

  14. I've been getting video of my trips for a few season now. Been fortunate enough to capture some of my most memorable fish catches on video and it's been fun to share them. Once I had a few 'libraries of season' the videos have been very helpful to be able to look back to see what I did where & especially when. Works like a log as much of 'the details' are right there. Perhaps what I do enjoy most is that I can capture 'photos' right from the video. As we all know fishing alone & taking pictures of your catch can be challenging. This makes it very easy. Like just about any endeavor, you most likely get out of it, what you put into it. However, with a little planning & forethought, you may be able to get the fish of a life time recorded and have some fun while you're doing it. I say go for it. A-Jay

  18. Finally got on some smallmouth this evening after work. Only had about 45 minutes of light, and only caught fish in about 15 of that. Caught three, hooked but lost two others, and had one maybe pound and a half follow worm right up to the bank on a straight retrieve. That one clued me in to how they wanted the presentation though, and the next dozen or so casts resulted in 5 hookups. All from the same spot on the bank! Another milestone... The pic is my first ever Ned rig fish! I kinda like this little turd worm.

  21. So My G-Daughter Mackayla and her friend beg me to take them to a local pawn shop to look at games they could buy. I haven't felt up to par all week , and tried to get out of it, but it's my G-daughter so guess who won ? So we get to the pawn shop, they head to the games, and I head to the fishing area. I'm looking for baitcasters but they don't have any. I almost walked away, but a small, ultralight spinning combo caught my eye. I've always loved them for bream fishing so I picked it up. Then I noticed it looked strangely familiar. It was MINE. It was the combo that went missing last year. I thought one of the kids had knocked it off the dock or something, but apparently it was less innocent than that. I told the shop owner and paid only 16.00 to bail it out.I had a chain saw stolen from a family " friend " last year and had to press charges to get it back, which I did after 5 months of the police holding it. I wasn't about to go through that again. Now I wondered how that combo got to that shop and how long it had set out there waiting for purchase.? Its been missing for almost a year ! I am a man of faith, so I'm thankful and blessed to get it back, and in such an amazing way, since it is my favorite bream combo.? It doesn't take a criminal justice degree to figure out who did it. The " friend " and the monkey on his back.?

  23. Based upon my experience fishing with friends in their boats.....get your foot off the trolling motor! Plastic worms may be the slowest, most boring lure there is. Short story:Nephew was with me fishing from shore one day, He was using a 6" lizard weightless. He cast out and laid his pole down and walked away for a minute. I hear something, turned and looked, his rod and reel is being dragged into the water... To finish what I started, it's hard to fish with friends in their boats emulating FLW contestants. Trolling motor always engaged, crankbaits cranking, you can forget trying a worm. I've caught bass just letting the worm drift behind the boat... In my boat this time of year, I'll find a cove with trees, sit in the shade and fish a worm for 10 minutes or more before hitting the trolling motor and moving up the shore a little bit into another shade. Weightless rigged plastic worms may be one of the best bank fishing lures there is. But it's all good....

  25. When the Mississipi river starts falling again in a couple of weeks I'll be fine. Flip sticks, 65lb braid, and 3/4 oz weight in 2 feet of water. That will tide me over til the next trip. Getting harder and harder to leave my comfort zone.

  26. I think I would be at a serious disadvantage if I stopped using plastic worms. If I had to pick one bait year around plastic worms would be my first choice. #1 bass bait for me - hands down

  29. After I went deer hunting for the first time, I found out that my smartest weapon in my arsenal wasn't my gun or my ammo...it was no scent. When you are 3 feet away from a deer, looking through because it can't smell you, it's an eye opener. With that said, I never used to use scents for bass fishing, never, ever, never ever. I got heavy into buying tackle a couple of years ago(I found this site, TW, etc) and bought all the JJs magic colors, Gulp Spray, etc, the whole kit and caboodle. I hardly ever used them, except for the Gulp spray and I am almost out of Clear JJs. I have used the red and the chartreuse but not as much as I "should". The Gulp Spray is my smartest weapon in my tackle box. I spray my hands with it to cover up any humanize scents on my hands(bug spray, smoke, just stank hands). To me this is by far the best use for it.

  30. Mo, in my humble opinion, it boils down to confidence. If you have confidence in using scent then use it. If not, then don't. Personally, I use MegaStrike and JJ's Magic. No idea if the bass take the bait better with either but I have strong confidence that if a bass is around the area it will smell and then taste the plastic and hold onto it a little longer. Now, to get into the debate if scent is a waste of money by using Dr. Keith Jones' research outlined in his book, Knowing Bass, we could be here all day with our input, pro and con. Dr. Jones writes that the majority of scent molecules are too large to pass through the bass' nostrils and do nothing to entice the bass via scent or taste. But I don't want to get into that fight. If you are interested, get the book. Confidence. It all boils down to confidence.

  33. I have both, I've have kayakers (always paddlers, never fishermen), paddle right between me and the bank. I've been cut off, nearly swamped, and leap frogged by guys in boats while I'm in my kayak. It's just a lack of common courtesy that isn't there and so many people living in their own little bubble where nobody else matters or barely exist. Saying anything to them does little but increase the odds of things going sideways, I just keep fishing or move along and hope karma bites them in the backside somewhere down the road.

  34. I do it more for being able to improve as a fisherman and share my trips with others that might be able to learn something, not to really be any kind of production quality show or anything. I find that I learn a lot by watching myself, both good and bad things I do. I've improved some things, like I've gotten faster on my jig and plastic hook sets and toned the hook sets down, which has reduced my hook set break offs and improved my catch ratio. I also got better at waiting to feel fish before setting on them on topwater. Lots of trips I've been able to go back and watch what I was doing and realize what the fish were doing and really break down the day so I can recognize it if I find them in the same pattern again at a later date. I did that to almost win a tournament earlier this year when I went back and realized that what I thought were finicky fish, were actually bedding fish I couldn't see just moving my bait a foot or two and dropping the bait off their beds. So on tournament day, I was wired for sound and swinging anytime my bait starting doing anything it shouldn't be. Ended up with big bass and .04lbs short of first in a team tournament, fishing solo.

  35. I have the regular Avid version of this, and it was the first St. Croix rod that I tried out and started out with. This rod was what made me become a fan of St. Croix. It's a great rod. Love the taper. It also has the perfect amount of power that I look for in a spinning rod (it's not too noodle-y and not too stiff), and has good sensitivity. I have also have an Avid X (6' 6" Medium Fast casting), and I find that even though the regular Avid and the Avid X are the same blanks, for the some reason the Avid Xs are much more sensitive and better balanced. I used to think that the only difference between the regular Avid and Avid X would simply be one's personal preference of having a full cork grip or split grip. I like the traditional looking rods with full cork grips and for this reason, I have a couple of regular Avids, but in my hands, the Avid Xs feel so much better. To answer your question, although I wouldn't primarily use this rod for roostertails and cranks, I have. With up to 1/4oz rooster tails, I've had no problems, and they seem to stay buttoned up even though it has an extra fast action because the rod's power is soft enough to allow it to bend easily to absorb the shocks. However, with squarebills, even with small ones, the rod flexes too much from the resistance. I think small jerkbaits would work fine on this rod. But really, this rod shines and excels for drop shots, ned rigs, split-shot rigs, throwing grubs on 1/8oz jigheads, neko rigging, wacky rigging and other finesse techniques.

Your last post all you did was shoot down their knowledge and explain how you are doing things. Most fishermen I know will help out anyone that is willing to listen. Just a piece of advice.

  40. I have a few of them and like the bait pretty well. I agree about the hooks, I like how sharp they are but the sizes seem wrong to me so I swapped them out. I haven't had any problems with paint or eyes falling off and I've fished them quite a bit. It's not something I worry about though, I like baits with mojo, they catch more fish.

  43. Can't say that I've noticed a huge difference, but I haven't fished it enough to give it a real review yet. This is a 100 size, so in between a 90 and 110 plopper but they aren't as tall as a plopper (at least this size isn't). I do think that maybe the fins tend to act as keels and rudders and help prevent it from rolling like a plopper wants to do as times. Shown with a 110 and 130 for scale I can confirm that it does catch fish though. Looking forward to trying some of the larger sizes and seeing if they offer and different colors to the US than what is currently available overseas.

  45. High in the low 90s with heat indexes over 100, so called it after 40 fish. Fish in this little lake are fat and healthy, and put up one heck of a fight, but I haven't found any of the big girls from last year yet. Looks like the deepest water is only 7 or 8 feet, and we had a pretty severe winter, so I'm hoping they didn't die off. Got some solid chunks though today. As always, all my tackle went in my back pocket, and thanks to the Elaztech, I only had to use 2 worms today

  46. Where in the rules does it say the boater gets first shot at all waters? As long as you're not throwing ahead of or in front of him, you are fine in my opinion. It's a narrow space and he got to pick what side he wanted to throw to. If he moved slow enough, he could have fished both sides as he moved along. I would have kept fishing, limited out on his butt from the back deck and then sat down and ate lunch ?
