  1. Got the first one (only one so far - lol) on the big JB last night about 15 min after sunset. I'll keep messing with it on some other waters as I get the chance.

  2. Went out for a troll on Georgian Bay this morning with the family, slow start, didn’t get fishing till 11:00 and only fished an hour before the heat drove us off the water, but we did alright. My son fought this one in all by himself. 10lbs even on my light rainbow gear, almost spooled him twice! Looks like we’re bbqing salmon for dinner tonight ??

  3. So a little while ago someone posted on here a way to catch gar using nylon rope. Basically cutting a piece off and fraying the ends so the small strings catch on the gars teeth. Well fishing out the back of a friends boat today I was seeing a lot of gar and decided to give it a try. I cut a piece of rope and wasn't even planning on using a hook bit couldn't find any other way to attach it so I used a #2 octopus hook. After catching a few gar I pitched to another fish I thought was a gar and well you see. Keep anneye on the flea market for this new lure I'll be selling haha

  4. On @WRB's recommendation - I took & used the 25lb on several rigs on my last trip south of the border. A place where any weak link in my gear is quickly exposed & routinely abused. Didn't happen ~ Line performed well. Highly recommended by 4 out of 5 bassheads that use premium Mono. A-Jay

  5. Picked up an original wooden Musky JB off eBay a couple weeks ago. Swapped out hooks and ready to try and land one on this big old piece of history. First attempt last night resulted in half a dozen blowups, but no hookups. Still fun for the first time out. We'll keep trying until I find one big enough to actually eat this thing ?

  6. Up until two years when I got my first bass rig I would fish on others boats and it was alot of fun caught fish etc etc but since I got my own I rig the experience is totally different having your own rig it seems you grow as a fishermen alot more, one thing as far as fishing goes that I'll do is fish an area thorough sticking with it not running all around being persistent, being very thorough, trying different baits in area, giving the lure a chance to work, the other day I went out didn't get a bite for a few hours kept working that area trying to different baits than BOOM!!!!I was on them, I figured out what they wanted,at what depth and speed, had a 4lb avg, before if was fishing an area and didn't get a bite in 30 min I would run,I seen guys the other day riding by me left and right alot of times same boats fishing teaches you alot about not giving up and believe in what you are doing, guess it's just good old fashion hard work that pays off.Just wanted to share.

  8. Finally got a day when it was over cast and "raining" as arizonans think. It was more of an extremely light sprinkle. Usually the bite is off the charts in weather like this buuuut. Got 5 2-3lb bass a tilapia and a monster channel cat. Good times for a 3 hr trip.

  9. I like to use them when I want a bulky bait, but need something even more resistant to snags than a jig, for when I'm deep in the jungle. I tie my own, they work really nice with something like a beaver or a pit boss.

  11. My PB is just about 7 pounds. I just got back from bank fishing a pond. I was using 6 inch lizards. Hooked into a giant, got it close, realized it was way bigger than my PB, and then with one final jump and head shake it got off about a foot away from being landed. For a split second every part of me was ready to jump in and grab it real quick before I realized how dumb that would be.

  12. Sunday 6/17/18 6:30-10:00 Cloudy Temp hot and humid W/T 84.5* current south and east Water stained Went this morning with friend Rick. Fished the spoil bank on the flats side. We never left the flat. Hydrilla was topped out all over the place. High water allowed us to move around without problems. You could see fish busting the surface early. Rick and I started with a frog. I used a swim frog and Rick a H/B. We had chasers but on takers. Switched to a u-vibe and Rick a swimbait and both caught a few. I then switched to a fluke, and the bite got crazy. Sometimes it was every cast for a while. We both caught a good number for a short trip. We both caught a 20 inch fish, with a bunch in the high teens. We finished with over 25 bass caught, a chain pickeral, and a bunch of hit and misses. Ripping the fluke off the bottom and letting it fall back was a key. Once the clouds cleared and the sun rose the bite slowed, the humidity got ridiculous, and it was time to head home, and have a cold one. Much better this morning then we ever expected. ?

  13. Happy Father's Day to all the dads on here and also to all the moms who have to be daddy too, if there's any on here. Well for Father's Day, today, My niece, Amber, her husband Jacob, their 2 kids Brantley and Ariel and my brother in law Warren all went to Cross Lake this morning to do some fishing from his boat. We had lots of fun, got a few bites with nothing to show. Got to try my new baits. Threw the prop frog, had a blowup, but somehow he missed it. Threw my chatterbaits, nothing doing again. So I threw my new 3/8oz green pumpkin swinging swim jig with a bama bug Rage Craw trailer it got bit but the fish came off. My hand was wet and slipped when I set the hook, had him hooked for about a second or two but couldn't keep my hand dry enough to quit slipping. Was a nice one, definitely had some weight to it. Oh well, we can't catch em all...lol! Stayed with that bait since it got hit the hardest and it was smashed by this 3lb 3oz hawg. That's Brantley my great nephew in one of the pics holding her up. He's 5 years old and thought it was totally awesome. Wasn't long afterwards, everybody but me wanted to leave and go home. Needless to say, I was out voted. Hope you fathers caught a hawg or better today! God Bless! ?

  14. I do not back reel while fighting / landing fish but instead rather prefer to utilize the drag. Properly set (and perhaps even adjusting it during) I'm comfortable & effective with it. I have & use both type spinning reels (with & without an anti-reverse option). Have not had an issue either way and do not 'miss it' on the reels that do not have it. YMMV A-Jay

  15. Finally got a chance to go back to Philippines for a vacation and family reunion. Stayed half of the time in Makati, boy the whole place changed after 15 years. I could easily get lost here. Finally got to my sister's rest house in Caliraya Lake at Laguna. The road to the place I had a great time. The weather is Caliraya is fantastic. It's more of a rain forest setting, drizzle in the morning for half an hour and the sun comes out to brighten the day. It's always windy and the breeze cools the air. The house is between waters from the west and the east side. I got at least six black bass during my stay there. Most of them are caught in weightless 5" senko and 5" YUM worm. I tried all types of topwater lure to get a mud fish/snake head family but would not get them to bite. I actually have not spotted any. I think I found a place to retire: Thanks for reading

  17. I fished the annual opening day 3 fish limit tournament on Silver today. I did OK....or should I say my partner did OK. You fish as individuals, but since we used his boat, he has terminal cancer, and has a crappy livewell with NO culling system/equipment or a way to keep our fish separate, I ran the boat, caught all the fish, and let him weigh them all in, hoping to get one last cashing for a dying old friend. Before anyone get's their panties in a wad over this saying "that's cheating" or "not fair", the guys running the tournament knew before hand I was going to do this, and take a zero under my name, and let my friend have the glory, and they were OK with it....BUT I had to agree to pay double the entree fee and take a ZERO/DQ to do it, which I did gladly. Anyways...the fishing......I struggled in the morning. Then from 9am- to the end at 1pm, I caught fish pretty steady. All smallmouth, all on the stupid ned rig LOL. I ended up getting him 9.98 lbs for the best three smallmouth. All cookie cutter 3lbers and change. But..it was only good for 6th place out of 30+ guys....two spots out of the money. I feel bad I couldn't get the old timer one more run in a cashers spot, but I tried.

  20. As a trophy bass angler pre spawn brings more hungry big bass near shallow water then any other seasonal or time period with peak feeding during the few days around the full and new moon. That is when over 90% of my giant bass were caught during daylight hours. Does low traffic help, yes. Does low fishing pressure help, yes. Does low barametic pressure help, yes Does low light help, yes. Does night fishing during pre spawn help, don't know because can't fish at night then. Summer nights when traffic is gone, fishing pressure is light, weather is mild and temperatures cooling is a ideal time to bass fish because of all the positive factors that night offers. I have never caught a bass over 15 lbs at night, lots big bass between 10 to 12 lbs and I don't know why, it could be my time on the water is limited. Tom

  24. I was catching gar below a low water dam this week on a rope lure. I just tie it to the bend of a jig head just in case something stupid happens like a wiper or walleye decides to hit it. I didn't have anything but gar eat mine. There was a kid that rode his bike down there that was just shocked you could catch fish on a piece of rope. I gave him some rope and jigheads before I left so he could catch some too and saw him fighting one when I got back to my car at the top of the hill.

  30. This is a couple days old, but it was one of the last times I went out and one of the best fishing days of my life. It was my first frogging attempt of the year so my drag on my reel was still completely loose and I missed about 8 blowups on only a few more casts right at the start of the morning. When I finally realized the drag was loose, after a fish had held on to the frog and pulled out some drag and then spit it out, I started putting them in the boat, and they were good ones! After the sun got high I switched over to a magnum Christie Critter and started pitching it as far back in the reeds as possible and was glad I did! I caught my new PB for this state at 6.3 lbs (6 lbs 4.8 oz) and my best five fish were right under 28 lbs (2 of the 5+ didn't get recorded on the GoPro). Then I went back 3 days later after a little rain and cold front and found them roaming in the lilies with a black and blue chatterbait. Best 5 for that day were ~23 lbs.

  31. This one was back in a little hole in the water willows and when the line popped off the willows, it just came off. I like to think it was just one of those fish that I did everything right and still lost, but I'm sure I could have done something different. I agree 100% about learning from watching myself though. I've cured some bad habits I didn't even know I had from watching myself fish on my videos and also been able to go back and break down the patterns I was on without even realizing I was on them. Right after the 2:00 mark is where I missed the good one on the Fruck. I did make up for it by catching a pretty decent one on it about 30 minutes later.

  33. I threw the Jackall Gantarel Junior the other day and caught a few small bass on it and had a couple nice followers. I also included a couple good bass I released on a previous trip. Check out the bass that followed the gantarel in when I burned it back and hit it when I dropped it back into water! That was a first for me!

  40. "Weightless " is a misnomer. A 5" senko is plenty hefty enough for a mh casting rig. A 4" trick worm, not so much. Point is, you need to know the weight of what you'll be throwing and make decisions accordingly.
