Here's another one, but it's time for a new scale, since according to it, this 22 3/4 long fish weights 0.5 lbs, any guesses on the weight, I'm pretty sure she's 5 lbs at least since I've caught a number of them.
Kind of irritating but oh well, and I need to work on getting the whole fish in the picture when im by myself.
Today I decided to get out on the water and see if I could get bit. Dropped in at Franks Tract, water 51 and change, afternoon temperatures were supposed to hit the mid 60’s. In the distance you could easily see the snow this past weekends storm dumped on the Sierra’s. I threw reaction baits for most of the day, landing a couple including this skinny 5.8lb female on blades....
Well, the Ned Rig works at night. Landed 11 tonight with some dinks mixed with a couple chunky monkeys. Junebug finesse TRD glued on a 1/15th oz shroomz jig head was durable enough to last the entire outing. Ned rig is a fantastic prespawn bait
That might be the tiniest jig I’ve ever seen a 4#+ eat. Crazy
I fished today around midlake area and had a little over 23lbs. Caught my biggest fish on a river ledge On a 6xd. She was post spawn already. Was long and had the head of a 9lber but only weighed a little under 8lbs. Caught a few other 3lbers on a crankbait then went shallow at 11am. Broke off one around 5lbs, caught one over 5, a 4, and a bunch of 2-3lb fish. Shallow fish came on a senko and trick worm, but they weren't fished "normal". I went back deep at 3 and found a small school in Tennessee bay. Caught a few 2lbers and had a big one bend my hook on my 6xd. All in all, a good day.
Went back to Cross Lake today where I was Saturday. Nothing to brag about. Caught this one on my new chartreuse sexy shad 1/2oz Project Z chatterbait with a Rage Swimmer trailer. Weighed almost a pound at 15oz. I lost my favorite chatterbait today, really sucks. My breaking bream Project Z is gone ? I'll get another one this weekend. Too good of a color. Gotta get another one. ?
I glance at this thread occasionally but I never post in it. My wife and I occasionally take hiking trips in the Rockies, and the Appalachians as well, so I thought this might be a good place to post some nature scenes we have captured along the way.
The pic below was one that was taken as we traveled to and from our lodging to Rocky Mountain National Park in 2015. This moose was one of many we captured hanging out in the Colorado River valley on the west side of the park.
Thank You Lord! FINALLY! I caught my first and second bass of 2018. Went to Cross Lake, this past Saturday with my sister and brother-in-law, and fished some cypress trees near the bank. My brother-in-law had a 7/8oz white/pearl/silver Booyah buzzbait with a 3.75" green pumpkin Rage Swimmer trailer tied on and I had a black/chartreuse H2O Express hollow body frog tied on. Within about 15-20 mins my brother-in-law caught a 2lb 12oz bass(not pictured). I hadn't even got a bite yet. So I said if they're biting a buzzbait surely they'll bite my chatterbait. Took off the frog and tied on my breaking bream 1/2oz Project Z with the green pumpkin Rage Swimmer trailer. Within my first 5 casts got my first one when a 1lb 12oz bass hammered the Project Z. She put up a little fight and I got awful close to getting wrapped up around a bridge piling. Was able to keep that from happening. A few more casts later another 1lb 12oz bass clobbered the Project Z. This time she came right on in without much fight at all. I'm off today and plan to go back there in hopes of catching a really big girl. Cross Lake recently started stocking the Florida strain. If nothing else, eventually there will be some big big girls in there. Just hope I'm there catching one of them when the time comes.
Almost a week with the boat and it is still in the garage, lol. Plan to take it out this weekend.
New pics. These is the fish finder setup. They are networked. Have the bow mounted fish finder on a cutting board mount I made. For the mounting, it is all Scotty parts. The final picture shows how I can fold it down when moving the boat.
The idea is that I can fish and control the fish finder standing up or sitting down... My have a pinched nerve in my back and it has been keeping from kayak fishing this new year. I don't want to bend down too much right now... I am not really a person who wants to sit down and fish, but I have to be responsible.
I want to mount the foot pedal now... But something says wait until I use it. What I want to do is mount it on a cutting boar or something that I can put bolts under and wingnuts on top. This way, I can remove the fishing finder when need to without the need of a screw driver... Well, I That means the transducer up front too. See, always a new variable.
Too much information can overload a new angler. My advice learn basic bass behavior and select 1 rod & reel combo and a few lures that you can fish effectively where fish.
Soft plastics are slow to fish, not very exciting, and very effective at catching bass.
Hard moving lures are more fun to fish and less effective at catching bass. You can do both with 1 outfit.
I teach new bass anglers using spinning tackle and a slip shot rig because it works.

Yes. Paul's channel, The Nature of Fishing, is top notch and very informative. If you want to know the "why" of bass behavior this one covers it in great detail.
Connect them all with the cable to travel in a line, put a honking treble hook on the last one and tow it behind your rig for mutant Muskie !
You did mention you we looking to fish a newly invented rig.
Well here ya go - presenting "The Kansas Quad Mallard Rig" . . . .

Hmm. As I look out the window at the 10 to 16 inches of that white crap coming down I realize that today I could learn whether a baitcasting rig or a spinning rig goes better with snowshoes ... or not!
No, not at all. The point and attempt is to keep questions and discussions about really popular topics like the Senko in the same thread to make finding it easier so folks can find the answers to their questions and share their experiences all in the same place.
This is an absolute monster fish!
Jeremy Wade, where are you? Larry D?

I know the feeling - I broke down and geared up with a fly rod.
Super fun and something I look forward to every summer.
When the bite is on - it's totally ridiculous.

Went out for a quick shore mission! Got my first good fish of the year! I’m soook happy! Caught it on a swimbait slow reeled up a drop off with pauses during my retrieve! Fish hit after a pause!
In reference to muddy/stained water. I have caught as many "big" fish in muddy water as I have in clear water. It changes the way you approach things for sure, but the fish are still there.
I believe Cat said this in an earlier post and it is one of the most true statements made on this forum; "Muddy water affects the fisherman more than the fish".
Bass water recon- I use my trucks Navigation system to "see" the water I can't see from the road...now if they could just add the bathymetry to those maps!
I could make a video of me catching, cooking, and eating a Kentucky spot and washing it down with beer before relaxing with 4 fingers of whiskey and dreaming about the proper way to rig senkos
