  3. Well, someone did their research. Didn't leave a screen name so I will just say thank you very much!!! I posted a report sometime this past summer where I believe I switched from bass fishing to pan fishing because the bass weren't biting. I coined the term Slonezp Rig for a Gulp minnow hanging underneath a bobber. The Slonezp Rig caught more bass than the bass baits I happened to be throwing that day. This is what I received...and again, Thank You!

  5. Hello from Maryland. I am sorry I had to do some upgrades to the computer and Windows 10 caused a bunch of issues. Since the last time on here I was put on medical retirement. Been a lot to get settled, but I actually went back to college after 35 years in the work force. Back then I studied computer programming and business administration. We did the programming using programs like DOS, BASIC, and Fortran. That involved "punch cards" LOL. I told the administrations advisor she might have to pull out the old microfiche and we both started laughing. She said she had not thought about that for at least 2 decades, and that if something in the microfiche was missing her coworkers would battle to see who had to go pull the actual paper records the teachers filled out. Those were located in huge filing cabinets. LOL! Now I walk in class and sit in front of a 22 inch all in one. Things have changed. Anyway I have another foot surgery scheduled for January and hopefully it will be my last in a series. If so, my wife and I will be planning a trip to Tennessee in spring. This will be a trolling trip for musky, walleye and smallies. I will also be looking for land to retire on in the future. Hi Glenn, Thanks, the issue was on my end not yours. It is good to be back around.

  6. Lately I've been spending a lot of time fishing a local power plant lake. It has been quite a time, I haven't experienced this sort of stuff on such a large scale before. There is a massive feeding frenzy taking place in the lake, I've fished for them twice now. It seems to be several acres of fish aggressively feeding on shad. They usually sit out deep over 40-50FOW, and there are a LOT of them. You can drop a blade or spoon to the bottom and catch bass in 50', throw a swimbait or a rig for the suspending fish that sit in the 10-20' range, AND catch them on topwater when they come up schooling. It is a mixture of largemouth, white perch, and both hybrid and "regular" stripers. There are also bass in the area pushing bait into the backs of coves, so while I'm out sitting in the middle of the lake, I watch the coves in case the water starts to erupt. The fish don't seem to relate to any sort of structure/contour, they just follow the food. I fished on Monday and on Wednesday. In that time, the frenzy moved about half a mile, pretty crazy stuff! The area where the graph was lit up top to bottom on Monday, was blank on Wednesday.

Ordered it before the last price bump, picked it up in NH so no sales tax, used a couple bills worth of BPS gift cards I was awarded at work, and signed up for a BPS card which gave me another $ 95 off. All of which is going with this All of which I can't wait to use to catch something like this, or bigger

  11. Remembering when our daughter went to be with the Lord a little over three years ago she would always around Christmas time bake cookies for friends and neighbors. She lived with us for quite some time in her battle fighting cancer and left many memories. Now I am not a baker but that little (poop) (bless her heart) has left it on my heart to do the same. It has taken some time and misfortunes but she made a simple shortbread cookie but had the timing down in the oven to the second.....OMG. So.....in the last two days I have made almost 20 dozen of the things and have ate my share.....I keep telling myself to restrain...and I hear her little voice saying "Get Away" but dannnnnng....they melt in your mouth. I'm also diabetic so this is a not win win situation...especially since I try to stay in somewhat shape. But this is my weakness to the tenth.... So.......confession is over......I will try to be good now.

  12. A bass's metabolism is finally tuned to its circulatory system temperature which is the same as the surrounding water temperature. In cold water their metabolism slows down, their brain slows down, so the bass slows down. In cold water a bass's instincts are less finely tuned, it has less appetite and it mostly stays suspended at or near the bottom. None of these means the bass will not strike moving lures like spinnerbaits or crankbaits. It does mean they will not chase it far, ya gonna have to hit on the head. Y'all ever head the term "strike zone"? Before a bass has completely digested what is in its stomach it will start hunting food regardless of water temperatures. Stability is more important than temperatures; as in stable weather! I don't care what the ambient temperature or water temperature is as long as the weather has been stable for 3 or 4 days. Bass DO NOT swim all over the lake seeking warm water.

  20. I started out with 16 packs in 4 different colors. Then I upped it and ordered 12 more packs in 4 other colors. I really like this bait. With the small #1 hook on the Berkley Half Heads it leaves a lot of bait after the hook. The bait is super soft and it should give a very nice action. In researching this bait online before purchasing I read numerous times where folks say that this bait will float/stand straight up as well. Not that I am 100% concerned about that because I used to use the BPS 3" Stik-O's which didn't stand up and I caught a ton of fish with those as well. The last bait I used was a 1/2 of a Missile Baits 48 worm which worked really well but once I found these new Roboworm baits I said goodbye to all of the others. I started out with the TRD's back in 2016 when they came out but I actually didn't like them a whole lot and sold all of them. Another thing I love about the Roboworms is the flat underside; that should give the bait a really nice gliding action on lighter jigheads. Roboworm has always made top quality baits and I think this new Ned Worm is well worthy of the Roboworm brand. I hope you and I both have MANY successes out on the water with these baits; I'm sure we will : )

  21. Caught a lunker winner in a club classic years ago that was 22" long, and only weighed 4.9 lbs. Very skinny. Girth and "shoulders" is everything for max weight. It's why it's so hard to really tell without a scale. And honestly, who catches enough true trophies to even know? Unless you're Tom!

  24. Welcome to BR. You will get plenty of good advice here, and you already have. I sent you a pm with some in detail info about fishing here in MD. I fish tidal bass, freshwater reservoirs and streams/rivers here in MD. During my tidal fishing I fish all of my rods and reels and just flush them occasionally. The Potomac, Upper Bay and rivers like Back River, Middle River, the Choptank, etc are not really full salty like an ocean. I use a lot of Diawa & Bass Pro baitcasters, and Pflueger spinning reels without any issues. I target bass and stripers, but often catch a lot of big blue cats and perch. If you are interested in talking MD fishing opportunities you are welcome to contact me and we can spend some time on the phone or in person.

  25. I disagree with this. As long as you are not financing a 25K boat, saving up and buying a modest, used boat is fine. Get the boat, learn how to rig it and do your maintenance and enjoy the time you fish with your grandfather. I bet you look back in 20 years and realize that your fondest memories with your grandfather were the times you spent fishing. You'll have moved on to a 20' fiberglass bassboat with all the bells and whistles but you'll reminisce about catching all those bass out of your 18' tin boat you had. With all that being said, obviously moguy is right about getting a a good education and a good career to afford the boat you want in the future. But saving up and buying a reasonably-priced used boat does not derail that plan. Hell, boats that we are talking about do not significantly lose their value from one year to the next. So you buy a 10-12 year old Tracker or some comparable boat and if needbe you sell it and get back most of your money. This is not a risky idea. Just make sure that you get the motor checked out and don't finance anything. Good luck.

  26. Got my package from @slonezp. A couple 3700 trays that you can never have enough of, a pliers/scissors kit that went straight into my kayak bag so I can get rid of the rusty multi-tool I'm cussing every time I have to try to use them, and a pack each of YUM Dingers and PitBosses, neither of which you can ever have too many of. Sorry for the not so great picture, it was the only one I took before I had the boxes filled up the pliers/scissors stowed away. Thank you slonezp!

  27. First thing please answer a few simple questions. What state do you live in and tell us what type of water is available for you. Do you want to fish small rivers, ponds, small to mid sized lakes or big lakes? slonezp is correct, a deeper Vee boat may be best for you from a safety point of view, especially if you are going to fish bigger and faster water. He is a great source of knowledge on the Lund boats. The downside to a Lund is finding one in your budget, however there are other good deep v boats that may be available cheaper, perhaps a good Alumacraft, Lowe, G3 etc even an old Grumman deep V as my friend Kris found a few years ago. Now if you want to fish slower moving water ( read safer to handle) such as small to mid sized lakes, slower running rivers ponds, reservoirs etc, than my suggestion is to look for a 17to 18 foot aluminum bass boat. These will be easier to find in your price range. I would stay away from fiberglass as your first real boat. A 17 foot aluminum with a 40 to 75 is an ideal first boat. These boats will be called a "mod V" boat and the 17 to 19 foot boats will have more beam and stability. Obviously Tracker is the most recognized brand, but Lowe, Alumacraft, G3, and many other manufacturers make these boats. Look for boats like these from Craigslist. https://allentown.craigslist.org/boa/d/bass-boat/6429356149.html https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/boa/d/bass-tracker-tx17-tournament/6421940849.html https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/boa/d/power-boat-with-trailer/6421936258.html My wife and I have fished out of tiny little 12 foot jon boats on reservoirs, several 15 and 17 foot aluminum mod v aluminum bass boats and several fiberglass rockets ships. I have caught as many fish out of our 4 different aluminum bass boats as I have out of the fancy fiberglass, however the maintenance on the fiberglass is much more involved. Here is what we currently have. It is a 17 1/2 foot Lowe bass boat. It is now powered by a 75 hp Mercury outboard. It runs in the high 30's to low 40's, is quite stable and we have fished on reservoirs, big 60 mile long lakes and fast moving tidal rivers including the Chesapeake Bay.

  34. I fish from the bank 95% of the time so generally only bring 1 setup. Currently using a tatula ct and the thing I really like about it is that I dont have to adjust brakes or spool tension at all for different lures. I plan on giving my tatula ct to my bro for christmas but I'm not sure what reel I should get myself. I was thinking of getting the tatula ct sv or even zillion sv but I dont like the reduced line capacity and I heard the sv spools reduce casting distance plus i rarely cast lures under 3/8 anyways so I dont know if the sv spool is beneficial. Or I was looking at the curado K but i'm worried I have to adjust spool tension every time I tie on a new lure

  38. I thought so but my eyes deceive me at times! To explain how far bass move let's look at the main lake. It is said the bass move into creeks during pre-spawn & this is partially true. But do you think all the bass out on the main lake move into the creeks? The bass out on the main live their entire lives never seeing a shoreline. Negreet is a pretty long creek, do you think the bass out near the back move all the way to the front? How far do they move? I seen radio telemetry studies that show some bass seldom move great distances while others move quite far. I don't think anybody can definitely put a number on how far! I do know from experience I've caught bass from the mouth of Negreet to the back year round. Confused yet? I am! ?

  42. I've never fished a highland impoundment, that said if you go to any of the Swimbait forums you will see that Slammers are consistently catching them everywhere guys fish for Bass and are one of the most revered big baits . I fish a lot of clear natural lakes in Michigan, most of them have weed cover and they get slammed. Fish it with a slow steady wake, you can twitch it or crank it down or a combination of all 3 . It's also a terrific option when fishing at night. If you are tempted to try big baits this would be a great one to start out with . 43. I can't tell you the quality or quantity of bass I've lost by not setting the hook fast enough. I can however tell you endless stories about losing bass every season b/c I was too fast on setting the hook. Watch enough pro seminars and you'll hear them all tell stories of trying to shake fish off a lure during practice b/c they want to come back and catch them during the tourny. They all are amazing how long a bass will hold on and swim around with a lure in its mouth even while they're trying to shake it off (try it sometime). Greg Hackney went into detail about how his hook up percentage was amazing during practice but went way down on game day. He admitted it was b/c he's so much faster and full of adrenaline during tournaments that bass never has time to fully take/commit to the lure. Compared to being relaxed and consciencience of the fish/specific bite during practice. He slowed way down during tournaments and his percentages went back up. I've since become more aware of different types of bites, which seem to change daily. For me not setting the hook fast enough is rarely a problem vs setting it too fast usually is.

  44. That's just his running style. It's maddening to watch him seemingly just stand in the backfield waiting for a hole to open and then blowing through it. He's been a mystery that KC can't even begin to figure out when they've met.

  45. I hook some in the sides on jigging spoons every winter. I think they miss the bait on the fall and their momentum carries them over the top of bait, then it gets them next time I lift it. Just a possibility on how it could happen. The base of those fins are surprisingly tough. She's obviously been eating good!

  46. Still working on it. I'm painfully aware of it. No ETA on a fix yet, as it's extremely complicated. The good news is that the periods of slowness have reduced. So we're chipping away at it.

  49. Start looking yourself - don't wait for the realtor to find it for you. I'm certainly no expert but after 3 buying three homes (in different states) I've learned that I know I can depend on ME. So I put the time in and eventually found what I was looking for each time. Like any venture, knowledge is confidence. Learn as much as you can about the process and hire your own inspector, not one recommended by the realtor. Finally, you are going to PAY whatever relator you use, and pay them well. Get your money's worth by using someone you like, trust and especially, one you believe has your best interest at heart. Many Don't - Co-worker or not. Good Luck. A-Jay
