  1. This is my girlfriend's son's brother-in-law. He just sent this pic to me of him and a nice 9.11lb bass he caught with a watermelon red flake brush hog on Lake Kincaid about 15-20 miles or so from where I live in Pineville. He was out night fishing with his uncle in his uncle's boat last weekend. I really need to get out in a boat and do some night fishing.

  2. The bite is still going strong here in upstate NY. Yes, that is a Chug Bug stuck to my jeans. And they're still hitting on top. Caught one with a gnarly scar. All fish caught had bellies like this.

  4. I make an all orange bladed jig. It's a killer on a couple lakes, but I'm not telling which ones I do the same with a buzzbait also. This is my trailer for it.

  5. I've decided to roll the dice and picked up a couple of these to compare and contrast to my current Rapala and Strike King arsenal. I also plan on getting some Pointer 78's and 100's in the chartreuse shad and pearl ayu patterns to round out the arsenal.

  9. A professional angler knows how important line is, it can be the difference between earning a check. Being a big bass angler line is critical it's the link between the bass and me, line failure could be loosing a bass of a lifetime. In both cases what price do you put on on not changing your line? I check my line and knots continuously for any defects and retie or replace my line or retie knots if I detect a defect like a kink, shinny flat spot, abrasion and impact strength. How often depends on defects and usage. Tom

  14. Did some fishing early this morning and this afternoon. Within the first 30 mins of being there, throwing my black and blue 3/8oz chatter bait with a watermelon red flake super fluke trailer, I got a massive hit. Bam! Set the hook! Oh wow it's a big un! I was pulling and reeling and it didn't seem to put up any fight but the weight felt like 8lbs or better. Kept pulling and reeling and finally it surfaced and I was like "you've got to be kidding me!" It was a freakin' big turtle...lol! First turtle I've ever caught. I did catch a little dink later on. Things just haven't been working out the greatest for me lately.

  16. When I'm fishing weed lines, and drop off I like to keep the wind to my back and let it slowly push me along, staying off the trolling motor and in stealth mode. I often put out a drift bag to slow my movement. This has helped me catch fish in silence when they are in a spooky mood. Excellant when conditions are right.

  17. Heck yeah! Hit a shore fishing, heavy current spot that is extremely hit or miss, but has kicked out some nice fall steelhead for me in the past. Worked the usual runs to the left and right and nothing. Never fished the fastest middle current before so I started working that and it didn't take long before I felt a hard strike. Fought the fish for a while before I was able to get her netted. 18 inch chrome hen. Looking like the steelhead fishing has begun. Weapon of choice was purple nautical creations 1 oz spinner. Fish On

  18. First time I was going to fish Cayuga Lake in upstate NY in the fall I stopped off at a local B&T shop and the owner recommended orange & brown colored baits. I had never thought about those colors before. Tried it and caught many big largemouths on spinnerbaits and crankbaits in those colors.

  19. I wouldn't mind that at all! It's always good to change scenery and experience new things. It would be a once in a while thing but I'd fish it.

  20. I know many of you do not like spinning reels, but I've been using them since I was a kid. Anyway, here are couple of unusual spinning reels I have. The blue reel is a Mitchell 440A. It has an automatic bail. This was one of my "extra" reels when I started fishing as a kid. My dad had one of these, and I bought a couple to use and an extra one "just in case" (of course, it took a while to earn the money needed to buy them). The bail opens automatically when you push on it if it is in the correct position. It allows one-handed operation of the reel when casting. The anti-reverse is noisy though and there is a lot of friction when reeling compared to modern spinning reels. The gray one is a Quantum Hypercast HPX30. It has a lever for handling the bail. I only used this twice because I could never figure out how to disengage the anti-reverse. I don't use either one anymore. I just keep them around for memories.

  27. Won a few swimbaits in a raffle this week. Got my first one in the mail today, a WSB rat. Wow is it a big bait! Next to a 7", 3oz Deps 175 for scale. Hope to get it wet soon to see if I can find any big mommas putting on the fall feed bag.

  30. didn't catch many but all bites on a jig. Around 11 o'clock I left the other rods alone and practiced skipping the jig with the BC. getting pretty good as long as my thumb complies. This is a 3# with a 4# head, as you can tell they haven't really started feeding up yet.

  31. Got out twice in the last 2 weeks, including last monday pm..Total of 20 fish caught,18 on some variety of plastic worm.Caught the most on a 4 inch lucky strike tequila worm ,including the pictured fish. Theyre biting better than the summer, but not as good as true fall. They seem to be hungry for nothing but worms. I did get a couple today on the small zoom fluke . Had one fish break off when I had a backlash and was trying to pick it out. Tried to hand line the fish in but he broke it.

  32. Well it's been a couple weeks or so since I've caught anything a pound or more. I've caught some major dinks, we're talking not even an ounce. Didn't bother with taking any pics of those. Since the daytime bite has been almost nonexistent, I desided to risk encounters with snakes and fished the smaller pond by my house tonight with my headlamp on. Took both my Lew's baitcaster with a 3/8oz black and blue chatter bait/watermelon red flake Super Fluke trailer tied on and my Lew's spinning rod with a 12" blackberry Mann's jelly worm tied on. Nothing doing with the chatter bait, but I did catch this 1lb 1oz 14g keeper size on the 12" jelly worm. First one I've caught on that worm. I pitched it at the ponds pump and almost immediately he hit it. Being as dark as it was, with the exception of the almost full moon, it was kinda hard to take a selfie. I managed these two pics. I guess they turned out ok. I know I say this alot, but I'm sure ready for some cooler weather and more active bass. ?

  33. I don't visit Facebook much anymore. It's just a bunch of gossiping housewives making up stories and rumors just to get somebody to say "OMG!!!" Just garbage. People desperately looking for attention will say anything. And the lack of basic knowledge...wow! Earlier this week, I read somebody's post saying America sends help to "third world countries like Puerto Rico when nobody sends help to the U.S. for hurricanes." Ummmm...... And then there's the endless fighting and drama. You post something, and it's open season for personal attacks. The lack of respect is appalling. So....I gotta think people in other countries love FB for it's entertainment value. "Just look at the dumb Americans bickering amongst each other!" Well, not here. Fishing is an escape and a form of relaxation for most people. And so too is this site.

  35. "Buy what you can afford" There a magic word. You get a lot of hateful comments becuz you said if someone spent triple digit and not getting 3 combo is wrong.

  36. There's definitely two sides to this coin. On one hand you have the guys that won't even consider gear outside of certain select brands and only their flagship top of the line products. Then you have guys that think super low budget gear is just as good and there is no reason to spend money on those items. In reality you do get what you pay for most of the time, and while the returns get less as you go up the ladder in price they are still there, to not acknowledge them at all is just silly. I think most of us here fall into the category of "buy what you can afford". There are plenty of great options at all price ranges and all budgets. All will catch fish, but not all are equal in performance. The backlash you got seems extreme and completely unwarranted, but the "If you're spending triple digits and NOT getting 3 combos you're doing it wrong" comment I think is probably what set people off. Sure you can absolutely get 3 combos for a hundred bucks and do great with them but to say upgrading beyond that is "doing it wrong" comes off poorly IMO.

  48. And you made my point by taking offense to exactly what you did on FB. So you have done exactly what you accused others of. Maybe get a little sense of humor going and be not so serious. Just as you did not like the comment about "cheap junk" though it was clearly teasing, others might not like being told they waste their money buying and using quality equipment. See it works both ways.
