  2. Maybe it's some kind of joke ? ? ? Either way, sounds like real nice fella ~ inviting you up to his place a few times a year and all. In return, I suppose it's only right for you to repay that kind of generosity. Perhaps you could help him out by advertising his place there in Muskegon, MI for rent at a super low price. Don't forget to state that because he works very off hours he can only take phone calls regarding this between 2 - 5 AM. I'm betting he'll appreciate this gesture quite a bit. A-Jay

  6. I'll admit it; I'm a tube junkie. I know it isn't a popular bait, but that isn't because it doesn't produce results. Just the opposite, sometimes it'll outproduce other, more conventional, soft plastics. One of those times is when it's rigged on a C-rig and allowed to float off the bottom. There is a way to get all but the smallest tubes to float, even if they don't do so on their own. Poster boards made from pressed styrofoam make for great, small inserts that will float almost any size tube. Just cut a strip about 1/8in. wide. Insert it halfway into the tube of your choice and cut, or break it where it exits the tube body. You can add a drop of super glue to hold it in place, or if you're T-rigging it the hook will hold it in place. This also works great for using a tube as a soft topwater presentation if you ever run out of hollow body frogs, or you want a smaller profile topwater.

  8. Had a blast at Wolf yesterday. Caught 2 hybrids, 20 whites, 13 crappie all in that 15" range. It is crazy throwing 15" crappie back after having a 2 man limit. More drum than anyone should ever see in there life. 20 or so smallness with the biggest being in the 16" range. 3 big catfish with this one being the biggest. We got enough fish for the family fish fry.

  12. I don't think your seeing what is being said to you...what advice are you looking for? Do you want to babysit her so she's not "pissy", your word, and every time you go fishing or leave the house you know your coming home to "pissy"...sounds like it might take a little fun out of a fishing trip. She's a big girl, if she can't find something to occupy her own time, your gonna be "working this out" for the rest of your life. She's not even my girlfriend and I just broke up with her.

  18. I went up to Muskegon, MI for the walleye opener and stayed at a friends place. I took him out on the water at midnight and I hooked a beauty of a smallmouth, 4lb.12oz. He landed it and I took a photo with his smartphone. After weighing it and before I could get a pic of myself and the fish, he released it! What's worse, he posted the pic on social media saying HE caught it. He has up to his place a couple of times a year, but I'm thinking of declining next time. Thoughts?

  19. Please don't take this as me being a jerk off, but you need to think about why your with her. It's not your job, as a young man, to find her hobbies because she's bored. I think most of us have been there, done that, with this type of girl, and I will honestly tell you, get away while you can.

  20. If by "rage" you mean swear cuss curse stomp around throw things break rod over knee and generally act like an idiot then the answer is... never. For me fishing=relaxation. When I lose a nice fish I don't get mad, but my heart breaks and I feel sick to my stomach.

  21. Every fish is different. Every situation is different. However, while I know that pike, walleye, snakeheads, smallmouth, and others will hit more than once...even on same retrieve....I have zero confidence that a LMB will hit a lure soon after getting a good taste or tug and spitting it. As I said, every fish is different, and I have no clue what the average memory span might be, but I wouldn't hope to hook it again in the next half hour or more. Bumping and swiping are completely different, though. BTW, are you any relation? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_XSdBa1ZNw JK....sry

  22. Got an extra crystal ball laying around so we can tell when someone is going to be a one post wonder? If folks would leave them alone instead of feeding the trolls and bumping the post they could quietly retreat back to the basement and complain that nobody wants to play with them.

  23. I recently changed from that to an app for my phone (Android) called "Thing Counter" because it lets me count catch per lure type. It also gives voice feedback, which I smile at every time I add a fish & hear that robotic voice say "5 Ned Rig" or "3 Shakey Craw".

  29. We had a fairly decent day out on the Quabbin this past Sunday. We were fishing right after a cold front came through and knocked air temps down almost 30 degrees so I had tempered my expectations a bit as far as the bass fishing went.. We got out from the ramp around 7:30AM to blue mostly sunny skies and air temps in the lower 40's, it gradually warmed up to about 55 degrees throughout the day, lots of clouds moved in and around noon time we were getting rained on and had a period of thunder and downpours. Winds stayed relatively calm and manageable, so that was a positive. Water temps fluctuated from 54 degrees to 60 degrees in the shallow cove we fished at the end of the day. 18 smallmouth bass and 1 yellow perch caught between my friend and I, biggest 5 smallies went 4.83, 4.2, 3.91, 3.84, and 3.6 - not half bad... really wanted to break that 5lb mark but we didn't. lots of 2.5-3lb fish, they looked nice and healthy for the most part... no signs of spawning yet other than the 1 SMB we caught up real shallow in 60 degree water... but he wasn't even bedding yet I don't believe, just getting close. It took us a little while to figure them out.. there were some fish up shallow that we caught on jerkbaits but it was pretty slow fishing until we moved out a bit deeper and started targeting water that dropped off quickly from shallow water to 15-20 feet, even once we figured out a bit of a pattern location was extremely important... one drop off we were fishing we pulled 9 bass up in about a 30 minute period.. we were both casting to the same exact spot and for a while it was fast and furious action.. if you weren't hitting this location precisely with your cast you weren't catching fish. Anyways, here's some pictures: This was the lunker on the day..4.8lbs 4.2lbs Same 4.2lber Nice and healthy.. 3.84lbs Third biggest on the day... sadly this was the longest in length we caught, but only weighed 3.9lbs.. if you look at the photo you can see why; Someone gut hooked it a while back and it's actively trying to pass a senko complete with hook and fishing line.. fish was very skinny compared to others we caught. We tried to help it out a bit but after trying to remove the hook decided we didn't want to injure it further, so we just clipped the fishing line off the hook and released it. A little earlier in the day when it was nicer out.. this was the cookie cutter size we were catching And this was our final fish of the day, up in a shallow 60 degree cove.. Not sure if it was getting ready to bed or what... I expected largemouth to be inhabiting this area but we caught 2 smallies in 3-4 feet of very stained (for the quabbin anyway) water on topwater. Could've been better, could've been worse but all in all a fun trip. I'll be getting back out there in the coming weeks as well... they should be getting more and more aggressive as the temperatures creep up and they start spawning.

  31. Well I took this past weekend off to do some fishing on my birthday weekend. Ended up being a stay at home with the family weekend thanks to the beautiful weather. I fished La Cygne on Thursday. The crappie were just stupid, eating everything that touched the water. Never had an issue with crappie like that before, couldn't even get a bait to the bass. I did sneak one decent one on a jerkbait before I got tired of fighting with the crappie and left. I tried to go to Pleasanton West, which is usually good for a couple nice fish if you only have a short time. I lost a 3 pounder off the pier by the ramp, and that was the closest I got to catching a fish there. I had a really hard bite on a jig, hammered a very solid feeling fish, then it was gone, would have liked to at least see that one. Friday I decided to explore Clinton for the first time. Conditions were less than ideal, but I was still pretty happy with my results. I missed getting several fish on film because my remote wasn't working and the persistent rain falling.

  32. I guys and gals, My name is Tony (alaskanhawg) and Im semi new to bass fishing and still learning. I served in the Military since I was 19 (2004) and got out at the end of 2015 due to injuries sustained during my service and now the VA says I am 100% Disabled. I have always loved fishing but never seemed to have the time for it but now that I am out of the military I am in full fish mode. In May 2016 I bought a 2011 Nitro Z6 and thought I would learn how to bass fish. Now I am addicted and it is costing a ton of money, LOL. I have outfitted my boat with the Helix 9 Gen 1 and Helix 7 G2N. I am looking forward to learning a lot here to help me in the Club Tournament scene. I am also looking forward to making my own Jigs and Rods. I look forward to being a part of this forum and the bass fishing community.

  33. I have 5 12" pegs on my pegboard filled with 2 different colors of Pit Bosses and I'm always on the hunt for more since they discontinued them. There's 3 more of those pegs with other assorted colors of Pit Bosses too. The Flat Dawg, Deuce, Subwoofer, Grass Pig, Jerk, Rocket Craw, Devil's Spear, carry a bunch of all of them and use them a lot. I hate what they're doing with pushing the more popular baits to the Powerbait lineup. One of the biggest appealing factors about them is the price of the lineup, but that goes away when they nearly double in price just because they put powerbait scent on them.

  34. Hey guys, I'm new here. Really just started taking fishing seriously within the last couple years. What I've used over the last 5-6 years or so was just a 2 piece ugly stick with a president 6940 spinning reel with some vanish fluorocarbon on it. Has done everything i needed it to do but it was time to expand my skill set. Picked these two up not too long ago. 7' medium Abu Garcia Veracity spinning rod with a Pfleuger president XT 40 series reel. This joker is LIGHT and is super nice to use. I like bigger spinning reels, i know a lot of guys stick to 2000-2500 series but 4000 works well for me. This is my do whatever I want rod, good with top water but good for spinners/cranks/finesse as well. And then my first baitcasting setup Abu Garcia Revo SX left hand retrieve with a 6'6 MH ugly stik elite. I went cheaper on the rod but i plan on probably getting the same rod i have for my spinner as my BC setup as well sooner or later. Now that I've got BC down for the most part, i'm putting some 40 lb 832 braid on it. This is my top water rod.

  36. Adam Lexington, KY No way I could narrow it down to just one question. I'd just say thanks for being such a great ambassador to the sport and an inspiration for so many. One of my pro fishing idols growing up. Used to go over to my gf's house every Saturday morning (cause they had cable) as a teenager to watch the fishing shows. Hank's was always my favorite.

  38. Do a search as there are a bunch of posts about this already. What i will say is find a shop that has demo boats available and try as many as you can before you buy. There is a learning curve but that will be over in short order if you get out enough. I have been fishing out of a kayak for 10+ years and I will say buy a decent boat first, doesn't have to be some 2k pedal drive beast either, and you will be happier in the long run and not feel the need to upgrade. There are so many good boats out there now to choose from that you really can't go wrong....also factor in a paddle, PFD and how you are going to transport the kayak into your budget.

  39. This is why I practice in a walmart parking lot and also why I launch after the morning rush. No matter what there's going to be some DBs out there who are impatient. They need to deal with it. If I was trying to launch while other boats were waiting on me to start their tournament that would be a completely different scenario and I'd be the yahoo. This is not the case. Some guy giving me dirty looks when I'm just trying to learn during non-peak hours is the jack-off in this case.
