  1. The double digits club! 11.30lbs monster. Caught in Tallahassee, FL on a black trickworm. First big fish on my NRX 852s & '16 Stradic CI4+. The combo handled it like a champ. I'm going to be smiling for days! I always told myself I would never keep a fish under 10lbs. This one is going to the taxidermist in the morning.

  2. hello i was hoping to get some help with determining if this is big or small mouth bass. it measured 23.5 inches and on a scale it was between 7 and 8 lbs. it is a older sprig loaded scale. it was caught by my 9 yr. old gradson on his little pole with a senco. the hook barely held on to a piece of skin in its mouth. very lucky to get it in. caught in antioch ca. yesterday afternoon. in a local resivoir. thanks.

  4. This weekend was a big weekend for me. Put up the peg board and organized what I could with the few pegs I had to make room for the new boat (new to me). My first boat and I couldn't be any happier.

  5. Big fan of ryes? I am not, unless they get to a certain point where the aging lets the spice/rye notes on the back end mellow out a bit. That being said, the standard 10yr Whistle Pig is a great pour and one that I do like. It is 10 yr ,100% rye and bottled at 100 proof. If you are a big fan of fruitiness, or look for specific fruit notes, this one might not be for you. It does emit on the nose and palate strong vanilla, which I like, and has a nice long rye finish. It is a must try if you have never had it, and one of it's big sisters- Old World 12 yr- is in my top 3 ryes. It has a mixture of 3 different types of wine barrel finishes(Port, Madeira, and Sauterne) mixed in with 2/3ish of the standard Whistle Pig. In this release, the fruit notes seem to really pop, and the pour turns to velvet. Really smooth and very drinkable, just the price point jumps a bit to around $120. Jeff

  6. Spent four hours on the river with nothing to show but a microscopic spot that somehow pinned himself on the trailer hook of my spinnerbait. Made a stop on my way back to the dock at a spot that usually will produce a walleye at dusk, but this guy found his way to the 4" swing impact instead! Any day on the river in Morgantown that you catch a bass over 12" is a good day. Man, I need to get home for thanksgiving and remember what bass fishing is.

  7. Waterproof boxes are great at trapping moisture and promoting rust. The only thing they're good for is keeping something dry that you'll never or rarely have to open up, but will be exposed to water. For baits, air flow is important to avoid rust. The best are the perforated boxes from Plano.

  8. Rock bass will bite a 5 inch senko. If I'm fishing a senko 99% of the time it's a 5 inch.

  15. I have read many guys complaining about stuck cases because of the coatings on the steel, and it shoots really dirty. I shot some through my .40 and it was chugging so much black smoke it looked like a .40 power stroke!

  17. beat me to it... almost seems counter intuitive, but the hydraflo boxes are great at letting all the moisture out and keeping the rust away.

  18. I have not tried the Old World, but this description is spot on for the regular Whistle Pig. It's easily one of my favorite ryes and one that you don't need to be crazy about ryes to enjoy. Super smooth, very clean, and while the rye bite is present, at no point is it really over powering.

  19. I really like the 621, but what I like more is how careless I can be with my tin. I think my next boat will be a 2175 Pro-V.

  20. It is still a work in progress this fall... I have about another month of fishing before ice up. Its crunch time ! Only 100% sure way to find out would be to kill it and I don't want to do that. I am pretty confident that you would find that fish full of Smelt. I was fishing around huge schools of them and most of the fish were spitting them up on the way in.

  21. The boat's V? The few Carolina Skiff I've seen were all flat bottom. My son has trim tabs on his 20' flats boat and they are great, but his are hydraulic and he can raise them any time he needs to. Your concern over them getting hung in a sandbar when down is a valid one. There have been a few times he has forgotten to raise his and they would hang the bottom in shallows when backing up.

  22. Definitely your answer! I gave a pair on my 1652 Alweld, helps holeshot even in shallow water, increased top end & eliminated porpoising. And yes they are adjustable!

  23. Bought a ground blind and got it set up yesterday morning, hunted last night in the wind and 70 degree temps. Had a little fork hop the fence and spend the night trying to figure out what my blind was but he never spooked despite being downwind the entire night, so that was encouraging. It's cool to be able to get dressed, leave the house, and be hunting in 5 minutes too.

  26. Busy Guy, just my humble opinion, but last spring was not normal. I was here for Christmas and the water was 65 degrees. I really think most of the fish spawned earlier than normal. Looks like another mild winter. About the time it was about to get right last spring for the usual spawn and probably for the last time the flood jacked it all up. The fall pattern is way late in my opinion too. I still wish they would lie and rank it 20th or so

  27. The problem is this. Once you get a high end reel, the rest of yours will feel like crap. You will never want to use them again and might find yourself wanting to upgrade all of your reels and that will be an expensive propisition.

  29. Drove a silly distance out of my way home from a trip to visit Susquehanna Fishing Tackle. Living in a saltwater-dominated area, a bass-focused store is overwhelming. I made the mistake of handling the new CI4+ spinning reels, now trying to figure out how to swing replacing all my spinning combos with them.

  33. @Thefrog22 and I returned from our East KS Bassmasters club championship at LOZ this weekend. Went out of Red Oak, an area that neither of us had fished before. I've fished up from 15mm-4mm and he's fished the opposite direction. We got up there Friday and had the afternoon to pre fish. Didn't really put anything together, it was a weird day but still caught a few fish. From what another member told us it was definitely a morning deal. To make a stupid long report short, we weighed in 4 fish on Saturday (Keith carried us), for around 10 1/2 lbs. They were pretty deep in the brush. I just couldn't catch a keeper. Sunday was the complete opposite-I had our first keeper within 30 mins or so, and two more before 11:30. Right around then, the cold front started moving through and the bite shut off like a light switch for us. So all in all, we finished both days with about 16.4 lbs, which was good for 6th place for both of us (boater and non boater) out of 15 teams. For the entire season, our first year fishing with EKB, I think Keith will end up 5th or 6th for boaters, and I'll be 8th for non boaters. Not too shabby of a season with a top 10 finish for us both. So true.

  35. Some years, when my ponds have had heavy hatch years of bass fry, UL and 1+" jig/grub combos have worked (Sassy Shad, Twister), as have streamer flies with fly tackle. But my fish were never as big -up to 4lbs. Are you certain the bigger fish are targeting the fry? It can be difficult for larger bass to keep tiny fish from escaping through the gills. In the UW video I've been doing, the fry (1 to 2") are targeted by bass up to about 13". Bigger bass are after the younger bass that are targeting the fry. Maybe go ahead and try live-lining, just to be sure. Or, with prey that small, a stomach pump would work well. I often use them for trout, just upping tube size for bigger trout/prey. Also, keep in mind a few things: Sight-fishing, or fishing to busting fish, can be esp frustrating bc lures rarely look like actual food, esp with repeated exposure. And, some bass are simply "immune to angling". Such fish may be most vulnerable under reduced visibility. Maybe wait for a dark overcast day. I'd stick with lures that give few negative cues: swim jigs, soft jerks, and... here's one few people seem to know about: the Lit'l Fishie now sold by Creme. It's a tiny to small swimbait that I found bass and walleye have a really difficult time learning. Great lure.

  43. Poe's Top Raider has been around much longer than the Whopper Plopper and I'm sure there are others before my time. I even recall a show segment with LD dropping Poe's name. There isn't really anything "new" hitting the markets anymore. It's a modification or tweak to something that has already been done. That's why I don't understand when people get their panties in a wad over a newly released lure that are strikingly similar to another. It's been happening for decades, it will continue to happen for ever. Now let's see this "new" invention...

  44. 4lbs, decent size. Toho is full of biggins but when the conditions are like it's been it's a little tougher. when it gets that windy I usually fish the mouth of shingle creek. Never caught a real big one in the creek though but I catch keeper quality fish often enough.

  45. Whopper Plopper isn't a new lure. It was originally designed as a musky lure and downsized for the bass market, and Larry Dahlberg has a bit more credibility in the fishing word than the OP
