  2. I finally get to update my PB!! Caught this hawg on Little Lake Harris on the Harris Chain near Orlando. This was Friday night, right after a bad storm blew through - I was on the water as the storm clouds were crossing the other side of the lake. The bite was active as all get out - landed 3 fish in 2 hours, and a baby alligator. That's a lot of action for this high pressured lake.

  3. Hit the Chattahoochee early Saturday AM with a buddy we floated until late afternoon and we had a great time. We put in at the Morgan Falls Dam and floated down to the Cochran Shoals area. Fished right at the dam in hopes of hooking into some Stripers, but no luck with that. However, my buddy hooked a nice largemouth right as we launched, it was right around 3.5 lbs. Went on to catch a few small spotted bass as we floated on down, all around the 1lb mark. Not far from the takeout point I made a couple casts into a really good looking little pool behind some big brush piles. Had a 1/4oz terminator spinnerbait with the single oklahoma blade and a zoom chartreuse single tail grub tied on. For a second i thought i had got snagged on a log until that "log" almost jerked the rod out of my hands!! A short fight ensued and before long i had it in the kayak. It was a bruiser bass, really nice sized spot for the river that went right at 2.9 lbs! Ended up with 9 bass between the 2 of us and had a really good time, despite the blazing temps!

  5. This story doesn't add up at all. I mean really, why would you bury a rod in your neighbors yard underneath "moss and stones" that are going to damage or break your rod. And most people are going to notice a seven foot long strip of ground where something was buried, unless you found a "lite" seven foot long stone to cover it with, so if it really was stolen it could be someone else.

  9. I'm pretty sure its not legal (in any state) to leave a rod & reel with fishing line and a baited hook in the water unattended. If it was in Pennsylvania the fish commission warden would have every right to take the rod and reel but he definitely would not have left the fishing line in the water.

  10. Being from the Midwest, I've done a lot of quarry diving. It is where I was first introduced to the extreme difference above and below the thermocline. Every quarry I have been in has been in the forties or fifties below the thermocline. Without a neoprene hoodie or a dry suit, a nice ice cream headache is inevitable. If the bass are there, they will be wearing parkas when you catch them. To give you an idea, here are the July 15 numbers from Mermet Springs. 12. I have noticed that for me, some of the username photo's cause me to connect other members to things that may or may not have any bearing in reality. For example: Team9Nine - That scientist image makes me think that everything you post is 100% correct, backed up by years of research. I assign credibility to all of your writings based solely on the impact of that image. This was helpful when I learned to fish a Ned rig, for I just followed your instructions & recommendations to the letter and it has produced big time. ScaleFace - On her desk, my mom has a picture of me at a young age holding a stringer of fish, a picture that looks similar to your username photo. Therefore, I always think you & I are the same age and would be good fishing partners, even though I really know nothing about you. I don't believe we are related & I don't think I have any missing siblings. .ghoti. - The user photo looks remarkably like my high school vice principal, so I tend to avoid reading your posts. There is nothing wrong with you, the image or your posts, I just can't get by the resemblance and it brings up many memories of me getting in trouble. Definitely a "me" problem, not a "you" problem. Do any other username photo's illicit reactions for you? Don't bag on anyone for their photo, I don't want to get this thread locked.

  14. Just want to point out the difference between oxygen O2 and dissolved oxygen DO. Most fish including bass can't breath O2, the oxygen must be dissolved into the water for the gills to oxygenate the blood. When vegetation dies and sinks down to the bottom it decays, the decaying process uses DO depleting it unless more DO is replaced by living green aquatic plants or current mixing DO through wave action or moving water like a river. During warm water periods the surface water warms faster in sallow water, being lighter weight the warm water tends to stay near the surface sinking slowly. For this reason during the summer the surface water is warm, the deeper color, the zone where warm water can't sink into colder water is called a thermocline. Because aquatic green plants need sunlight they don't grow deeper than light can penetrate, so no DO is being produced. The warmer surface water with higher levels of DO doesn't mix with the colder water unless there is current, decaying debris depletes the deep cold water DO levels. Bottom line bass rarely go deeper than comfortable DO levels. During the cold water periods the water column cools until until surface water becomes colder than the deeper water and the lake turns over mixing the entire water column. The DO levels mix and bass can go whatever depth they choose to find prey. Preferred depth is seasonal. Tom

  16. I’ve recently applied a minor update. In line with our aim to make incremental improvements in each release, I wanted to go over a few of the small but useful changes to the personal messenger that you'll find with a recent update. Read/unread filtering The first improvement is that you can now filter the message list by read and unread, making it a little easier to browse through just the messages you're interested in. Search improvements Next up, the messenger search has been improved in a couple of ways; first, you can now also search the names of both the recipients and the senders, and second, we've added a menu so you can specify which fields in particular you want to search by. Easier moving Finally, we've added a popular request - the ability to use the mass-move tool inside the messenger. You can now check multiple messages, and the usual mass-action toolbar will appear that will allow you either move them to another folder, or, has been the case in the past, delete them. While these are each small improvements by themselves, we hope the incremental changes in each release add up to a more pleasant experience for you. Known Issue Some members using tablets are experiencing an issue where the thread titles are “vertical” like the screenshot below. A fix is in the works, and we’ll apply it as soon as it’s been thoroughly tested. Apologies for the hassle.

  17. Started fishing around 11 am didn't get my first bite till 3. Was fishing a deep drop shot off a point. Decided to throw the jig in some heavy pennywort. Usually this is very productive earlier in the year and come summer the big bass are deep. I cast my jig way back in the dense foliage, jiggle and BAM. Fished pulled a bunch of drag! What a surprise. She was just hunkerd up in the pennywort right off tha same point I was fishing but instead of out on a rock pile in 30 fow she was up shallow! Didn't get a weight but she was 23.5 inches

  22. Check this out http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/thermocline.html One other cool thing to mention is that while you are diving, the thermocline can be so distinct that you can see a disruption in the water maybe a couple of inches thick. Hard to explain what it looks like, but it always reminded me of the movies where a guy is looking out at the horizon in the desert and the heat can be seen moving on the sand.

  24. I assume it's just the OKC location because they're doing a lot of rearranging of the store, but our Cabela's had some UNBELIEVABLE sales in fishing today... We're talking KVD jerkbaits for $1.88, war eagle jigs for $0.88, arashi crankbaits and sq bills for $3.88, arashi deep for $5.88, 10XD for $8.99, 8XD for $7.99, megabass knuckle for $6, vision 110+ for $15, etc... WOW! If I didn't restrain myself I would have spend a couple hundred bucks on stuff, but I already have more than I can fit in my tackle bag. I still left with a whole lot of goodies though (good colors too), so I'm happy! edit: just figured that what I got today would have ran me about $200 on TW, I spent $80...

  25. Got out for a few hours this morning to a lake I fished and did fairly well in 2014. I ended up having a good morning on the water. Got to the lake just before 5:00 AM, right before the sun was coming up. I caught two bass within the first couple minutes, and had a couple boils at the Pop Max. The lake seemed very active right from the beginning. After the sun came up and as we worked our way down the shoreline, several missed frog blow-ups finally resulted in a hook-up. Got this girl on a Booyah Pad Crasher Jr. I had a couple more violent frog blow-ups but no hook-ups before the frog action stopped completely, as the sun was getting higher in the sky. We stopped the froggin' but it didn't take long to find more fish. I got a few more decent LMBs skipping docks with wacky senkos. Had a loon following the boat around for part of the morning. He would pop up a couple dozen yards from the boat, and dive back down only to reappear 20 minutes later right near us at a new spot. We started heading in as the action slowed and the sun started getting hot. A couple hundred yards before the boat launch we stopped at a spot we had tried earlier in the morning with no bites. Its a downed tree with lots of limbs and branches on a steep drop off. The end of the tree lies in about 18' of water. Its a good looking spot, but after spending a good amount of time on it a couple hours earlier with nothing, I wasn't too hopeful, but really wanted to end the day with a fish. A few minutes went by throwing to this tree with nothing again. Just as we were getting ready to quit, I pitched a Texas-rigged junebug colored baby Brush Hog to where I thought the end of the tree would lie. I let the bait fall and I could feel the tungsten weight banging off the tree limbs. I knocked the bullet weight several times into the tree, and as I started to reel up I felt an unmistakable "thump". I set the hook, and after a short but determined battle, I boated the biggest fish of the day, just a few ounces heavier than the Pad Crasher fish. It was a good morning, perfect weather and we caught fish all day. I would have liked to stay longer but by the time the sun was high, we were hot, sunburned and tired, and the pleasure boaters had started to show themselves. Definitely a fan of this lake and I will be fishing it again soon.

  26. Well I haven't been on here in a while but have got to get a little lake time in the last couple of weekends. Last weekend I won a small club tourney with a little less than 13 lbs, ten boats fished it and only 4 teams weighed in and the bite was tough! Went out today with the wife and wore out some quality fish. I caught 6-7 fish over 5 pounds, my biggest five would have went 25-30lbs. With the lake dropping like a rock I would have figured the fished would have moved out but went with my gut and started shallow frogging and flipping! Caught a couple nice ones flipping but got on a solid frog bite by 8 am and wore em out!

  29. My first experience of the fishery and hopefully many more to come. I have to say what a great part of the Potomac Aquia Creek is, I didn't cover it all but the area that I did cover was amazing, I am not filing a full detailed report because I really didn't pay attention to water temps, I was there to take a veteran out for a day of fun and tried to focus on primarily that. Through the help of some amazing people on here who frequent this fishery it ended up being a truly great experience, I was only allowed two fish and the rest had to come from my warrior, we stated at 8:00 am, by 10:30, I had my two on a really high pressured area as well as weather wise. Aquia Creek was stained, I had been told that the grass was really productive by several but on this day it was null for me, where I did find success was on the wood in that area, particularly lay downs, I marked a lot of fish where the lay downs reached a drop off, i also marked some that were on tree stumps near those drop offs. My first was one that came close to the end of one of those lays on a 3/8 oz. spinner, one gold, one silver willow leaf with a chartuse and white skirt, I used a salt and pepper twin tail grub as a trailer and swam it just deep enough to pick up the reflection from the blades under the surface, either making contact with and or swimming it really close to the lay was productive, they didn't seem to move very far from where they were positioned. The second came off of a 1/2oz. Jig in pumpkin seed with a watermelon red trailer, pitched to boat dock pilings. The day couldn't go by without fishing the many pad fields you guys have at least once, I chose the bends in the upper creek for that, I used the spinner I had and fished the edges in accordance with the current provided by the tidal movement, my second cast to the bend and it got annihilated by a snakehead, what an absolute thrill that was to bring in, I have never had my line sound like it was being plucked like a guitar string, such a hammering strike and ensuing fight afterward, it completely destroyed my spinner bait but in the end was well worth it. I'll have pictures to post as they become available to me, according to my Berkley scale the snakehead went 10.2, I did not officially weigh it and the official bass was if I remember correctly 6.96, a truly great fishery you guys have for sure!!!

  30. this happened to me. Years ago I had a yellow and black heddon dying flutter (prop bait) It wasn't just a good lure, it was a great lure. The best in my tackle box. It got bit off by a big chain pickerel and so I immediately replaced it. Nope. not nearly the same catch rate. Over the years I have tweaked, bent, loosened, tightened, hung on car antenna, and bought about 6 different of the same bait. Nothing even comes close to the bass catching magic of that first one. No explaining it other than to say that it had a secret magic ju ju that comes along once in lifetime. I had my time

  31. There was a Facebook page awhile back that would actually pay you a small amount for your used plastics, but it must have failed because I haven't heard from it in over a year. Either way my dad and I still store our used plastics in a big collection until we find a good use for them. I don't throw my used plastics in the lake to dispose of them

  33. So I did pretty well with the whopper plopper last night and then again this evening... Throwing it towards weed edges seemed to be the most productive for me, all of my strikes came on a very slow retrieve, not at all what I was expecting. I was fishing it fairly fast at first with no luck, then decide to fish it much slower, just retrieving it fast enough to make the prop/tail spin and create noise/commontion. Caught probably 12 or so bass on it the past two nights in fairly limited time on the water (about 3 hours last night and 2 hours tonight). As everyone has already stated, smaller bass don't shy away from the 130 size at all... Caught numerous fish 1.5-2 lbs on it. The lunker came tonight, at 3.6 lbs.. Nice fish. Sadly, I underestimated how far I could truly sling this 1.5oz bait, it wound up in a tree, and 17lb CXX wouldn't dislodge it... Very impressed with this lines breaking strength and abrasion resistant qualities, nothing that I could've done to the line while my bait was hung in the tree would broke the line... I got as close as I could to the snag and cut it. Too bad it was a 17$ bait, but at least I know it works now.. I'll likely order a few more off of *** very soon ;).

Ordered some Ned rig tackle to replace my small box of stuff I lost the other day, and picked up some stuff at a couple tackle stores the wife let me visit today. 39. Well I look at it this way I can buy a 1500 yard spool of Bass Pro Shops Excel mono in 14 pound test for $11.00. I used to use that line to fish with before I began using Berkley Original FireLine as my go to line on all of my spinning reels.. Now I use that spool for backing on all of my reels, never mind if it is a spinning or baitcasting reel. It also makes good leader material when fishing braid. I am convinced that I make my own luck by proper preparation. So I use good quality line across the board. I agree most times, while bass fishing, you will not have a fish pull that much line out. However I fish in lots of different waters. I live and fish on the Chesapeake Bay so when I fish for bass I can encounter stripers, bass, perch, pickerel, big cats and even snakeheads. All spring and summer the big stripers live in the main bay and the equipment to catch them includes big boats, planer boards trolling parachute rigs etc. During the fall they come into the creeks that have warmer shallower water and I chase them with my bass boat.. Here rattle traps mimic the food they are following. Along with them are some huge cats. So far my biggest blue cat was 18 pounds and yes he nearly spooled me as he hit the bait and ran under our boat. My partner had to run up and pull the trolling motor up for me. During a bass fishing trip, on Dale Hollow Lake in Kentucky, this spring we were fishing Z Man Ned rigs on G Loomis 6 foot ML rods with 6 pound leaders. My wife hooked a cat in 18 feet of water, it again almost spooled her and I got to laugh as that fish ran her from the front to the back of the boat several times. We had to work the fish very carefully as I knew what bit her lure. Since we had such a light leader and a really light action rod it was no easy fight. The fish emptied over half of her spool more than once. So I did not want her to break a $300 plus rod or lose the fish. She fought it perfectly. We even saved the TRD Ned rig. That fish weighed 6 8 pounds. Also when I change my line on a reel I almost never respool the backing so I want something good on there. Some of my reels have 10 year old backing on them Here is the pic of the cat and one of the bass we were chasing out there, most of the bass we caught were over 5 pounds

Doesn't matter much if you know where he lives. Gather your evidence. Present it in writing to your local police force detective, to your lawyer, and the game warden's boss. If you only "suspect" without proof, then don't bother, especially if it was a combo available at WalMart etc. You need to present details. Josh
