  2. Personal preference! I'm right handed & use righted reels! I switch hands while my lure is in the air!

  3. I am right handed and all my reels have the handle on the right side, I dare anybody to prove me I'm "wrong".

  4. Ive been using mono for everything for 40+ years. I keep trying braid on a spinner here and there but only to avoid line twist issues. Avoid worm hooks that are thick gauge or are marked superline hooks. Thin hooks penetrate easier and will compensate some for the stretch of the mono.

  6. The short truth is nothing beats time on the water. But, if you can spend time on the water with someone who is already an above average angler you will learn more in a single outing than you will in a dozen by yourself. Even on the slow days there are plenty of things to be learned.

  7. First was to understand what structure is, how to truly identify it, interpret it, & the fish it effectively. Attended a 5 day seminar under Elwood "Buck" Perry & then studied everything he & others wrote on this subject. Second was to understand the predominate prey species were in my bodies of water & how those species relate to structure morning, noon, & night...with each passing season. Third was to understand that next after location was timing; just because I didn't get bite does not mean the bass aren't there or I had the wrong lure tied on. Fourth was when I stared to understand that the answers to my "catching" dilemmas were not the tackle but me. Bass anglers are a gullible crowd if you appeal to their belief "it's the tackle not the angler"! Fifth: The human tendency is to respond to failure & frustration by over complication rather than simplification of technique & theory. K.I.S.S.!

  8. Versatility..............I have limited room in my boat. I don't need/want 15-20 rods for each and every technique. 4 casting rods, and 2 spinning rods cover 90% of what I do most of the time.

  12. WELCOME aboard! The ML action is very versatile. You can use it for float fishing, Senko fishing, crappie & perch....just about anything. What species are you targeting and what kind of water are you fishing? That would make a suggestion about it's specific use and what kind of presentation might work best for you a little easier.

  13. You guys can do what you want, I get it. But you all are saying over & over its safer than Cigarettes or compared to Cigarettes. That's not exactly the standard by which I would want to compare to. Surely, you read the individual who posted saying his addiction to vaping was much more intense than his addiction to cigarettes was. I'm not judging you guys either, but I'm not seeing the logic here.. This poison is less toxic than another poison logic.. Remember your betting, & trusting that what your being told about vaping is true. This was exactly the same method used by big tobacco 60 years ago..

  15. Seen many ways to do this, PVC piping, milk crates, etc. Interested in what people use, however simple/elaborate, commercial or diy, whatever. Mine below so far. It hooks to the canoe gunwales like the yoke but can slide around. It holds a FF and a cellphone w/navionics for navigation. To attach lures and tools I used a magnetic kitchen knife bar and a cork mat. I sorta went overboard but this is what happens when you're stuck inside and can't fish all winter. I wanted the FF and cellphone below the walls to stay out of the wind and sun. But it can also flip over and change the brackets so the FF/cell are on top. One thing I still have to figure out is wiring the transducer. Want the wires fixed to the boat so it is plug and go but the transducer is wired permanently on my trolling motor.

  16. Been kinda lazy all winter. Now I have to go into full production mode to play catch-up! Starting off with a couple simple spinning builds. I have 2 Sage Ones in the queue. They will be a little more complicated than these. Rainshadow SB720-4 (4pc lite) RodGeeks B468MMF

  17. For me it was a hot day in August, I was taking off a torn up senko and went to replace it and my over filled tackle bag spilled all over the ground. I picked up all my stuff, but while I was doing it I saw an old weird colored senko covered in dirt that someones must have left there and let sit there for months. I don't know why but I threw it on wacky and it got crushed on the way down. It kind of struck me that there is a randomness to fishing that you can't always anticipate.

  18. I had pretty good luck on Amazon. I bought two revo stx gen 3 for $147.25 minus $20 Abu mail in visa rebate for 127.25 a piece. I also bought a Veritas 2.0 for 79.00 and they accidentally sent me two in the box and told me to keep the second one!!!

  19. 100% personal preference. I grew up using spinning reels, with the crank on the LH side, and holding the rod in my right hand. When I bought my first bait caster 25 or so years ago, I didn't pay any attention to what side the handle was on and bought a RH reel. I disliked it very much...............ever since then I have only bought LH casting reels. I have tried many times over the years to re-train myself to use a RH reel by using/ borrowing reels that are RH from buddies, but it just feels odd to me, and since there are plenty of LH reels, I won't be trying RH again anytime soon. I am right handed, do everything right handed, and the weird sensation to me was not turning the reel handle with my right hand, but holding the rod in my left hand.

  20. I buy from G Loomis and St. Croix. Both have a great replacement program for accidental damage. ~$100 and a new rod is at my door in a couple day. Life is too short and leisure time is too limited to not fish with what I want.

  21. Full cork I have to have it in my hand with reel attached & lure tied on Do not give my rods names that way when I throw worms with my jig rod it does not get confused!

  23. I just got finished reading through this whole thread, as always great info Nev, appreciate it. Looks like we fish a lot of the same water. Just got back into fishing a couple of years ago so I'm still learning a ton. I plan on spending a good amount of time on the Nashua river trying to learn it. My girlfriend got me an inflatable boat last year, I built up a floor for it and picked up a trolling motor this fall, just need to go through the PITA process of tracking down the bill of sale so I can register it. As far as open water goes, I stopped by the Tinker Rd bridge the other day to learn how to use my new baitcaster. It's starting to open up nicely, warm temps next week should open up a lot of areas.

  25. Got to hit Rayburn today and found some nice fish. Probably caught 30+ fish. Got on a trap bite early in the AM and went flipping later in the day. Had one of the best days I've had in a while, best five would have went well over 20lbs.

  26. I just tend to be more careful and buy from companies like St. Croix that I know will back their products. If you're abusing your gear/not keeping it organized/boat flipping most of your fish, it's on you, man.

  27. The Merrimack river is running hard, The Nashua river not so bad. especially if you put in off of the Broad st ramp. The big orange safety balls and line are not across the river at the dam area yet so be careful at that end. The river is tough fishing, there is a lot of water there, very big area but a lot if it is just like the bottom of a clean bowl. smooth and dull with no structure. Round pond is completely ice free in Nashua as is Sandy pond. water is still wicked cold , keep your life jacket on. both have a lot of area you can fish from shore , both are easily accessible with a canoe or kayak. fish slow slow slow, and when you think you are fishing slow enough, slow down just a bit more. try some of everything and dont be afraid to give them a nice 8 inch worm meal or lobster sized rage craw. slow lightweight swim baits , really slow sinking jerkbaits , twitch ultra slow and let them sit. fish the bright sunlight areas and maybe youll find some sunning and warming. i really like white this time of yr. the new floating rattle trap in some of the less than 5 ft deep areas where the sun is bright on the water. as always just out of the water flow areas , inlets, outlets , points. probably no green growing yet but if you see some growing green ..... that means oxygen and sunlight. Nashua river behind Clocktower place, the side area of the building where the water is a few degrees warmer (need a boat/canoe.kayak to get there) as well as the buildings on both sides at the Main st bridge. Again you need a boat/canoe/kayak. there is some decent structure in the water just past and under the Main st bridge. (smallmouth not largemouth) also concerning the Bow power plant area............, I think there is a way to find out if they are pulling water . may be just a simple as a phone call. Shane ? anyone else? know.

  28. Asbestos was a great tool for insulating back in the day too.... how's that working for folks? Yall are nuts to jump on inhaling anything into your body when there is no medical research on it yet. The only thing you can say is 1) less nicotine...2) no second hand and 3) no cig smell. Yipppeeeee! I picture lawyer commercials within the next 5 years "if you or a loved one smoked ecigs within the last 5 years and your lungs melted please call bla bla bla... you may be entitled to a cash settlement" No thanks. Siebert Outdoors jig does it again - this time a 3/4 oz brush head in 00 modbug with a skinny dipper trailer. @Dypsis 9.07 on the digi- my biggest US bass ever! Same fish just 2 pics. Jeff

  31. For most peeps high winds, as in gail force means riding it out in the garage or workin the honey-do list. To me it means I have the place to myself and often good catchin. Today with high wind the first cast resulted in a 4+ lbr that just inialated an LC100. Coupla more cast to the area saw a few insincere taps. So I backed off ,down sized to a 78 LC to trick a 2=1/2 lbr and a few dinks.About an hr later another 4lb`r witch smacked the 100. Can`t describe in just a few words what that type hit does for me.Its like a micro masochistic event, which is what keep lots of us goingback .It was very cold and nasty ,but I went home warm inside. 32. Please don't quote me out of context. I'm saying it's a good way to quit smoking as in quitting altogether not just trading one habit for another. The same post you took that quote from which you then used to make me sound like some pro vaping/pro asbestos (????) moron said that I think vaping is bad for you. I'm not going to fight about it on a fishing forum but I don't like the way I come off in your post.

  33. I highly value my rods and I spend time in making the decision. Some people value their reels more. Not me. Primarily, I want sensitivity. Not all highly sensitive rods are the most expensive, but I must check out a rod first-hand before I'll buy one sight unseen. However, it's possible to buy top dollar rods sight unseen and get something usable. I've bought a couple such rods sight unseen. I don't break my rods. They're too valuable.

  34. That's one one of the reasons I advised against diy on this specific model. That o ring is part of the two piece shaft that holds the side plate. Squeezing that assembly together enough to replace the c clip is a bear. I can't begin to explain how to accomplish it.

  35. I didn't post this topic to bash anyone! I keep up with all my channels and was pointing out the competition on bass channels I'm subbed to one rod one reel and lake fork guy and Jon b and a heck of a lot of other bass fishing channels. These guys are very professional and know what there doing they make a decent living otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. I don't think that we should judge ppl for what they choose to do for a living, there is nothing better for a man to do than to find enjoyment in his hard work.

  36. Well perhaps if you went to a LARGER bait that would change ~ Stop feeding the juvenile fish and start offering the adults a solid meal. Go with the 7 Inch ~ color 021 Black & Blue is great in low visibility waters. https://store.baits.com/product.php?productid=10 A-Jay

  38. Being a infantrymen for 7.5 years I spent lots of time behind the M4/AR platform and some time infront of the AK platform as well as behind it. Both have their pros and cons. Personally I like the AR platform it's more consistently accurate and basic maintenance keeps them reliable with little effort. How ever a huge weakness for the AR/m4 plat form is skittles wrappers....... Long story but true story I'll give the short version that guy had skittles from MRE stuffed empty wrapper in mag pouch which then found its way into the star chamber with s round. AK will always work but you also run the risk of old ancient crappy corrosive ammo taking away the reliability of the AK. AK has the scary factor to it when it goes off you know exactly what is making that sound. I feel the range is pretty limited. Many say it is with the M4/ar also but I personally consistently can take my beat up M4 with an acog and hit a e type silhouette at 800m. Either one is good in a SHTF ww3 situation. Ammo is plentiful no mater what country you are in for the most part.

  41. I think vaping is a great tool to use when quitting smoking. The fact that you can actually step down the nicotine content over time to eventually wean yourself off it altogether is a huge advantage over other methods. I did the cold turkey route (17th times a charm!) but I know a few people who quit by vaping and it worked. The one thing I just don't understand in the non smoker who takes up vaping and doesn't go nicotine free. My son did this and I just don't get it, you have a way to "smoke" without the addiction and he chose to buy juice with nicotine. It took over a year but he now has himself weaned almost completely off the nicotine by stepping it down little by little. My wife quit smoking when I did and really missed the whole ritual of smoking (holding it in your hand, blowing smoke etc) so now she vapes too but with no nicotine. She enjoys it but isn't addicted so, while I would prefer she didn't do anything, it's better than smoking. I still worry that all of that moisture in your lungs can't be a good thing. I certainly don't have any hard stats but I have two sons in high school (neither of which vape to my knowledge) and they've told me that they estimate 70% of the kids in their school vape and only about 10-15% smoke cigarettes (way different than my day!).

  44. Before I "knew better", I fished with the handle on the right side of the reel (I'm right handed). I did fine for the most part. HOWEVER, now that I've switched, I will not go back. It's odd to me that very few of the right handed fishermen I know place the handle on their spinning reels on the right hand side but they habitually purchase bait casting reels this way-even though most reel makers now offer a "left-hand" version for most of their products. But...different strokes for different folks.

  45. Hi Chris, 2 things, 1st, this thread will most likely be moved to the other species thread, and 2. Peacocks don't live in your part of town, Gotfishyfingers said it best. The most Northern part of the state that peacocks reside is in Palm Beach and as far south as Florida City.

  46. You said it, personal preference! Whatever is most comfortable FOR YOU is the reel you should be using. I'm right-handed. I use a right-handed baitcaster but reel with my left-hand with a spinning reel. If I try to reel with the other hand in either case it looks and feels like I've never used a fishing rod before...

  47. It pretty much comes down to personal preference. Same as the difference in spinning reels. The only actual difference I can think of is speed in transitioning from cast to reeling.
