  1. Got a chance to go out to the same spot as last week! I "leapt" at it! Sorry for all the puns- just having fun on leap day!!! Siebert Outdoors jig does it again - this time a 3/4 oz brush head in 00 modbug with a skinny dipper trailer. @Dypsis 9.07 on the digi- my biggest US bass ever! Same fish just 2 pics. Jeff

  2. All done with pre surgery chemo. The tumor responded well to the chemo according to the most recent tests. Met with the surgeon last week & he has scheduled my surgery for March 7th. Will be in the hospital for 7-8 days then home to recuperate.

  4. Okay if we are gonna talk about bassin youtubers, let's talk about keepinitreel fishing. The dude does rediculously meticulous in depth reviews on lures. Which is awesome in my book. Kevin Bullington also has a lot of reviews out there on lures.

  5. Maybe I should start a channel. It would be a lot like Bill Dance's blooper reels, mixed with brief moments of high drama, a lot of swearing, and then hours of silence. Should be a hit.

  6. All things being equal, I think you'd appreciate having more power for your boat. And on top of that, I think the newer motors would do significantly better on battery consumption.

  7. Hang tough Bro.. you can do this thing. You got to suffer some though, no way around it. I'm telling you, you CAN do it.

  9. I think this would be one of those times I'd be blurring out the background of my pictures, just in case. Couple of great fish off the same area, and the scary thing is, neither was overly fat, so they could easily be DD's in a month. I know I'm jealous!

  10. He's another one I can't stand. Probably because he's so young. However, he does try to teach the best that he can and I appreciate what he does. He's one that seems to cater to the pre-teen aged fishermen.

  11. Also been adding to the crank and topwater game. I gotta say, I like the looks of these new Koppers squarebills. And some Shellcrackers (Thanks, D!) And some more mid-weight stuff for the new combo A couple heavier entrants into my arsenal. Still looking for a Roman Negotiator or Trick, 8" Lunker punker, and a Bullshooter 160 or 190, but I still got ice, so I still got time.

  12. Just completed the swimbait lineup, with a little help from my friends here at BR. A trade here. A couple nice flea market moves, and the under 4oz bait category is covered. 7'11" Okuma Guide Select, paired with a Shimano Calcutta 201B. They make a lovely couple, don't they? In a couple weeks, my dream rod from DVT will be done, and my 301 will have a home. MAN, it's gonna be a cool year!

  14. I was referring to the people who come into the store and complain. Complaining to a worker about prices is ridiculous. I don't have a problem with someone trying to save money. But don't run your mouth about someone's prices. Either buy or don't.

  15. I think you're talking about Ed Bassmaster, who has a few million subscribers now. That number is nearly impossible to achieve in today's competitive Youtube environment. btw - Ed got his start here on BassResource.com.

  16. Why is it that once good interesting you tube channels become crass parodies of themselves after they "make it"? Some of my favourite bass fishing you tube channels have gone from being good genuine guys without agendas to the usual crass back patting, sponsor whoring, wastes of space that many of the TV programs are. These guys now spend time unboxing, meeting up with fellow you tube "stars" and generally losing any credibility they'd accumulated over the years by banging on about this sponsor's product or that sponsor's gear. It's a shame is all. The good interesting content has been replaced by bland nothingness.

  17. Its will power vs the addiction. I literally made it a war in my mind. I smoked for 30+ years and once I made my mind up I was quitting I was not going to let the cigarettes win. Being a very competitive person I made it personal in every way I could in my mind. This way when the urge hit I had deep rooted reasons for denying the desire my body thought it had to have. As was said already 2 and a 1/2 weeks out you are doing excellent! the first weeks are the worst in breaking any addiction. I know its tough but it will get easier with time. I have been off cigarettes since 9:00pm Aug 13, 2014 and I rarely have a moment I even think about smoking. I can so clearly remember being a slave to those things. I cant imagine what a crutch the vaping thing would be like since there are so many parts to it. All I needed was a pack and a lighter to smoke. And I feel so much better. River Dave is 100% right you can do it and you'll be amazed at how much better life is on the other side. Heck the $ I was spending on smokes now pays for my truck I bought last November. And that is not exaggerating one bit. You can do this just have to set your mind that you wont except defeat. Your loved ones are worth it alone but all the other benefits are great as well.

  20. that's the best part! I "found" both those fish within 30 yards of one another, I just let Jeffro catch them!!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA He PROMISES he'll let me catch one next time!!!!! It is super fun to even watch a fish like that being caught as so few folks have held a true 9 pounder. we both said the same...no gut/no eggs......... but theses fish are HEATLHY, so the future is VERY promising at this little pond.

  21. @River Dave I've actually managed to get my boat in there, too. It was a busy day and I lost count of the death stares I was getting from the people on shore. Good times.

  22. Fished today and ended up with 14. All fish were caught flipping bushes. Fished 1215 .. Solons area. Headed south to try my luck tomorrow. All fish caught today were between 3 and 4 lbs and full of eggs...

  23. I bought a pile of these from TW and have really like them. I wish they made a lighter wire version, but I suspect they will work very well for stripers and blues this year as well. I also have a few of these, which work great for the smaller Fat Impacts. I get them from a local company, who's name I have forgotten. I guess I need to head to one of the stores that carries them and find out.

  25. I can't stand Mike aka. 1rod1reel. He's not very informative or knowledgeable at all. He's always over exaggerating everything and it gets on my nerves quickly. Add in his lisp and it makes his voice intolerable.

  27. Who's guilty? Are you the guy who needs 20 different brands of worms in 20 different colors? The guy with 50 shades of crankbaits for 50 shades of daylight? The guy who pitches jigs all day but changes jigs after every 3rd cast because the last one wasn't working? The guy who buys creature baits with 6 appendages and then proceeds to surgically remove 2 of those appendages, because that's what the fish wants? The guy who buys bullet weights in 1/2 oz and 8/16 oz because the fall rate is different? The guy who switches from a 7'0" rod to a 7'2" rod because having a rod that is 2" longer makes you feel less inadequate? The guy that colors his faded braided line with magic marker because black is less noticeable than "off" green in stained water? The guy who runs out and buys the bait that won the Classic? The guy who has a 5.8/1 gear ratio reel for spinner baits and a 5.9/1 for his cranks? AND are you the guy who beats the same banks and same docks weekend after weekend wondering why you don't catch fish? Or don't catch quality fish? The guy who is dumbfounded why some guys in your club consistently weighs in bigger bags than others? The guy who travels cross country to fish Guntersville or Okeechobee because the guys on TV catch really. really, really, big fish, and then wonders why he gets skunked? I'm willing to bet all of us were "that guy" to some degree or another. Many of us still are "that guy" to some degree or another. So, I ask the question: What changed you from being "that guy" to the bass fisherman that you are today? Age? Experience? Maturity? A specific event or incident that made you open your eyes? Knowledge of the species? A little bit of everything? I was some degree of "that guy" I've just simplified things. Simplified baits. Colors. Tactics. My thought process. I may believe that 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. I may believe a well placed bait trumps color or action. I may believe a bass has no self control over its instincts and that all animals are creatures of habit, including humans. Time to break those old habits and try something new.

  28. Fishing the home lake last Friday was a little tough, it was pretty breezy with the wind in our face and bright sunny around 3 in the afternoon. We were just poking around a bit and had caught a couple little guys earlier. I was using a pumpkin red flake 5" Senko and Ben had the same but in June-bug. I had a swirl on mine , but it didn't eat it, so Ben cast in the zone and it was "Fish On!". After a short fight with one above water headshake that had me praying, he was able to ease her ashore for her photo session and release with our many thanks. Ben was using a 7' star rod and Okuma RTX 25 spinner with 10lb power pro and a 12lb fluorocarbon leader. Ken P.S. Also started getting a fair amount of bites on smaller fish dead sticking them way out deep.

  29. Hello, I have been playing with Android a lot lately. Never did like typing on them. Google has a keyboard out that gives you the ability to write. I am composing this post, in fact, by writing on the screen with my stylus. I am impressed because my handwriting is terrible, but the app usually gets the word right! It'll read printing, too. Just an FYI. Josh

  30. Last year I couldn't get past the 6lb mark with a 6.3 being my biggest bass. 2016 started with a bang and getting a new PB on Jan 2. She weighed 7lbs 10oz. Not only did I finally break 7lbs I also caught 4 more fish bigger than my old PB in Jan alone. 3/4 oz black/blue sieberts dredge football jig with rage black/blue lobster this past Friday, feb 26, I ended up catching another PB of 8lbs 12oz. Caught on 1/2 sieberts dredge Arkie jig. Bama bug with yum craw chunk in green pumpkin purple flake. 2016 has been good to me so far, I hope I can keep the momentum going for big fish.

  37. My old jig supplier is no longer around. Ive been using one particular swimjig color for many years. I also use one particular brand of trailer in 2 different sizes. It’s a bass magnet on my home water. I sent Mike a jig and both size trailers so he could match the colot and make sure the hook gap would work with the trailers. He did a great job matching the jig down to the special weed guard request i made. Jig head and skirt came out great as well. Kudos to you Mike

  43. I fished Housen, 6mile and Mill Sat (2/27) from 6:30-6:00. Water temp. was 58-60 slightly stained in Housen and 6mile clear in Mill. Ten boated with a swing and a miss on just as many or more. All fish caught on TR creature baits from 2 to 12 FOW. Three fish caught between hay grass and bank and all were males. The better fish were 8-12 FOW.

  44. Ole Catt = Ole School! I don't walk around with my phone attached to my ear, heck most days I don't even carry a phone. I don't do selfies with every bass I catch; when I typed this on my computer I had to add "selfie" to the dictionary. My two favorite Calcuttas are 30 plus years old, don't see a reason to change, may upgrade bearings this year. I've got Stanley spinner baits that are several years old, hooks still sharp, changed skirts a couple times & they still catch fine. I've thrown the same cinnamon pepper neon junebug laminated ring worms for 25+ years. I'm a Texas Rig freak; straight shank hook, non-pegged weight, on Big Game. I still cast with one hand; overhead I still use a hand controlled trolling motor I still catch Hawgs on the same structure I fished 45 years ago. I still wear Wrangler boot cut jeans, Cowboys boots, & a ball cap with the bill facing forward!

  45. I get a lot of my stuff online, but I make a point to stop by my local tackle shop before any of the big chain stores (I have a gander, cabelas & 2 DSGs in town) when I want to get something in person, or want to browse. The guys at the local shop have way, way more knowledge about local waters, conditions, and gear (especially lures, reels and rods above the "budget" level) than the folks at the chain stores. They also sell some things by small local tackle-makers that I can't get anywhere else. I have zero problem paying a little more, as long as I'm getting that kind of service.

  46. Rage Tail baits have a patented ridge on the appendages. NO OTHER BRAND has exactly the same action. Additionally, Big O is VERY strict when it comes to packaging which he designed himself. EVERY Rage Tail comes to you PERFECT, exactly as it was designed. Big O demands a level of quality control that is unequaled.

  47. The ramp does end abruptly J Francho has been there a few times he might be able to explain better. I kayak so the ramp don't matter to me much and I have some private spots to launch up stream more by the mouth because I hunt " the flats" which if you head up from the launch to the second bridge all the land on the south side till you hit the next section of the oak is all called "the flats" it's all private land that I deer and coyote hunt but there's a boat launch on the guys land also I can use. Saves me from paddling a few miles up the lake to get to some of the prime spawning areas. That at lake also does yes get very very busy and crowded come sometime I usually like to hit it during the week to weed out some of the crazy. But for the most part people tend to stay between the two bridges so once you go past kenyonville bridge it's just fisherman. lots of docks and Lilly pads on the lake but also some DEEP rock cliffs and channels along the north side of the lake south side is all docks and some nice coves. And now I'm depressed and want to go fishing dang it
