  2. After doing my research, I was happy too hook you up with the blades that have worked best for me, including an almost 5lb smallie this spring, and also my PB walleye! May they do as well for you as they have for me! Here's wishing you many new PBs! Jeff

  3. During the "winter" there are certain conditions one must pay attention to if one wants to be productive. The first is stability as in stable weather; I don't care what the ambient ttemperature is as long as the weather has been stable for 2 or 3 days. In order to take full advantage of stable conditions it helps to have the abaility to pick & choose the days you can fish. The second is the bass itself; a bass's metabolism is finely tuned to its circulatory system temperature which is the same as the surrounding water temperature. In cold water their metabolism slows down, their brain slows down, so the bass slows down. In cold water a bass's instincts are less finely tuned, it has less appetite & it mostly stays suspended at or near the bottom. Winter time bass fishing Think Vertical Think Deep Think Bottom Think Slow Does that mean ya can't catch em shallow? No, see above statement about stability! Does that mean ya can't catch em fast moving lures? No, see Rat-L-Traps (lipless cranks)!

  5. I use Big Game and even when I'm launching spooks I don't have any problem setting hooks. Just crank into the fish when they hit and then lean into them when you feel the weight. Braid works fine too but then I'd be worried about ripping the hooks out during the fight.

  6. ....to Mend It. I guess I didn't believe everything I'd heard about it and didn't want to shell out the cash, but boy this stuff is awesome! I have a pile of Rage Baits that have gotten torn up that I was going to use as trailers, and I put Mend It on them tonight: almost good as new. Do yourself a favor and pick up some of this stuff, it'll save you a lot of money.

  9. I gave up cigarettes about 2 months ago and started smoking a pipe. I do enjoy pipes something relaxing about them. The doctor said they're bad but not nearly as toxic as cigarettes. I find I am smoking less additionally. 15 dollars of tobacco lasts me almost a month. Hopefully within the next couple of months I'll be off of all tobacco products.

  12. Something tells me if this was so easy and lucrative for big box retailers, it would have been done long ago. I'm speculating that amazon eats up the $99 fee and passes all the shipping costs down to the seller, forcing them to take a lower margin as part of doing business with amazon...kinda like what wal mart does to vendors.

  13. I still have yet to grab one but I have used them. My buddy claimed his were bad so I used it and it worked perfect, so I gave it back and watched him use it and that is when I noticed the problem. Most anglers having problems are using it wrong, they start out reeling too fast and it causes it to blow out, my buddy would go at a moderate pace and then he would speed up to get it to track off center but instead of slowing back down, he kept the faster pace going and it was long before it blew out to the side. That bait needed to be constantly changed from slow to fast and back to slow again, the lip makes it unstable at a high speed and that is what makes it behave like it does but then you have to allow it to get back to stable otherwise it will blow out.

  14. If you like Abu Garcia reels, get the Revo. If you like Shimano reels, get the Curado. If you like Lews reels, get the Speed Spool.

  15. Bass Resource member and friend Eric (SoFlaBassAddict) passed away yesterday from a heartattack. I had a couple of oppurtunities to not only fish with Eric, but talk Heat basketball throughout the years and I am thankful for the memories. I will never forget a trip Eric and I had fishing Lake Okeechobee's worm cove where I sprained my wrist setting up on a Hawg, we had a great fishing trip that day and landed some chunks. Rest in peace Eric and thanks for the memories!

  17. I haven't found a way they wouldn't catch fish so far. When I'm flipping weeds the only bait decision I have to make is what color Pit Boss I'm going to use.

  19. 5 for what? Deep, shallow, lippless, squarebill, wake? Give a bit more info on your needs or what you're looking to use them and it would be easier to give you 5 good ones. Right now I could include a 3XD and 5XD but you may not be fishing in water deeper then 5ft where you're looking to fish which then they wouldn't be the right crank for that. Just asking for more details and we can give you a better answer.

  21. I have Amazon Prime, by myself, and I probably break even on shipping, plus get a buck or two off on normal prices. I think I've only once ever taken advantage of any of the other freebies that go along with it (I watched the film, Dam Nation. If you haven't seen it, check it out!). But with fishing tackle, I have no problem meeting my favorite on-line retailers' minimum order to get free shipping. I'm happy with the way it works and would not be happy to have to pay for "free shipping." I stock up on what I need in the off-season and rarely need a small quantity of anything. If I do, I can usually find it a a local chain store, or get it from an eBay seller at a good price with shipping included. Tight lines, Bob

  22. The boat is just the platform. You can take a $2000 boat, add $6000 in electronics and upgrades and have a fishing machine for $8000 instead of $50,000. Just might not go as fast or be as pretty. Great thing about electronics, you can take them off the boat when you get another one, or sell them later. My thought is how much do I want the ability to use the electonics to locate and find what I'm looking for and how often opposed to how much I spend on it. And I would add two units that you can link together with a minimum of a 7" display on both.

  23. Nice boat. May I suggest you skip the V2 and get the Terrova. I promise you will hate the foot control on the V2. If you do want the V2, you will be better off with the Ipilot hand control. I've owned both and would never own or recommend the basic V2 to anyone.

  24. Was fishing with my grandpa late in the summer, throwing squarebills. Found a bunch of bass that had pushed a ton of bluegill into the back of a cove. Started catching a bass every cast. Hooked into a nice one, and he wrapped me around a dock post, and broke my line. Tied on a new crank and kept fishing. About 5 minutes later, I heard a splash right next to the side of the boat. I see the crank I lost floating right next to me, and the bass swimming away. The bass had come to the surface and spit the crankbait out right next to me. My grandpa and I laughed for a solid 10 minutes, we couldn't believe it. Definitely my most memorable fishing moment.

  25. I'm asking for gift cards but unfortunately my wife's side of the family has an aversion to gift cards (it's a lazy gift apparently?) Hopefully it won't be another year of polo shirts I'll never wear, I'd prefer they just save their money.

  26. I guess I'd have to look for a used one. And you guys know that if I DID get that reel, it would lead to a direct comparison to my Daiwa PX Type R; undisputed king of the finesse reels? Tight lines, Bob

  27. I have tried 3, and 4, and always find myself just going back to two. That's my comfort zone, if I go the multiple-rod route. There's something pretty satisfying about limiting yourself to one rod, though.

  28. Had something similar happen to me like that. I hooked a decent bass and it broke my line near a dropoff. A couple days later I went to the same spot with a different lure and caught the same exact bass with my other lure hanging from its mouth.I was shocked that this bass would hit so soon and I took both lures off and released it.

  32. I have many different brands of reels. I'd probably call myself a Daiwa fan, though I like my Shimano too. The Daiwa and Shimano reels I use are mostly the OLDEST reels in my lot. That should speak volumes.

  33. I'd like to congratulate you just for catching a bass at Smithville. I've fished it twice and never had anything I'm 100% certain was a bite. I've heard it's gotten much better since I fished it last though. Great looking fish!

  34. Got a last second invite to hit Lake Erie with a buddy yesterday. Actually had to string up a couple rods before I rushed out the door, everything was already stripped down for the winter. He has been doing quite well the last few weeks with multiple 100+ fish days and even catching 88 on Saturday..............then I get in the boat with him. lol We only caught 19 yesterday. I did squat for size, but my buddy got a nice 6.1 and several in the 4's. No complaints from me though! Surface temp is still a balmy 47.5º, which isn't necessarily a good thing for us WNY'ers heading into winter.

  35. So, I'll be the first to open up their fishmas package - forever being known as Mr. Impatient. Felix77 did a great job! I am really impressed with his research, and selection! Of course some worms. Excellent choices for some beaver/creature baits. Some finesse tubes, and my dearly beloved GYCB Flappin Hogs! This box full of jigs, terminal tackle, Livingston Lures (super excited about these!) lipless crankbaits, reel grips, hair jigs, and a spinnerbait! Last, but not least. A River2Sea spittin wa frog, rod wraps, and a Livingston Lures hat to cover my bald head when fishing! Thank you again! I hope you enjoy your fishmas package as much as I enjoy mine! Merry Christmas to you and your family, Felix! Oh, and I am rooting for the Dolphins to win tonight so you can open yours!

  37. I was Carolina rigging one of those old Manns worms with the exposed hooks . I set the hook and reeled in a crappie . It wasnt hooked . The line went around the fish and the hook caught the line and pulled tight .

  38. Haha I hear ya! I try to put that stuff away for a little bit. Not because I don't want to monkey with fishing stuff, but if I do it makes me want to fish that much more! Knowing that I can't for quite some time is already almost too much to bear but you add that on top of it and I'll actually go insane haha.

  39. I know this is a bass forum, but I was still excited to land my first Potomac River walleye today. I've been fishing the Potomac since October of last year and figured I would have lucked into one at some point ... and finally did! Haven't caught a walleye in 20+ years since when I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Pat

  44. I love my lcp custom. I've settled on fiotcchi xtp and havnt had a single malf in 150 rounds. I néed to get to the range more often but it's definitely more controllable than what people make it out to be. I am a small framed guy at 5'8 on a good day and can get 2 fingers on the grip with the pinky extension. The Hogue grip makes it comfortable to shoot even one handed. The tall rear sights allow me to rack the slide on my belt if I had to. I did have to cut a notch out of the holster to make drawing smoother though. No biggie. It rides in my front right pocket in a DeSantis holster and the spare mag in a remora single mag holster I got as a freebie from a previous purchase. Very convenient system that I carry everywhere. Previously I edc'd a shield 9 iwb but this makes it feel like a brick. While I still love and carry the shield from time to time, I kind of have to be conscious on what shirt I wear. I doubt people would notice it printing, but I can tell especially when the wind is blowing. I can post pics if anyone is interested. Good luck with your choice!

  45. Jeff gives very very good advise, practice with what you will be carrying. Even if you practice with cheaper ammo keep proficient with the higher end self defense rounds. If you didn't shoot it, don't carry it.

  46. I fish mine on a 6' 8" m/f spinning rod with a 30 size President and 8lb C21. I have one that's over 10 years old and has caught well over 100 fish, has gone through a few set of hooks but is still going strong.
