  1. Spools for mitchell spinning reels.

  2. It's my belief that bass hold a "town meeting" every morning at around 3:30 to decide where they are going to be and what baits they are going to bite (if any). There can be no other explanation.

  3. Go with trailer tires. No, I'm not trying to be funny. Some folks try to use light truck tires or even car tires. Not a good idea. I could write a paragraph why, but it's obvious a light truck tire is for...light trucks; and a trailer tire is for....trailers. If a tire isn't designed for the job, don't use it.

  5. Being a fan of egg nog i decided that this year i was going to try to make my own. Since i am a fan of Alton Brown and his scientific approach to cooking, I went with his aged egg nog recipe. Unfortunately you are supposed to let it "mellow" for at least two weeks before partaking I just hope it is worth it..... Ingredients-- End result

  9. I had to jump on the Wolf Creek train. The forecasted all-weekend rain forced me to take the day off and get out. I was the second boat in this morning at 7:45. When I got to the outlet, I had it all to myself. First five minutes I hook up with a big brown fish a Wobbler. Not long after, I switched to a tube and got bit on my first cast. This one broke 3#. When I got to the buoys I switched again to a beaver on a C&C swing head and found a big LMB counting rocks deep, 3 lbs. 4. oz. I turned around and saw Clayton coming around the point at the outlet. I switched over to the mud and started in a pocket that I've always caught fish on. First pass in that pocket and I hooked up with another good LMB on a Wobbler again. This was all within the first hour. From there I bounced around and made a run down the riprap on the south end. To Cole's point, yeah...it was SUPER clear. Like, 10' vis clear. Fished a few different areas and picked up random Smallies here and there on a squarebill, just covering water (granted I didn't have a choice with the wind). No jerkbait bite on the cool water side, I was sad So all in all, Wobbler, tube, Ned, swinghead, squarebill. The wind sucked and I wasn't getting bit anymore so I bailed around 1:30. I probably ended up with close to 15 fish, but the quality was awesome. My best five almost touched 14 lbs. between three Smallies and two LMBs. Should have a GoPro video up tomorrow.

  11. I found a pretty neat way to get a sorta chrome look for your lures and Thought I'd share. Heres a couple I did today. If you want to try this out yourself all you need is a gum wrapper like the one in the first picture. Now for the tough part; you gotta peel the foil off of the paper, the bigger the piece you can get off the better. I usually start at the corner by scratching a bit of the foil off just so I have a place to start peeling from. Then I just start sticking it on the lure until it's fully covered. Once its completely covered, to get the chrome look, I used the handle of my exacto to rub the foil smooth and then used a microfiber rag to polish it up... And thats it! Ive already painted and clearcoated over the foil and it seems pretty solid so far, but I guess time will tell if it'll hold up to some abuse lol. Anyway, merry Christmas everyone!

  14. That's definitely a benefit to using a crankbait rod. When I'm not using a crankbait rod and my bait has treble hooks, I always back my drag way off. I've caught a lot of fish that I shouldn't by doing just that. Many times it's been a northern pike that's severely frayed my line. When you get them in the boat and unhooked, you put a amount of tension on the line and it snaps it reminds you why you do that too.

  15. Sapphire blue is a killer jig color in stained water or at night. I fish that color a lot with plastics and my homemade bladed jigs too. It's a big fish color too it seems like, maybe because nobody fishes it.

  17. So you don't wear any store bought clothes with a brand name? TW is just one of those companies that has earned such an amazing reputation that you would be hard pressed to find a single person that would ever mock somebody for wearing their clothing.

  20. It seems like whenever winter shows up late, it ends up staying late too. Last time I can remember having open water into January, it also snowed in May. I'd much rather have the cold weather when it's supposed to be cold instead of when I'm suppose to be catching topwater fish.

  23. Being a native Californian for over 70 years I can tell you droughts come and go, the lakes rise and fall, the bass populations go from boom to bust, in cycles. We are in a 4 year drought that is about to end. The lakes will rise covering brush and plants that has grown during the low water levels creating good recruitment of the years spawn, the cycles of good bass fishing restart....only to repeat another drought cycle. Enjoy your time on the water it will get better and may have another down turn. Bass survive by being adaptive, to catch them you need to adapt to the current conditions. What are the bass eating and where are they located, same question regardless of the water levels. It's easier to determine where bass are located with reduced water areas to fish. Low water level means few places with cover, more places with structure...fish the isolated structure areas wherever there is prey. Tom

  24. Definitely an inducer motor. Get the numbers and get it from hvacpartsoutlet.com I managed 75 rental houses all with similar models. Easy install yourself if you are handy. Parts range from $125-$300 depending on model.

  25. Don't bother trying to match as closely as you can what the bass are eating, bubblegum is a great color and there ain't no bubblegum colored fish.

  39. They just came out with their new gen of spinning Revo's this year. Looking at their releases the last few years, they redesigned their lower end reels, then their spinning, I would guess that gen 4's will be available beginning in 2017. We should be getting looks at it at 2016 Icast. That would be my guess anyway.

  40. You can order the shirt and pick out the logos you want on it. My club looked into getting club shirts and the costs can be under or over $100 depending on the material, style and number of logos you want. I was going to try to get a bail bond company and funny company logos (professional sex counseling, electrolysis, cosmetic surgery, "stuffed with love taxidermy", Shecky the Clown, Dr. Long Fingers Proctology, Bike jockstraps, Hermie's House of Hair) but I could not find them available. So check out fishing shirts and find the companies that have the logos you want to be put on the shirt. Good luck and be sure to post some pics of what you get. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  41. Hey all, Im from Iowa and planning a early spring trip down south to Bass fish. If im willing up to drive 12 hours i can get from Lake Fork to Lake Chickamauga and anywhere inbetween. We've fished Lake Kentucky that past 2 years and loved it. Looking for any advice on where we should head next. If someone wants to advise where, dont forget the "when" . We were told to hit Kentucky Lake in early to mid april and we had a really good time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advanced

  44. I remember reading an article years ago about lure shape research they did at the Berkeley lab. The description of the bait they discovered the bass were most likely to hit was a non-descript stumpy cylindrical shape they made by taking the pincers off one of their craw baits. They decided that they would never sell any baits made to that shape though as it wouldn't sell to anglers who wanted to see some realism and action in their baits. Kind of sounds familiar doesn't it? Who was it who didn't sign the Beatles? LOL
